Hello All,
I have this EXTREMELY annoying problem. I have an Avermedia M179 card
using the ivtv modules. I can record fine if I do a "cat /dev/video0 >
/tmp/somevid.mpg" but when I try to record in Myth the moment it
starts to record the screen goes with all straight vertical lines and
no sound. If I start the mythfronted from terminal, I can see that it
is bitching about invalid file handle when opening
/var/lib/mythtv/blahblah... and the name of the file is really long.
Any ideas on this one?? TIA!

[mythtv-users] Recording problems

2005-10-20 Thread Mike

Hey folks,

I've been running a TV tuner card in my system for a couple years now,
and have been wanting to build myself a dedicated box for mythtv for
almost as long.

This week I finally purchased a new SFF system specifically to be my
mythbox. It's an Athlon 2500+, 1GB RAM, about 250GB of hard drive space,
and I put in my aging Hauppauge WinTV PCI card (this is just a tuner
card - no hardware encoding) to hold me over till I get a PVR350.

I've got everything setup (I think) though there seems to be something
wrong somewhere. I have two problems:

1. Livetv isn't so live - after running for a mere 5 seconds or so, the
video goes slightly slow motion and falls further and further behind the
audio. Like I said, the tuner card doesn't have a hardware encoder, but
a 2500+ processor should be more than ample to do the job. (my CPU load
hovers at about 35-40%)

2. I can't record anything. Mythfilldatabase worded like a charm, and I
can look at the entire program guide. I can go through the motions of
setting up a recording, but when I go to "save these settings" it
doesn't seem to actually save them. Nothing shows up in "Upcoming
Recordings" and nothing gets recorded. I've also tried doing a manual
recording to no avail.

Some other info: The tuner card works, I can watch TV using TVTime.
My system (Mandrake 10, yes I tried knoppmyth, but I couldn't get the
video to work using it) is completely up to date.
My directory for recordings is non-standard, but is setup, and a file
does get created when I do use the "watch live TV" option.
I've played with the buffer sizes, but they don't have any discernible
effect.

Because it's basically working (albeit with problems) I'm fairly sure
it's just one or two minor misconfiguration that are causing these two
problems. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

[mythtv-users] Recording problems

2005-08-12 Thread Steve Wesemeyer
Hiya,

I have almost finished setting up my MythTV box and am amazed at what I can
do with it already. The last remaining problem is that mythbackend keeps
insisting on setting the TV norm to PAL-BG when recording a scheduled
recording.
Since I live in a PAL-I area, all I get is a great picture but with static as
audio.
I set the TV norm during start-up and have a little cron-script that checks
the TV norm regularly and resets it if necessary. However, when the script
resets the TV norm during a recording, I get the sound back but the picture
is now only a quarter of the screen with the rest being made up of the
picture present at the time when the switch occurred which is not really
useful...

I have searched Google and the mailing lists for a possible solution but
haven't found anything.

Does anyone have any suggestion bar hacking the source to force MythBackend to
set the tuner to use PAL-I?

I'm using Kanotix 2005-03 (kernel 2.6.11.11), mythtv 0.18.1 and a Hauppauge
Primio WinTV PCI FM (with a cx8800 chipset).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
 Steve

[mythtv-users] Recording Problems

2004-12-17 Thread Law Barstow
I've got Mythtv setup to the point that I can watch live tv (Many thanks
to Jarod and Axxel for their most helpful sites), but when I schedule a
recording, the playback is a black screen with no sound.

The hardware: FC3 on x86_64, setup as a backend and frontend (for now),
Hauppauge PVR-350 - and haven't tried video out yet. ( Once I can watch
and schedule then I'll work on video out.) Recording profile set to use
MPEG2-PS.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Law
