The reason you have sound twice is because you need to mute the line
in. Try kmix. Also make sure to turn on "recording" for the line in as
well.

[mythtv-users] mythtv setup

2006-01-23 Thread Art Fore
Well, finally have it partially working. Have the video, which is jerky,
and the sound twice, one delayed from the other. Probably has to do with
setup. Does anyone have any setup info for comcast or know where I can
find it? Also, should I setup for v4l /dev/video0 or should I setup for
the pcHDTV 3000?

[mythtv-users] mythtv-setup for slaves...

2006-01-07 Thread John Andersen
I've noticed a number of questions on the list and a few
instances of confusion on my part all of which were due
to the fact that mythtv-setup on slaves shows some
settings that pertain to the master backend.

It would seem that these should be hidden when mythtv-setup
is run on a slave.

It would end a lot of confusion. There are
some settings that are not at all obvious that they refer to
the master, and others that are clearly labled as pertaining
to the master.

I think you could ssh to the master and run mythtv-setup
there if you were running it headless, so I don't see the
need to make master settings on a slave, especially since
some of these (may) require a mythbackend restart.

But if you did follow the detailed setup, it WOULD be in your

Re: [mythtv-users] mythtv setup without backend and mysql

2005-07-27 Thread Joe Votour
LiveTV (unless you modify the menus to call an
external program for watching LiveTV) is a recording -
a recording that plays back while it's recording.
Therefore, you require MySQL, because the backend
(which is needed for recording) contains the capture
card settings.

Additionally, LiveTV won't work without the database,
because the database contains your channel list, so
that MythTV knows what channels it can tune to.

Simply put, if you plan on doing any kind of recording
at all (including LiveTV), you require the backend.
If you require the backend, then you require MySQL.

Then do a reinstall ;)
You can uninstall a package so the binary's are removed, but the config files
are saved. Or you can purge a package so all files (including config files)
are removed. If you reinstall a package and it finds some changed config
file, it will ask you what to to with it (overwrite it or not).

Linux? Normally, one.
One of the problems is that apt-get is not the tool you should use to install
or delete packages. It's better to use aptitude or dselect (my favorite, but
you need to know how it works) because they will do a better job. They still
use apt to do the magic stuff. They will also delete the downloaded
packages.

Sure it is. If I've spent the time configuring a package I don't want
all my config files deleted if I want to temporarily remove it.

Everyone complains how "bad" windows is, but at least I don't have to

I was even able to run the front and backend even though apt-get remove ran

obviously, apt-get in not a 100 % app. Or it's functionaly does not fully

I also would have thought that apt-get should even delete the downloaded
modules but when I did a apt-get install mysttv-suite

there was nothing for it to download, system contained latest modules.

But it will remain a mystery, the system suffered a drive fail so I have to
reinstall every thing.

so I'll be back tomorrow with questions on how to get it to display live

If you instaleld it using apt, you should remove with apt.
apt-get remove on a dependency does wonders.

If you instaleld it using apt, you should remove with apt.
apt-get remove on a dependency does wonders.

Try Knoppix Myth distro. It works out of the box !!!

You aren't giving us much to go on. I would yank out the other
capture card and put the PVR in, in order to isolate the
configuration. Please repost with more info like what ivtv version
you are trying use, kernel version, etc. the output of dmesg and
/etc/modprobe.conf would also be useful.

2005-06-15 Thread Todd Bailey

Wilson's guide doesn't cover uninstalling at all.
has many areas where user's have to guess what step need to be taken or
skipped.

but it's better that nothing

Nor did it cover enough configuration aspects, however dropping the
database and recreating got be back to a point where I could reconfigure.
also apt-get uninstall mythtv-suite doesn't uninstall/delete the packages or
folders / code/ files etc either.

eventually I got to a situation where I have to reformat and reinstall the
os. The brute force method works well, just like my old windows days

knoppix myth was a waste of time as well, square peg-round hole situation

I had a similar problem with Iulius. Axel posted something about a
week ago regarding the missing themes. You will want to get the
MythTv Themes tarball, unpack it, and copy the Blue folder to your
themes folder:

cp -a Blue /usr/share/mythtv/themes/
That should take care of your problem of not finding blue. I am not
sure if that is all that you need to get up and going, but it worked
for me, so thanks Axel.

Actually, I just symlinked the default theme to blue (cd
/usr/share/mythtv/themes && ln -s default blue), and I brought up lircd,
so now I don't get any obvious errors, but mythtvsetup isn't giving me
more than those two screens. And my keyboard doesn't work to operate
the butons -- I can move between, but space/enter doesn't activate the
buttons

[mythtv-users] mythtv setup and pvr-500

2005-04-15 Thread mandal
Ok I clearly am having wild luck.

I'm running a Pvr-500 in a pundit-r.
I can get signal on both tuners and switch between two channels. But
how come onceI hit R on one tuner to record a show i see curently running
I cannot then simply hit C (change tuners). And watch a different show?
I figured since the coax going into the card feeds both tuners.
I should be able to watch both at the same time.
Or do I need to send one signal in via coax and another in via
svideo, composite ?

Also why can't I get P-I-P either ?
Thanks,
Mark

[mythtv-users] Mythtv setup segfault

2005-03-02 Thread R.Goff
Hi,
After upgrading to a 2.6.10 kernel from 2.6.7, mythtv-setup now
segfaults after asking whether i want to clear card/channel settings,
and spits out these messages:

2005-03-02 20:19:06.269 Switching to square mode (blue)
mythtv: could not connect to socket
mythtv: No such file or directory
lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages
2005-03-02 20:19:07.649 Joystick disabled.
Segmentation fault.
I'm not quite sure what socket it cant connect to, or what file it
cannot find, but it was all working before the kernel upgrade, and my
kernel configuration was the same under both versions. I don't believe
its anything to do with lirc, since that's disabled in the compile i am

Since you have but so much effort into an FC script i'm guessing FC if your
distro of choice, so why not make the forum specific to the various versions
of FC and MythTV?

Just a thought :)

I was thinking of doing the same thing actually. A few months back, I
finished customizing an RHEL3 kickstart image for my company. I did both
cdrom customization & a network based install package. It would actually
be quite easy to do with a stable version of the Axel's packages, or
dynamically with apt of course. I'm working on some house projects at the
moment, but I will definetly get the FC3 script up and running soon. Let
me know about kickstart - I'd love to be involved.

regards,
Ryan

Cool, I actually finally got back to looking at the older version a week or
two ago, and found only the FC1 version. Glad to hear about the update, and I
swear I'll get mention of it into the docs themselves. I've got some other
ideas relating to kickstarts floating around in my head, it would be nice to
tie a kickstart together with some of your stuff...

[mythtv-users] MythTV Setup Script - Updated

2004-12-05 Thread Ryan Pisani
About six months ago I made a scripted version of Jarod's Fedora mythtv
setup (http://wilsonet.com/mythtv)available at frouse3.homelinux.com.
About 2 weeks ago I rebuilt my home-web server and the script has since
been offline. In the last few weeks I've had some requests for the script
- so I've gone and created a forum on a real web server. I've posted the
original FC1 script as well as a sloppy FC2 version at
forum.linuxisahobby.com. I intend on making a fully functional mythtv /
Linux forum - (maybe there is no use for another one out there - but oh
well). When my schedule free's up I'll make an FC3 version (THANKS JAROD
:). So for anyone that wants to download the script go for it, and if
anyone wants to kick off the forum feel free. I'd appreciate input as to
what topics are necessary / desired.

regards,
Ryan
