I still don't know exactly what caused that issue.  I'm guessing it was
a combination of effects.  I eventually rolled that code change out, and
instead made my TZ a non-daylight savings one.  

Thanks for posting the patch yesterday, it saved my Sunday night
recordings ;-)

FWIW, I applied your hack and I do not have this problem.
As the originator of the hack, I don't see this problem either.
