The partition type is xfs. I haven't been able to verify yet whether
lowering the max file size fixes the problem, though

What filesystem are you using on that partition? Some filesystems
reserve a certain
percentage of space to be writable only by the root user, so on a 10 GB
partition you

may only be able to write about 9 GB as a normal user.

This is the same problem I have, except my partition is (just under) 5
GB. The problem with setting the size smaller is that is then leaves a
GB wasted.

But I would think there's still a bug there. The backend shouldn't go
into fits when the disk fills. It should politely wrap the buffer.

When you run mythtv-setup on a backend (master or slave) I seem to
recall an option to specify where the buffer file goes as well as where
the video files are stored.

In my case I recently added a slave backend and configured my
/video/recordings directory as an NFS mount so all recordings are stored
on the master backend. However the buffer directory on the slave
backend is local.

If that is not how this works please let me know.

Each backend has a ringbuffer; not sure if it's per-tuner or not.

Also, I think the entire ringbuffer concept is going away Real Soon Now
once Isaac finishes his re-working of LiveTV. Neat features are coming
like channel-change history and retro-active recording of LIveTV.

So, does every backend have a ringbuffer for each of its tuners, or
are they all on the master backend? Is there a doc somewhere that
goes over this?

No, the ringbuffer is on the backend, just like all of the other

Yes, you are confused. The ringbuffer(s) live on the back end, with
the tuner(s).

The ringbuffer will grow until it reaches the max size configured in the
database.  Try setting your max ringbuffer size to a smaller value;
it's in mythtv-setup, a setting called "Live TV buffer (GB)".

[mythtv-users] Buffer file not rolling

2005-10-06 Thread Mitko Haralanov
I have an interesting situation here that I have been noticing
lately. Last time I reinstalled my myth box, I decide to make a
dedicated partition for the buffer files. That way, no matter how much
I have already recorded, I always have the same amount of LiveTV buffer.

What I notice, however, is that when I start watching LiveTV,
the ring buffer file starts growing and never stops. It just doesn't
act as a ring buffer but rather as a normal file. Eventually, the
partition fills up and mythbackend goes into this infinite loop said
that there is not more space left on the device. What I have to do is
remove the ringbuffer file manually and then restart the backend.

I did a search in the mailing list but did not find anyting
useful. Has anyone else see this? Does anyone know what might be going
wrong?

thanx
