Re: [mythtv-users] How do you "tune" subchannels in QAM?
Taylor, sounds like I'm in the same boat as Marc. I've got Comcast in Denver, CO area. I can get unencrypted channels on several frequencies, two for example are channel 18 14700 Hz - CBS-HD channel 119 76500 Hz - ABC-HD dvbsnoop 0x1FFB just hangs until ctrl-C on either frequency. I suspected that something more should be coming through and that was why I had bad luck with the mythtvsetup channel scan, thanks for confirming this. Is there a possible workaround in the mean time for adding channels so I can record / watch live? The manual adding of channels to the database (as per Marc's post above) seems to do ok, but it certainly isn't perfect. Someone else who has working hd over qam (with hd3000) shared entries from their channels table with me which seem to have some different entries than are listed above (ie some entries which are null in Marc's post shouldn't be). When I get some time to sort through it, I'll post later with any insights I'm able to find. Program 2 is my local WB channel. I would have no problems with myth being able to see the channels are there but having to identify the channels manually. Maybe add in an option to do a PAT and PMT scan? It could also be that my cable company is not yet done setting this up in my area. 2 weeks ago I could get signal lock but dvbstream was reporting unknown FE. A week later dvbstream is working and this is where we are now. Not being finished is more likely. They do not even admit to sending the HD WB channel yet in their lineup. I skim this list once a week or so, so I sorry I didn't see this before.. Whomever it was having the problem I need the following questions answered: 1. What cable carrier are you using? 2. Do you know what frequencies you can get unencrpyted channels on? 3. Thanks for you concern, though. At my place OTA is just not possible. Or at least I could never get it to have a usable signal. I can confirm the above method of adding channels works, however, as I'm now in front of the frontend/backend system and am seeing HD-CBS live and clear! The channel scan myth performs locks on all the right channels but reports timed out while tuning. You got any better ideas I'm open to trying. Got home and tried the channel I setup. It plays.. Kinda.. it's almost as if something within mythtv itself is interfering with the signal or hampering playback. I get massive pixelization and the audio skips so much you can't hear anything understandable. Feeding from dvbstream to videolan works flawlessly through my network. Both my myth system (yggdrasil) and my gaming system (nidheg) are P4 3.40GHz's with GeForce FX 5700LE's The key differences between them are; nidheg has an audigy card and 1 gig ram and yggdrasil has the capture cards, PVR-350 and HD3000, and 512 meg ram. Ya overkill but yggdrasil is intended to be front/back and a transcoder with all intentions of lasting a long time. Azap works and tunes fine and captures work outside of mythtv using dvbstream. I have viewed them lots of times on several channels, it is fantastic to see HD captures from digital cable :) Mythtv, however, is not working with the hd3000-dvb & qam (or at least hasn't been) for me. It seems when scanning channels in mythtvsetup, something is off, as the frequencies which lock are not added to the database in any useable way. I only get 'timeout tuning channel' or 'unable to tune channel' or something like this. I thought maybe database entries should be added to the tables 'dvb_channel' or 'dvb_pids' or 'channel' but the only thing i've been able to get are entries to 'dtv_multiplex' after scanning which help (so I may manually edit the db) but don't give any functionality. I haven't been able to view programs yet with the above method of manually editing the database (away from the frontend), but i'm certainly stumped otherwise and am not afraid to try this. As i may have mentioned before, for me no channel information seems to come through with the TS which may be why myth is hanging here. I think that 'dvbscan -cvvv' after azap cxxx is where i would see this (outside of myth) but don't. Perhaps your cable system is providing this kind of information which is why you can get mythtv to autoscan. Then again, maybe there's something else I'm missing... If you can think of anything, I'm ready to try anything... even went so far as to install myth from cvs (reverted back to atrpms though), to see if something new was changed since the last release. Re: [mythtv-users] How do you "tune" subchannels in QAM?
