[mythtv-users] Static on only One Channel

2005-10-17 Thread Mark Gardner
I upgraded myth a while ago (svn version from a couple of weeks ago)
and since then I've gotten static on only 1 channel. Direct to the tv
comes out pretty clean but the myth box has heavy diagonal lines
through the picture.

Viewing comcast regular cable in Provo, Utah and the staticy channel is 28.
Any Idea why this one channel would be staticy?

I tried the suggestion for the other type of cable (us-cable-hrc, I
didn't see us-cable-irc listed), but that made all the channels static.

I flipped through the setup menu, where abouts is the 'auto tuning' located?

Thanks for the help.

This might be a dumb question, but did you enable "auto tuning" on the

Hi,
Yes, for us all channels up through 99 are working fine in MythTV.
I don't know how to test them from the command line so that's all
we've done. We are using a PVR-150 (non-MCE) with a type 50 tuner. We
did not have to apply any of the patches that Michael directed you
toward. We're just loading tveeprom and then ivtv but doin it very
late - not in modprobe but in local.start.

Good luck,

One of the two backends I'm trying to get working is using a PVR-150.
I get video and audio from the ivtv-0.3.5p driver, but the driver does
not load correctly at boot time for me under Gentoo if they are in
modprobe.conf. I get a blue screen and distorted audio. I moved the
modprode statements to /etc/conf.d/local.start and they load fine.

If this sounds remotely like what you arre seeing then try this driver
and jsut modprobe it by hand. That works for me.

BTW - so foar there are a few of us who cannot tune above channel 60
with this driver and the PVR-150.

Good luck,

Subject: [mythtv-users] Static on PVR-150 running FC3

I've followed Jarod's guide pretty much word-for-word for setting up
Myth on FC3 and have run into a few issues. I'm using 2 PVR-150s and a
GeForce FX 5200.

First, all I get is static when I set up Myth and enter Watch TV mode.
I've set up my 150s in Myth's Capture Devices section as the 250/350
setting, which I'm presuming is correct. The system is recognizing at
least 2 cards (/dev/video0 and /video1), and all I get is static on the
screen, along with the on-screen programming information. I've even
tried the following settings, and now I get static for one second, and
then Myth locks up and gives me an error. Maybe this is because I'm
still using the monitor instead of the TV right now...

# /usr/bin/ivtvctl -u 0x3000
# /usr/bin/ivtvctl -p 4 (I've tried 0 and 1 also) # /usr/bin/ivtvctl -f
width=720,height=480

Any ideas from anyone that might know my problem or something good to
try would be greatly appreciated, especially since I'm sure someone else
out there is running 150s successfully =).

Finally, on the annoying side, the /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 devices
aren't showing up in the system until I run the "/sbin/modprobe ivtv"
command as root. Where can I put this command so it will run as root on
startup?

Again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Re: [mythtv-users] Static on PVR-150 running FC3

2005-05-31 Thread Rob Bongiovi
I'm a novice, so may not be 100% correct, but to get
my PVR-500MCE working after having similar symptoms as
you do (which is supposedly 2 PVR-150's on one card),
I did the following:

First, my modprobe.conf has the following two sets of
lines:
>From Jarod's guide:

# ivtv (PVR-500MCE)
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
alias char-major-81-1 ivtv
options cx25840 no_black_magic=1

>From this thread:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/devel/20096?search_string=pvr-500;#20096

alias tveeprom tveeprom-ivtv
alias msp3400 msp3400-ivtv
alias tuner tuner-ivtv

Second, I couldn't use the script that Jarod describes
for loading mythbackend. Instead, I load it using the
~/.kde/Autostart/myth-load.sh file by inserting

mythbackend &

before I load mythfrontend.

Hope this helps.

Rob

[mythtv-users] Static on PVR-150 running FC3

2005-05-31 Thread Jason Luttrell
I've followed Jarod's guide pretty much word-for-word for setting up
Myth on FC3 and have run into a few issues. I'm using 2 PVR-150s and
a GeForce FX 5200.

