Thanks Craig I'm afraid you have to solder it, nobody sells them because there's a theoretical possibility they can damage your TV, although i've never heard of that actually happening and it's been working fine for me for over a year. I managed to put one together or around £10 of parts. It's easiest if you can salvage a VGA cable from an old / dead monitor and half a scart cable. I've never soldered anything before in my life but didn't have a problem, so it can't be that hard. I pretty much followed this guide http://www.sput.nl/hardware/tv-x.html although I had to put power on a few other pins so the TV recognised that a signal was present and was widescreen (google for a scart pin-out and you find this information). Re: [mythtv-users] Methods for perfecting NVidia TV Output (was 350 Tv Out vs. Nvidia 5200)
I was using a VGA to SCART convertor until a month or so ago. For reference, my modeline was:- Modeline "720x576pali" 13.875 720 724 792 888 576 580 583 625 -hsync -vsync interlace This centered the picture for me and gave superb results with nvidia 6629. I had to wire in a couple of other pins as well (AV select and RGB select from memory). I powered those from my PC power supply. I also wired in sound and lirc and ran it over 2 CAT5 links back to my frontend machine under the stairs! Despite expectations, however, the interlacing was still not working properly for some reason - most noticeable with sports coverage. I tried everything to try and fix it and finally noticed that xvmc gave perfect output - properly interlaced, perfect (ie set top box quality) output. Problem was, xvmc was still very buggy for 6629. Sounds as though it may now be fixed with the latest driver though. Regards Mark ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Re: [mythtv-users] Methods for perfecting NVidia TV Output (was 350 Tv Out vs. Nvidia 5200)
You lucky folks in the UK with your SCART connectors and tons of freeview digital channels! Is there any tips (besides using a better connection method) for tweaking svideo output? Forgive my constant apples and oranges comparison here... but in the windows world, you can do a lot to improve picture quality by using a better MPEG2 software decoder, like the nvidia pure video one. Is there something analogous to "installing a better mpeg2 decoder" for linux playback? I mean, if someone has an Nvidia FX5200 with noisey substandard tv out components/cables nothing is going to help short of replacment. But if the problem is more of the GIGO variety, it think there's room for some tips/tricks/configuration help. The method I proposed (and use) sends the original (un-scaled, un-filtered, interlaced) signal straight back to the TV. That's the primary reason the result looks so good. If your TV has a SCART socket then i'd highly recommend soldering up your own VGA to SCART convertor. Then you can use an interlaced modeline to output a legal PAL/NTSC signal from vid card (i'm using an Nvidia MX440). The output quality is as good as you'll get short of going to DVI (which my TV doesn't support). I'm using DVB-T in the UK and the image quality I get is better than the output from Sony set-top-box.