Since you can view them outside of Myth, your channels must not be encrypted. Unfortunately for me, most of mine are. When I went through that process, it LOCKED a whole bunch of channels, but only was able to TUNE the three unencrypted channels which my local Comcast system provides. Since those three are a subset of what I can get over-the-air, I aborted using QAM and went back to using my antenna. Also, I am told that my local Comcast cable uses equipment to compress down the ATSC mpeg2 streams on-the-fly, so they can fit more channels in the same bandwidth. I therefore should be getting a "better" picture over-the-air. I assume you want to use QAM to get channels which are not available over-the-air? I certainly can't complain about the over-the-air picture quality from my HD-3000 cards. I recently added a PVR-350 to my system, and it works fine, but the picture quality compared to HD is almost painful. Re-reading my message here, I realize it really does not help you. Sorry. I am unable to locate information on this on in the archive and http://www.digitalregime.com/mythdvb/setup/ provides no assistance on this. I don't have a 3k card, I have an Air2PC, However, I would expect this to be the same. In mythtv-setup, run a DVB-scan. It will then add the channels, likely as 821 and 822. You can either leave it that way (which makes entering channels MUCH easier) or you can change it, like I did, so I have to co-exist with non-HD channels, to 82_1 and 82_2 in the list. It's impossible to hand enter without a real keyboard, but they show up consecutively in the list, and I can flip through them.. That's the problem. The scan fails to tune any channel. It locks on all the Digital channels but reports "failed to tune" or a timed out message then proceeds to the next channel. Dvbstream works just fine with capturing the TS and dtvstream will split them by program. However this negates the purpose of the PVR. Granted my pvr-350 is working fine for the analog channels. I'm hoping someone can help me by telling me how to enter the channels manually or point me to a patch that will allow me to select PID's in setup.. Even thou I am using the DVB driver and using DVB as the input type myth says that the card is using video for linux and will not diplay the DVB setup page. The VL page where I can manually enter the frequency for the channel lacks places to designate PID's all it has is the Freq and color contrast brightness etc adjustments. In other words I do not get to see these pages http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/images/chaned_dvb.jpg http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/images/tchaned_pid.jpg These are found on the guide found here http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/mythdvb.html I think quite a few of us working with the hd3000 are having the same problem and are looking for solutions. I've posted both here and in the hd3000 forum but it seems like no one has been able to find a solution to this problem yet. I haven't posted to myth-dev yet, but maybe thats the place where we may find someone who knows the answer to our question, as i think it is a problem with how mythtvsetup is handling the hd3000-dvb. For example, when i run dvbscan -cvvv no channel information is given, but i've seen examples with OTA ATSC streams where channel information is explicitly supplied in the stream. Mythtv may be looking for this and since it doesn't come through, myth assumes the channels are 'unable to tune'. -Adam for reference: http://www.xmission.com/~pchdtv/forum/viewtopic.php?t=639 http://www.xmission.com/~pchdtv/forum/viewtopic.php?t=634 http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/121772 http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/120911 http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/PcHDTV Have you been able to successfully tune the frequencies using azap? (get the instructions for installing it here: http://www.rsmas.miami.edu/personal/angel/mythtv/air2pc-howto.html) You might try just getting your card to successfully tune the channels, and as a worst case scenario, use the frequencies reported by azap for your channels in the DVB Transports section of the MythTV configuration. But first, just to rule out problems with your driver setup, you need to make sure azap works. -- John Sturgeon <>< http://www.sturgeonfamily.com/mythtv.php ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] How do you "tune" subchannels in QAM?
Wow, I never would have thought of that, thanks! I also added something similar to my database, where I used channel 18-1 (which is cbs-HD here). I can't verify right now if it is working (at work, too), but the backend replies it is successfully able to tune the channel... Now to find if it can tune subchannel 2 in a similar way... I think I figured it out… Since I knew C82 program 1 was my local PBS I located the correct frequency for this channel in dtv_multiplex INSERT INTO dtv_multiplex (mplexid, sourceid, transportid, networkid, frequency, inversion, symbolrate, fec, polarity, modulation, bandwidth, lp_code_rate, transmission_mode, guard_interval, visible, constellation, hierarchy, hp_code_rate, sistandard, serviceversion, updatetimestamp) VALUES (89,1,NULL,NULL,57300,'a',NULL,'auto',NULL,'qam_256','a','auto','a','auto',0,'auto','auto','auto','atsc',33,20050331082612); Using this knowledge I then changed the mplexid of the correct listing to 89 in channel. Re: [mythtv-users] How do you "tune" subchannels in QAM?
I think quite a few of us working with the hd3000 are having the same problem and are looking for solutions. -Adam for reference: http://www.xmission.com/~pchdtv/forum/viewtopic.php?t=639 http://www.xmission.com/~pchdtv/forum/viewtopic.php?t=634 http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/121772 http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/120911 http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/PcHDTV On Thu, 31 Mar 2005 02:37:23 -0500, Marc Tousignant <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> How can I tell myth to identify 82-1 and 82-2 as two channels? > >> I am unable to locate information on this on in the archive and > >> http://www.digitalregime.com/mythdvb/setup/ provides no assistance on > this. > > > >I don't have a 3k card, I have an Air2PC, However, I would expect this > >to be the same. > > > >In mythtv-setup, run a DVB-scan. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] How do you "tune" subchannels in QAM?
My PCHDTV 3000 is finally working.. I didn't change anything since my last attempt but whatever.. Using the latest myth cvs built about 3 hours ago the QAM scan shows several channels with a lock however it fails to tune any of the digital channels. Is this normal? Anyway I'm thinking I have to setup the QAM channels manually here is the problem. QAM channel 82 Freq 5730 has 2 subchannels. Program 1 is PBS in HD and Program 2 is WB in HD. How can I tell myth to identify 82-1 and 82-2 as two channels? I am unable to locate information on this on in the archive and http://www.digitalregime.com/mythdvb/setup/ provides no assistance on this. Any help is appreciated Marc ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
