I have that exact motherboard in my FE machine. It will pass out any AC3 audio stream. What it means by 5.1 is that you can actually have the onboard sound pass out the individual channels through it's various audio plugs. But throught the digital out, you can do 5.1 and 7.1 directly from DVDs/HDTV.
