All recordings in MythTV must be in the recordings directory.
Therefore, if you want to keep it elsewhere, you'll need to create a
link in your recordings directory. The easiest way to do this is to
give the link the same name as the original file and rename the file in
the other location to something more easily recognized.

Note, also, that if you do any commercial cutting or transcoding, you'll
need to rebuild the seektable with

mythcommflag --rebuild -f

Copy it, let the external video manager handle it.

Just use VLC or MPlayerOSX. VLC has no problem with it, even in the
NUV container. It also plays the RTJPEG stuff. You can also use it to
export the video into an MPEG container, be it PS, TS, or whatever.
Piece of cake. Take it to someone who uses OS X and has a MythBox.
VLC and MPlayerOSX should handle the jobs without a problem.

Rename it from .nuv to .mpg and then play it with 'mplayer'.  The .nuv files are just MPEG2 transport stream files. Not necessarily.  They could be RTJPEG or MPEG-4.  Carl Fongheiser

could easily play on a Mac OS X laptop?  (MPEG2, MPEG4, DivX, etc?)This depends on how you recorded the show.  If you're using a hardware encoder, like one of the Hauppauge PVR cards, it's already in MPEG-2 format.  Otherwise, you'll want to use nuvexport to convert to one of the standard formats.  MythVideo can handle any of those just fine, too.
nuvexport can also create an SQL file that you can use to reimport a .nuv file, which will put it back into the recorded programs list.  Not exactly MythVideo, but it might meet your needs.Carl Fongheiser

[mythtv-users] Archiving nuv files to CDR/DVDR

2005-09-19 Thread Dave Just
There are several efforts to archive Myth recordings to DVD/SVCD,
etc, but what about simply archiving a set of nuv files without the
hassle of transcoding or building menu structure, etc? This would be
ideal for those of us who would like to just archive a few shows/
series which would only be viewed on a Myth box (or a PC capable of
viewing .nuv files).

This can be done manually by using nuvexport to export to nuv/sql/txt
files, then burning to CD/DVD. But it would be really nice if there
was an interface for doing this (like the "Author DVD" patch), and
also if CDs containing archived nuv files could be automatically
mounted and browsed just like the regular recorded program listings
on HD. A disk ID could be used to cache the database entries and
then store updated bookmarks, cut lists, etc.

Has anyone already thought of such a thing or attempted to program it?

 - Dave.
