Hokay. That's someone's independent project that they're working on outside
the myth tree I thought you were talking about features incorporated into
mythtv.
They've worked on something in their own and announced it on users.
What's the problem there? That has nothing to do with the mythtv development
process.

There's a wiki for that sort of unrelated link. Expecting mythtv to link to
everyone and his dog's project is unrealistic.
If someone wants to work on something on their own then announce it. Fine. If
someone wants to work on something and get help they can announce their
intention.
If someone wants to work on something and announce changes on myth-dev they
can.

Perhaps the people working on the addon's don't want anyone else working on

gotten lost before...

I'm talking about 3'rd party apps. I've seen several things posted on
-users that people are like announcing, but there doesn't seem to be
any history of them having been working on it.

One such example I ran into is: http://mythextra.napsi.net/

...a mythMail (email reader) module. Something I've not only
suggested, but offered to help work on. I'd be so excited to have a
mail reader, that I'd actually connect a keyboard to my mythbox to
dev/test with!

In any case, all the projects on that page (mythmail available under
download) are not linked from any of the mythtv.org pages. I realize
it's not "usable" in the sense of being in CVS, but it would be really
cool if there where a section on mythtv.org, like here:

http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=Downloads

It could have links to different modules "in development" or
"unfinished", so we could at least find them without having to troll
-dev -users, google, etc. The only reason I found out about mythMail
is because I typed 'mythmail' in google... My lucky day! :)

Even better, a page where the dev's making those addon's can submit
their link to be added to this dev links section.

There's also a lacking in a collection of theme links available on
mythtv.org. Just one example is MythCenter, which I think is a very
nice theme, and although it emulates an m$ design, it's still
something people may want to know about...

Who knows, maybe if people knew about some of the addon's, they'd be
more willing to help develop them.

Not so much. Anyone can submit patches. They either get accepted,
rejected, or missed. Let's walk that path:

1. Accepted. Gravy.
2. Rejected because...
a) it's a badly structured fix (meaning that it doesn't take the right
approach)
b) doesn't fit coding conventions (meaning that it'll have to be
reworked)
c) it's a bad idea given what Myth is trying to do (meaning, don't
bother with this patch - nice try, but no cigar)
3. Missed. Ask questions and (politely) champion your patch in case
everyone missed it. Don't be impatient - this is a volunteer project,
remember? And don't expect confirmation emails. Check mythtv-commits
periodically to see if it got in...

In all cases, it's nothing personal - keep plugging away. I'm not a
developer, but I've submitted 3 patches in total. Two hit category 1.
One hit category 2a. We're all doing our bit...

Yes it is. Well its a binary that gives you a couple of examples of new
capabilities, i.e. fades, movement and animations. (There could be other
stuff, but not in the demo.) If you don't have OpenGL acceleration, don't

Apparently a lot of the initial discussion goes on between the devs off-list.
Sensible bearing in mind that a) they know the current architecture, b)
they'll be the ones doing all (?) the work, and c) it'll save them wasting
breath explaining for the twentieth time why feature X is not going to be

I'm a newb around here, I just got lucky talking to one of the devs on another

I get the feeling that 0.18 is more of an unofficial stabilising release to
firm things up in general from the 0.17, without any major changes (no
disrespect to those making additions to 0.17, but I'm thinking architectural
changes.)

A big one will be 0.19 when the whole GUI engine gets a thorough reworking. If
you've played with the MythUI test app, you'll know what I'm talking about.
