On the other hand the cheapest I've found the PVR-250 in stock is $148 US, I've found the PVR-500 for $140. I just bought the PVR-250MCE for $99 from www.pcalchemy.com. The price is listed as "call", but if you add it to cart, it will show up correctly. The differences between the -250 and -250MCE is that the MCE does not come with a remote and has RCA connectors directly on the back of the card (rather than the adaptor dongles the -250 comes with). The ivtv drivers I'm using IDed it as a generic -250. I don't remember what drivers I'm using; the first batch I tried worked fine. --Jim ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

If you're comfortable w/ the driver support for the PVR500, i'd say do it. Just note the pvr250 has been around a lot longer, and support for it is pretty solid in myth. I'm not sure what the latest ivtv drivers look like concerning the pvr500, but you may have to do more troubleshooting. As far as remotes, the PVR250 remote is mediocore IMO. I'd suggest getting a radioshack 15-2116 remote. It'll run you about $30-$40, but is wonderful and well built. There's even a guide on how to get it running in myth: http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/remotes.php On Fri, 4 Feb 2005 01:00:02 -0500, Ben Giddings <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi all, > > I'm building a new MythTV box, and am trying to decide what to do about > the tuner. [mythtv-users] PVR-250 with included remote, or PVR-500 MCE and 3rd party remote?
Hi all, I'm building a new MythTV box, and am trying to decide what to do about the tuner. I know I want a hardware tuner, so I'm trying to decide between the Hauppage PVR-250 and 500. I know the PVR-250 has been around much longer, and is well supported, and from reading the list, the support for the PVR-500 is still at a pretty alpha stage. On the other hand the cheapest I've found the PVR-250 in stock is $148 US, I've found the PVR-500 for $140. It sounds like the PVR-500 is close to being ready for actual use, at least for standard US-NTSC, so I'm leaning towards getting it (especially since a dual tuner would be really handy today, what with annoying broadcasters ending their shows at 10:02 instead of 10:00 and such. So far, am I making sense? So if I do get the PVR-500, I'll need to do something else about the remote control. I saw a thread recently that discussed people's fave remote controls. Is the one that comes with the PVR-250 actually a decent remote control? How does it compare to the ATI remote wonder, or to a standard universal remote? I guess the other option for getting two tuners is one single-tuner card (PVR-250, PVR-250 MCE or PVR-150 or PVR-150MCE) and then getting a pcHDTV card. They do work with standard NTSC cable, right?
