Re: [mythtv-users] TV Freezes

2005-06-28 Thread Michael Jones
Sam,

I found the solution to my problem.. it might also be yours.

The ivtv module which drives the hauppauge (and other) cards was loading
AFTER the mythbackend.

The module must load BEFORE /etc/init.d/mythbackend is called.

Re: [mythtv-users] TV Freezes

2005-06-28 Thread Jeroen Brosens

I reckon that it must have something to do with the 0.18.1+ code,
because on 0.18 everything ran smoothly. Since I compiled the 0.18.1
release (from the website) and used it, the playback of recordings
freezes after a few seconds. Everytime I have to stop it and press play
once again; only then it plays uninterrupted. What it is that causes
the problem I don't know, but it is somewhat annoying.

If you run the frontend from a prompt, does the log ouptut give any
information? It sounds like a probable NVidia driver issue, but the
output from the frontend as to why LiveTV aborted should give some
useful info.

Well..

I haven't found a permanent solution to this.. but what I've found is if you
go into a terminal (as su) and type:

/etc/init.d/mythbackend restart

Mine works..

I have yet to figure out WHY I have to do this.. but this at least works in
the meantime (for me).

Re: [mythtv-users] TV Freezes UPDATE

2005-06-27 Thread Matt Gorecki
I was having the same problem, but I did get it fixed, sort of. It has
something to do with the modprobe of ivtv. If I let mythbackend start
automatically, I get the freeze. However, when I run /sbin/modprobe
ivtv and then start mythbackend by hand, it doesn't freeze. I haven't
had the time to look into why it doesn't probe properly. I also have
problems with lirc not starting properly on boot. If I modprobe lirc by
hand all is well. My guess is they aren't being probed at the right
time during boot.

As far as the blue border you can run this command:

xvattr -a XV_COLORKEY -v 66046

That changes the blue to black effectively removing the border. You
will have to apt-get install xvattr to get this to work. The change
isn't permenant, so you will have to run it again every time you login.
If you look on Google you can find a startup shell script to
automatically change it on boot.

I'll just double check you on this. Can you record a show right now?
When I had this problem I could play previously recorded shows but I
could not actually record new ones. If you can record right now then
that's certainly a bit different than my system was at the time.

What shows up in dmesg when you try to watch TV?

Which version of ivtv? I'm on Gentoo so I don't follow the Fedora
setup stuff much.

Check dmesg and get the portion between the two obvious IVTV define
lines. It's a fairly large section. Check that it's really seeing your
card. I've had the same problems with some versions of ivtv on my 250.
I'm currently using 0.3.6p which is fairly new along with letting udev
completely do the setup. It's working pretty well but I haven't
rebooted enough times to feel I can say it will install every time.
