I can confirm that
   Option "RenderAccel" "false"

in my X config fixes the freeze for me. I did not try the two patches
from the nvnews.net forum.

I just noticed that Nvidia has posted two patches to the 7167 driver here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=ded648dc62c0c4fcb63c3126a93873c6&t=47405

* NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-7167-1233959.diff.txt
This patch fixes 2D/3D performance problems when using the Linux
AGP driver, AGPGART; the built-in NVIDIA AGP driver, NvAGP, is not
affected by this problem.

* NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-7167-1237815.diff.txt
This patch fixes a compile time error when building against
Linux 2.6.11-bk3 or later, configured without support for AGPGART
(i.e. CONFIG_AGP unset).

Me three, on two different machines and three different cards. 7167 seems
stillborn... :-(

II'm having a simlar issue my Shuttle X PC with an nforce 2
motherboard and the Nvidia 7167 driver under FC1.

For me, 6111 works, 6629 never worked right. 7167 almost works.

With 7167, I can load fvwm, and run mythtvsetup, but when I start
mythfrontend, it hangs and I can't even out of
it.

I'm going to just be happy using the 6111 nvidia driver and stop
fiddling with it.

[mythtv-users] Anybody having X lockup problems with MX440 on 7167 nvidia drivers?

2005-03-15 Thread John Freer
Hey All:

Just curious if anybody is having weird lockup problems with MX440
hardware with the 7167 driver.

The 6629 driver never worked with my MX440 (nforce2 MB), and now the
7167 "kind of" works.

KDE hangs on load up. It hangs hard where it says "starting
interprocess communication". If I then remote login through ssh, you
can see that X is pegged at 99% processor usage.

GNOME boots up fine and seems OK, and mythtvsetup runs OK, but when
mythfrontend starts, X pegs at 99% processor usage and myth is locked
up.

I'm at the point where I just ordered an FX5200 from Newegg.
Hopefully that'll solve the problem.

Wondering if anyone else had similar problems.

Thanks,
John.
