Re: [mythtv-users] RF remote
I can recommend the ATI remote wonder as well. Although I did have some problems getting it to work with FC3/Myth 0.17 (Using Jarod's guide). The lircd.conf file a contributed to lirc (it's supplied in the lirc package) no longer worked (??). I had to make a new one using irreccord. The codes are completely different...:( But using the new codes it works like a charm again (it's not the nicest looking remote but...). Re: [mythtv-users] RF remote
I have the MCE remote, and I can get it to work "sometimes". I had to compile LIRC with a special driver from Martin Blatter to even get a response from it. The problem I face now is that it isn't always on when I reboot the frontend. Martin thinks this might be a problem with my mobo and kernel 2.6.10-1.770 and suggests that it is fixed it 2.6.11. I tried compiling a 2.6.11 kernel only to see failure. That was a month or so ago. I have since given up on that until FC4 comes out. I will be buying an IR keyboard from LITE-ON. I can program that with my universal remote and boom, no more going to a corded keyboard! Here's a thread about the ATI Remote Wonder: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/92099?search_string=ati%20remote%20wonder;#92099 I use the ATI Remote Wonder, since the Myth Box will be in another room with no line-of-sight for InfraRed. Amazingly, the ATI Remote Wonder worked on Fedora Core 2/3 right out of the box. I haven't patched the source code, ati_remote.c, but it definitely needs some keys added. If the ESCAPE key is in the original ati_remote.c source, I haven't found it yet. Have a look at the thread noted above, and a little searching of the archives should lead to a guide for applying patches and replacing the vanilla ati_remote.ko module. I haven't had much luck setting it up with myth though. I tried installing it like the ATI remote but I was never able to make it work. Just got the Niveus PC Remote, which seems to be similar to the ATI Remote Wonder and even uses the lirc_atiusb module. Setting up the USB RF dongle with LIRC was very easy in my case, unlike the Hauppauge remote that came with my capture card which was kind of a pain. The Niveus is also an IR remote for controlling TVs, cable boxes, DVD players, etc. I've got it working with my TV, cable box, and PlayStation 2 (for DVDs), and you're supposed to be able to program individual buttons using the original remote, but I haven't been able to make that work yet. As a remote, it's OK. The buttons are gummy, and the button layout is kind of ridiculous (all the keys I find useful are tiny and scrunched together towards the bottom of the unit). There's also some lag when using the remote in RF mode, and so far keys aren't auto-repeating in MythTV (probably a config problem).
