Re: [mythtv-users] any video cards with component out?
Nope, not fast enough for HDTV, sorry. The modchip mentioned is a chip that can be build into your xbox to allow it to run non-signed software, such as linux. Microsoft doesn't allow this by default, since they make money on selling xbox games, and want you to buy those instead of only using the xbox as a nice myth frontend. Note that you can hack most xbox's without installing a modchip, but this is a bit less flexible that a modchip. See www.xbox-linux.org for some more info on getting linux to run on an xbox. You can find more about running Myth on the xbox on http://bit.blkbk.com/ (and in particular the forums at http://bit.blkbk.com/phpBB2/ ). You should note that though the xbox has a component out, and can run hdtv resolutions, I'm not sure it can actually handle displaying/decoding 720p/1080i content fast enough. (I haven't got any hardware to siplay those resolutions...) Wouter ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] any video cards with component out?
I also have a pcHDTV. I use an audio authority to transcode VGA to component on my frontend in the living room. I have an Xbox as a frontend in the bedroom, and while nice for a frontend, it cannot even begin to decode the HDTV stream. my 2.5Ghz living room PC with 512Mb RAM and Geforce 4 MX 4000 is about 90% CPU to watch a HD stream. The Xbox is something like 733Mhz, and it completely chokes when a HD stream is selected. So, although it is true the xbox can output 1080i desktop and play HD games, it certainly cannot decode a HDTV stream. Lastly: my Geforce4MX 4000 produces unsatisfactory 1080i, so I am using 480p (which actually looks very very nice with HD). But, I am planning on trying the 5200 or higher to see if they scale things to 1080i better. This may not be what you are looking for but if you buy an xbox and its component adaptor you will get a hdtv frontend for about $200-$250 depending on modchip. I see that xbox has a component adapter. But how does the rest of this work? I have another machine that has the hd3000, and then what...? How do I connect to the xbox? I assume this is the modchip. What's that? Where do I get it? sean ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] any video cards with component out?
I've got an hd3000 which I want to use to drive a 47" panasonic rptv. The rptv can do 1080i, but only has component input. I'm getting an athlon-xp 3000, 512mb, and an FX5200 ( which I gather is the card of choice around here, right?). I'll need a vga -> component converter. Looking at Audio Authority and Key Digital ( any recommendations.) But before I did that I wanted to find out if any video cards that work with myth and xine-hd have component video out. sean ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
