btw, I'm looking for a remote and not a keyboard. I alry have an RF
logitech keyboard but I really want to chuck it for a remote.

It's base station makes it look like a USB keyboard so, rather than setting up LIRC, the thing is to remap application keys to match the remote. Myth, mplayer and xine all let you do that, so it's worked quite well. It sounds icky, and I was planning on putting in a "better" solution, but this has worked surprisingly well, so I'll likely not bother.Matt.___

We go the wireless keyboard with JP1 programmed remote that emulates
the keyboard. One ir receiver that gives you a keyboard if you need
it and the remote. If you get the ir receiver for an Adesso wireless
keyboard, we have the programming file on our website for a JP1 remote
of your choice.

[mythtv-users] Remote to use w/ EPIA M10000

2005-06-30 Thread Pane, Chris

So Today my motherboard arrived and I realized I
hadnt come up with a remote control solution. My prototype myth box as a
mast/slave PC with a PVR250, and I got lirc working with that. My back end in
my real deployment will be that same PC, with the PVR250 card being used for
PVR Functionality, but since it is not part of my front end, is of no use.

So my question (Which I am currently researching as I type).

What are people with EPIA m1 doing for remotes.

Can you use an existing remote, and purchase a receiver. Id
love to use my Dish Network Remote aux functionality. But if thats to
much of a pain, am open to purchasing a remote.

I have no experience with IR/IrDA. The m1 has a FIR and CIR.
I think one uses IrDA which I think is a protocol more not used by basic
remotes.

I am curious what others are using ?

Thanks

-Chris

Simplest option would probably be to get a LIRC-based serial IR
receiver, which would let you re-use the 250's remote if you wanted
to, or most other IR remotes. (FIR/CIR is the wrong type of IR device
to use) You also have the option of getting a USB-based receiver
instead.

Another option is to use a suitable wireless keyboard and a learning
remote, which negates the requirement to use LIRC on the frontend as
you get the remote to 'learn' the keyboard instead.

I am in the process of setting up a basic serial receiver as described
on the lirc pages. It works, once you get your soldering right. I am not the
best solderer in the world.

You can either make an external cover for it and plug into the serial
port on the back of the motherboard (which is /dev/ttyS0), or plug it
into the header on the motherboard (which is /dev/ttyS1). The pins for
the MB header are in the manual.

I had mine attached inside the motherboard, but couldn't quite squeeze
it into the case, so am looking for an external wrapper. In fact I am
fighting my son for his TIE fighter :-)
