This is likely due to the fact that the new 0.18
debian binary packages have opengl vsync enabled. The
previous 0.17 packages did not. IIRC, in the past
Isaac has recommended binary distributions not have
this enabled. I'm not sure if the opengl vsync
segfaults have been addressed with the current cvs,
but you might give it a try or rebuild the packages
without opengl vsync.

I have since discovered that MythGallery does not work, and the
MythMusic visualisations also don't work, so it does indeed sound like
an OpenGL issue.

Thank you very much for your suggestion, Taylor. I will attempt to
build from source instead of using the binaries.

Update: Built from the tarball and it now works fine. Thanks again.

I guess it's a good thing I have a reboot script on the power button

If you change the recording group in Watch Recordings (using the menu
button) and exit the Watch Recordings screen without going into the list
of recordings (i.e. you stay on the left side of the list and don't push
the right button), it will segfault. I think this even happens if you
stay on the left, hit play or select, watch the recording, then exit the
Watch Recordings screen. Could this be what you're seeing?

I admit I've been lazy and haven't looked into it because it's just
easier to push right after changing the recording group Sorry Myth
devs (Note that you can push right, then go back to the left and
exit without a segfault.)

Ahhh, replying to myself: "this problem" --> the frontend crashing
problem, not the MythGallery problem. That works fine for me. A>

FWIW, I also have this problem. AMD Athlon-XP 2500, NForce-2 board,
440MX video card, 1x350, 1x250, Gentoo. My USE flags include opengl,
mmx, etc. I also get occassional frontend crashes after exiting TV
recordings. I don't know if it's getting more frequent, but I'd say
it happens about 30-40% of the time now. The annoyance factor is
going up, but it hasn't affected the WAF yet. Reviewing my use flags,
though, I see that ALSA, ARTS, and OSS are all enabled, so I'm
rebuilding now with only ALSA enabled. We'll see how it goes.

Nice to know I'm alone though.

Cheers,

I have the same problem with 0.18.1, also no log entries. My frontend
doesn't seem to crash every time though... just occassionally on exit.