First, all I get is static when I set up Myth and enter Watch TV mode.
I've set up my 150s in Myth's Capture Devices section as the 250/350
setting, which I'm presuming is correct. The system is recognizing at
least 2 cards (/dev/video0 and /video1), and all I get is static on
the screen, along with the on-screen programming information. I've
even tried the following settings, and now I get static for one
second, and then Myth locks up and gives me an error. Maybe this is
because I'm still using the monitor instead of the TV right now...

# /usr/bin/ivtvctl -u 0x3000
# /usr/bin/ivtvctl -p 4 (I've tried 0 and 1 also)
# /usr/bin/ivtvctl -f width=720,height=480

Any ideas from anyone that might know my problem or something good to
try would be greatly appreciated, especially since I'm sure someone
else out there is running 150s successfully =).

Finally, on the annoying side, the /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 devices
aren't showing up in the system until I run the "/sbin/modprobe ivtv"
command as root. Where can I put this command so it will run as root
on startup?

Again, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Not at all.
I've got a PVR350 which so far has given my nothing be static (I tried
both ivtv0.1.9a, from zzz, and 0.2.0rc3b from Chris).
Use one of the 0.2.0 releases or (only if using FC) Axel's
0.1.10-pre2-ck100zz package.

When I change channels The pattern in the static doesn't change so I
believe It's not doing anything.
White noise should be white noise, regardless of channel. ;)
In my Win98 box the card works ok. I've checked the modules.conf, I've
upgraded the firmware (pvr_1.18.21.22266_inf.zip), I've set the right
values though ivtvctl (-f width=720,height=576, -p 4, -u 0xff), tried
the new tuners patch. All with no effect. And oh, and funnily enough in
ptune-ui.pl the frequency table (europe_west) is not in the table
(weird). Any ideas?

Here's a list of my data and stuff:
From tveeprom:
ivtv: i2c attach [client=MSP3418W-B3,ok]
tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 48139, rev = K257, serial# = 7597097
tveeprom: tuner = Philips FM1216 ME MK3 (idx = 57, type = 38)
Yours is not one of the new tuners. Both of the new tuners are NTSC.
Yours is type 38--which has been available for quite some time.
Therefore, you do *not* need the tuner patches. If you have already
compiled them, they won't hurt, but don't go off on a tangent because of
the tuner patches, because they are not your problem.

tveeprom: tuner fmt = PAL(D/K) (eeprom = 0x74, v4l2 = 0x00400e17)
audio_processor = CS5331 (type = 9)
ivtv: i2c attach [client=tveeprom[1],ok]

From modules.conf.local:
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
alias char-major-81-1 ivtv
If using ivtv-0.2.0-rc, the above is all you need. The options below
will probably cause problems.

options ivtv ivtv_debug=1 ivtv_std=2 tuner=28,38
options msp3400 once=0 simpler=1 simple=1
add below ivtv msp3400 saa7115 saa7127 tuner
Do not preload modules manually. The ivtv driver will take care of
loading all dependent modules for you. Just make sure you load ivtv
with modprobe and *not* with insmod.

add above ivtv lirc_dev lirc_i2c ivtv-fb
You can keep this, too.
Note that if you take out the options and add below I specified, your
system should almost work, but you'll probably need one other option.
Some--generally French SECAM users--may need to specify

options ivtv tda9887=0
PAL users, may need to specify
options ivtv tda9887=1
Since yours is a PAL/SECAM multiformat tuner, you may need one of these
options.

HTH.

Seems real obvious, but how do you know that -p 4 is the right ivtvctl

No I don't, but this is the only one who gives me static i.s.o. a black
screen.

I'm in the same boat. I get partial success by using a cheap RF amp, but
I'm taking a more drastic step in rebuilding the box as a FC2 (instead of
FC3). Oh, and I also tried the bleeding (0.3) ivtv...no joy.

Please let me know if you figure something out. (FWIW, I'm tuner type 2)
