Re: [mythtv-users] Mythvideo - tvtomb

2005-04-06 Thread Ryszard
Is anyone interested in this toolsuite? I've made some more changes, the latest
features are added support for the coverfile.

You configure the filename in teh Parameters.pm config file and the
name you call the series you're adding. You can also configure an
optional default image (which i've called unknown.jpg, but can also be
changed to whatever you want).

if anyone wants the changes let me know.

Ok,

here is another version of things. I've called this stuff mythtools,
and it comprises of the sync tool (which syncs both ways now (removing
stuff from the db and adding stuff to the db)), and the tvtome stuff
for series.

there is a configuration file in the "Configuration" directory, so you
wont have to go and play about with modules directly. The config file
is actually a perl hash, but very easy to modfy.

I'd be interested in hearing bug reports, requests for features, and
if people actually use this stuff...

I'll get to this in the weekend some time.

2005-04-01 Thread John Kuhn
just a note for knoppmyth users.. you need to
apt-get install libcache-cache-perl
and then edit VideoMetaData.pm change ("DBI:mysql:mythconverg:myth1", to
something like ("DBI:mysql:mythconverg:localhost", localhost being where
your DB is located..

sorry, didnt see the post for a couple of days.

Included in the attachement is
TVTome.pm - TVTome parsing engine.
VideoMetaData.pm - a small module to get things out and put things
into videometadata
vidtest.pl - the script to run to create the magic.

there are dependencies on:
o Cache::FileCache
o HTML::TokeParser
o LWP::Simple
o DBI
all you do to run it is to install the dependencies, untar the archive

of series that i archive off host (but available to myth on a mounted
FS) in a filename format something like the.west.wing.s06e07.hdtv.
i think it would bepretty simple to write a paser to get this and grab
some info from tvtomb on each EP.
If such a util exists could someone point me to it? if it doesnt i
will certainly write it for me anyways, but will publish it if people
would use it.
I'm guessing you're talking about tvtome.com and not tvtomb.com. I
have no idea if anything like this exists yet, but I'd certainly be
interested in having a play with it if you create something.

One thing that's a consideration though, is there is quite a bit of
text info about each episode. It might be too much to display all of
it (at least for some episodes) on a TV screen through mythfrontend.
But it "should" be fairly simple to link it into mythweb. Take a
look at
http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-633/epid-24890/
and you'll see what I mean about the amount of text.

Is there a wishlist around for the next version of MythTV? Maybe a
scrollable text area for episode info could be created.

Craig...

I'm definitely interested in a scraper for TVTome, and have even
contemplated learning PERL/taking the IMDB scraper to bits to figure
out how to do it - alas, have had very little spare time recently what
with moving house an' all.

However, I don't really envisage it as something I'd use within MythTV
proper (if that's what you were getting at) - my xmltv feed (radio
times) already gives me adequate information about what's showing, and
hundreds of Myth users bombarding the TVT website every day would make
them wise up pretty sharpish.
Something that has been mentioned (and I'm going to take a look at doing
it) is to create a tv listings server that people can hammer instead of
the source servers. It should be able to scrape from multiple sources
(tv listings, imdb, tvtome, etc) and provide output in multiple formats
(xmltv and TiVo slices). I'd then expect people from the community to
run mirror servers in their own region.

The reason for looking at this is the archaic rules surrounding TV
listings here (down under) and the lack of reliability in the current
system (I'm getting TV listings atm, but no descriptions of the shows).
Also, it'd be nice to have a central point for comprehensive TV listings
regardless of what system you're using to record and view.

Using one system to scrape the listings (instead of many) would also
lend itself to a donation scheme for purchasing listings in places like
Australia where the listings are copyrighted.

I do however have about 400 episodes of various TV shows from my DVD
rips sitting in my mythvideo repository (another box set of Futurama
rendering away as we speak), and filling in the metadata by hand was
such a chore that I gave up.
Ouch... That's exactly the sort of thing I want to avoid.
As an aside, what do you reckon would be the best approach for the
"poster" window? I know that MythVideo expects the image to be at a
certain aspect ratio; should it just grab a generic $TV_SHOW_LOGO from
somewhere, or render a semi-random frame from within the file itself...?
Sorry, I can't answer that one.

Would be really cool if MythTV just saved shows in this format instead
of the number format it does not Save a step

I have been thinking about this for a while. I would love to have the
series episode information available within Myth.

It'd be nice to have just for browsing Myth. I have Myth set to record
every episode of That '70s Show whenever it's on any channel. During any
given week, That '70s Show has 3 separate seasons running in on 4
different time slots (current season at 7 PM on Thursday, one season of
reruns on at 6:30 PM weekdays, another season of reruns on at 10:30 PM
weekdays and 9 PM on Sunday). It would be nice to be able to browse
those shows by season, and maybe even have the episode number listed.

If Myth ever gets a DVD-burning module, having this season and episode
info would be very helpful. When I burn DVDs of That '70s Show, I like
to put only 1 season on a disc, and have the episodes in order, with
episode numbers and titles listed in the DVD menu.

Maybe a simple way to list the episode info would be to have an option
to turn episode and season listings on or off. If this option is
enabled, the recordings could be prefaced by a simple season #/episode
#. For example:

S4/Ep1: It's a Wonderful Life
S4/Ep2: Eric's Depression

Just some thoughts...

I'm guessing you're talking about tvtome.com and not tvtomb.com. I have
no idea if anything like this exists yet, but I'd certainly be interested
in having a play with it if you create something.

One thing that's a consideration though, is there is quite a bit of text
info about each episode. It might be too much to display all of it (at
least for some episodes) on a TV screen through mythfrontend. But it
"should" be fairly simple to link it into mythweb. Take a look at

Is there a wishlist around for the next version of MythTV? Maybe a
scrollable text area for episode info could be created.

Craig...
I'm definitely interested in a scraper for TVTome, and have even
contemplated learning PERL/taking the IMDB scraper to bits to figure out
how to do it - alas, have had very little spare time recently what with
moving house an' all.

However, I don't really envisage it as something I'd use within MythTV
proper (if that's what you were getting at) - my xmltv feed (radio times)
already gives me adequate information about what's showing, and hundreds of
Myth users bombarding the TVT website every day would make them wise up
pretty sharpish.

I do however have about 400 episodes of various TV shows from my DVD rips
sitting in my mythvideo repository (another box set of Futurama rendering
away as we speak), and filling in the metadata by hand was such a chore
that I gave up.

As an aside, what do you reckon would be the best approach for the "poster"
window? I know that MythVideo expects the image to be at a certain aspect
ratio; should it just grab a generic $TV_SHOW_LOGO from somewhere, or
render a semi-random frame from within the file itself...?
