[mythtv-users] Lirc and sound not working after upgrade

2005-08-07 Thread mogens lunde
Approximately every week I do an apt-get update and apt-get
dist-upgrade. After the last of these mythtv could no longer access the
backend server. I found out that the upgrade had changed my directories
from /var/lib/mythtv to /mnt/store, and that I had to alter permissions
in /var/lib/mythtv. After changing back I could restart mythbackend, and
access my stored recordings.

But no sound, and remote not working either :-(
In the mythfrontend log I have these errors:
mythtv: could not connect to socket
mythtv: Connection refused
lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages.

So I guess that this might be caused by the ugrade having changed some
other permissions, but I simply do not know where to look and what for.

Basically I do not understand for what reasons an upgrade can alter
permissions on already existing files and folders. But I guess there is
some kind of good explanation.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [mythtv-users] PVR-350 and playing DVD's

2005-06-04 Thread mogens lunde

I did a dd if=/dev/video0 of=/dev/video16 bs=64k count=50
Also a ctrl+c, but this didn't seem neccesary as the comand ended itself
after a few seconds with this output:

1+49 records in
1+49 records out
and a very short audio output through my TV's speakers.

But still no xv ("Your x server doesn't supportYV12 overlays" (repeated
twice), "Your x server doesn't have any XVideo support" :(

My recording profiles for Default, Live, High and low quality are all
set to 720 x 480.

How can I make sure that I have the correct ivtvdev driver installed?

Thanks

John, as suggested by Patrick, I downloaded your patch and
copyed it into /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/ (saved a
backup of the old file first) Does not make any difference
thoug, and I still get these error messages from xine-check:

Is there a better way to get this driver (via yum or apt)?

Thanks Patrick. I can see from the thread that these guys

seems to be

using ivtv-0.3.5e + Johns patch. From my log I can see that my
ivtv-version is 0.2.0 (rc3j) which I assume is the latest stable
version. So does this mean that I have to moove into

"bleeding" to get

ivtv-0.3.5e and to - maybe - make x work properly?

As a newbie I don't even know how to apply Johns patch, and

also not

whether it would work for me on a PAL system.

Strange to me that PVR-350 is such a commonly used tuner if it has
such large deficiencies with x.

 I tried a "#echo $KVER" with this result "2.6.11-1.27_FC3". So $KVER

Trying the above apt-get install ivtv-kmdl-`uname -r` worked for some

Now I tried to reinstall FC3 + Mythtv from scratch again. Same

Hi,

I have some problem with mythfilldatabase. If I run it from the command
line just as is, there is no problem. Data is fetched and has always been

in the backend log:

Seems as mythfilldatabase doesn't get what it expects from
tv_grab_se_swedb
due to that it cannot find it's config file. But it really should. As I
said,
running from command line works just fine. And I do that as root, which
Myth back/frontend also runs as. On the same machine. I have a
/root/.xmltv/cache dir and a cache.conf file pointing to the cache dir.

Doing a ps -ef to find out whatever command was issued to get the channel
data I found this:

/usr/bin/perl -w /usr/bin/tv_grab_se_swedb --days 1 --offset 1
--config-file /var/run/mythtv/.mythtv/Analogue TV.xmltv --output
/tmp/mythWnESon

What's up with /var/run/mythtv/.mythtv/? I have no xmltv config files
there, should I? As stated before, a plain "mythfilldatabase" from command
line is successful. Copying my Analogue TV.xmltv there (for testing
purposes) wont help either.

I don't get it. What's wrong?

Try to run as root. I couldn't make it work either as user mythtv.

Could you explain that further? Did you use

  apt-get install ivtv-kmdl-`uname -r` ivtv

after having upgraded your kernel to the latest errata available from
RH (and booted into it)?

I really have followed Jarods description exactly (copy/paste
instructions), but basically not much could be done wrong from
installing the four CD's untill starting the apt-get update etc. I did
of course also the last time install the latest kernel, but when trying
this:

# apt-get install ivtv-firmware
# apt-get install ivtv-kmdl-$KVER
# apt-get install ivtv

each package returned this error: Couldn't find package xx
(Did of course define $KVER properly)

This really should not happen, and I swear I have not deviated one mm
from Jarods description. Anyway installation succeeded with yum, but now
I get static/snow from the tuner after a reboot (worked before the reboot)

When I hopefully get this to work again I obviously need a backup
program, so that I can go back to a working mythtv. I have now two times
experienced that a simple apt-get dist-upgrade destroyed my working
tuner output.

I will now atempt my 7th reinstall of FC3 + Mythtv, and hope for success
this time ;-) The last times I have not had luck with apt, as some of
the program for example ivtv were not available using apt-get install.
So till now I have used a mix of apt and yum. Probably this could
explain my problems.

I can see that Jarod Wilson is now recomending to use yum. What is not
clear to me howver, is whether I wold still have to get Axel Thimm's
ATrpms-kickstart, or I should just proceed with "yum upgrade" after

This happended just after I installed xine ("yum install xine") and
xine-skins ("yum install xine-skins").

