You can then set these key codes to character codes with 'setkeycodes' in your local startup script 'rc.local'. Also have a look at xmodmap. You may not need to use it but you should know its there. Re: [mythtv-users] New Microsoft Media Keyboard
I have one of the Gyration compact UltraGT keyboard sets: http://www.gyration.com/ultragt-compact.htm It wasn't that expensive, I got it for under CAN$90 in a boxing day sale (that like US$70) which I think is good for a keyboard and a mouse of decent quality. Its a pretty good performer. The range is better than any other kb/mouse I have used, and the compact keyboard looks pretty good sitting on top of my centre channel speaker. Its basically a laptop keyboard in an external case. The mouse is rechargeable and comes with a docking base and the keyboard uses AAA batteries. It very frugal on batteries, I think I got 5 months out of the cheapy batteries that came with it. Currently using one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823190006 and it works great with linux. Range is pretty good, better than the logitech wireless stuff (so around 10-15 feet) but not as good as the logitech bluetooth solutions (30+ feet). Good enough for my setup anyways. Trackball is cheap and annoying, but still miles better than most other joystick solutions I tried. What I really want is a small 30 foot wireless keyboard with an IBM trackpoint, 2 mouse buttons and a clickable scroll wheel for the 3rd button. Anybody know how to remap keys on a linux usb keyboard? Not sure where to start, the top has keys for shut down and sleep which basically just crash my machine. I would like to disable or remap them, any pointers for where to start? Re: [mythtv-users] New Microsoft Media Keyboard
Being that it's a PS/2 keyboard it shouldn't have any compatibilty problems then a regular keyboard. It's gonna have the same scancodes as a normal keyboard but you'll have additional rapid access keys which in linux could usually be handled by setkeycodes, loadkeys, setmetamode, getkeycodes(8), setkeycodes(8), dumpkeys(1), loadkeys(1), setmetamode(1). Then the appropriate mapping would have to take place... I for one am intersted in purchasing one and actually using it. The whole idea that it's 30 foot, and includes a mouse i a plus for me.