I simply do not understand how this have been able to affect the TV-out,
as I have not made any changes in the modprobe.conf. I hope someone
could give me a clue where to look, as my only alternative is to format
the harddisk and start all over from scratch :-((

[mythtv-users] Reinstall ivtv

2005-03-29 Thread Mogens Lunde
After an upgrade of ivtv (ivtv-0.2.0-66)and ivtv-kmdl
(ivtv-kmdl-2.6.10-1.770_14) Sunday morning, I can no longer use my PVR-350
(pictures flicker and frames are rolling right to left). I would appreciate
advise on how to reinstall the ivtv drivers. Will this procedure work:

# apt-get remove ivtv-firmware
# apt-get remove ivtv-kmdl-$KVER
# apt-get remove ivtv

# apt-get install ivtv-firmware
# apt-get install ivtv-kmdl-$KVER
# apt-get install ivtv

Or any other suggestions on how to solve this problem?

I have observed that the above installed ivtv-kmdl is i686.rpm. Doesn't this
mean that it is for an i686 processor (I have a Pentium 4)??

If so, how do I remedy this error?

Thanks for any help.

Doesn't this mean that this is for another processor than mine (I have a
Pentium 4)???

If so, how do I downgrade to the i386 version?

Can I anywhere see which upgrades were actually performed this morning
(logfile or something)? I have searched for this but still I can only find a
file with actual packages installed - not changes to packages.

If yes, will it be safe to downgrade to the earlier package?

[mythtv-users] Blurry pictures after ivtv upgrade

2005-03-27 Thread Mogens Lunde
I ran an apt-get upgrade and apt-get dist-upgrade this morning (included an
upgrade of ivtv). After this all channels are extremely blurry with frames
slowly rolling from right to left. I can see that the channels displayed are
the correct ones, but the picture is very distorted.

I have not yet been able to succeed using my PVR-350's output in
Mythfrontend, so I have not flagged this option. But yesterday pictures and
sound was just fine.

This are the current installed versions from /var/log/rpmpkgs:
ivtv-0.2.0-65_rc3g.rhfc3.at.i386.rpm
ivtvdev-0.8-1.rhfc3.at.i386.rpm

ivtv-kmdl-2.6.10-1.770_14.rhfc3.at-0.2.0-65_rc3g.rhfc3.at.i686.rpm

What can I do to go back? Will I need to downgrade, and how should I do
this.

Then you haven't looked hard enough. There are several messages in the
list archives. Plus every single link that google displays when I
search on that message is related to mythtv. Basically, don't worry
about the Realtime priority message. It is only there to tell you what
you would need to do if you wanted to run realtime priority. That
message isn't the cause of your problem.

What is the "phenomenon"? Perhaps if you told us what was wrong
someone could help.

Thanks, and sorry for being imprecise. I think I have found the error this
morning, as unchecking "Use the PVR350's TV-out" solved the problem. A
little strange as I did complete Jarods manual completely and verified that
I could run X on the PVR-350 output. Something must have messed this up
afterwards.

Anyway, thanks for your help and concern!

SV: [mythtv-users] Testing TV-Out connection [SOLVED]

2005-03-22 Thread Mogens Lunde

Thanks Carsten. I have now tried all combinations of ivtvctl -p 0 to 9, each
followed by "# /sbin/rmmod saa7127" and "# /sbin/modprobe saa7127
test_image=1". No signal whatsoever.

To be sure: I expect the signal to be displayed on the TV's EXT1 CVBS or EXT
Y/C?? I have of course configured the S-Video port in the setup menu on my
Philips TV.

Any ideas on where to look?

Cheers
Mogens

Success!! I first used S-video > S-video, but when changing to Scart the
test picture appeared. Funny that S-video didn't work, but never mind, I'm
happy again :-))

Yes, you should be able to see 8 colored stripes on your TV, if you
connect e.g. the many pin roundish connector on the PVR-350 with the
SCART input of your TV (other connections are also possible, e.g. using
SVHS).

Try setting the output with ivtvctl (option -p if I recall correctly)
and then it should work.

Just for my understanding, is the test Jarod suggests:

intended to use the S-Video TV-Out from the PVR350, or should the TV be

[mythtv-users] Channel setup Denmark

2005-03-21 Thread Mogens Lunde
Setting up EPG and channels using tv2.dk worked like a charm. But all
frequency id's are blank "", and when trying to record or watch live TV I
just see flickering snow on a white screen.

I have tried various methods to update channel frequencies:
- Used the channel No, eg. K40
- Used the frequency ID given by TDC-kabel, eg. 623.25
- Used the frequency multiplied by 16, eg. 9971

Nothing works :-((

Anyone who could tell how to setup channels?

[mythtv-users] Modprobe.conf not executing??

2005-03-21 Thread Mogens Lunde
I have the problem that after a boot, the video device /dev/video0 does not
exist. I then restart ivtv manually: "# /sbin/modprobe ivtv", and then the
video device is installed and can be seen with "# ll /dev/video?"

Shouldn't ivtv start automatically based on my settings in modprobe.conf
(see below in email)?

Furthermore, at this moment I can only see a black screen with snow when
recording and seeing Live-TV. This could - I guess - also be explained by
the missing execution of modprobe.conf ?

Finally, I have made some test recordings without ivtv being started. These
recordings appear as titles in the recordings list, but cannot be deleted.
How can I delete these? Mythfrontend seem to be confused and writes a lot of
error lines in the terminal window when trying to locate non-existing files
(there is nothing in /video/recordings).

Thanks
Mogens
