Hi,

The problems I have is that the quality of the picture is noticable
worse than the broadcast quality. Without deinterlacing, there is quite
a lag in fast moving objects or a talk host who moves his head while he
talks, my girlfriend calls it 'octopus images' when arms and or legs are
involved. With interlacing the lag is less noticable, but the image does
shock now and then (like sometimes 1 or 2 frames are cut out).

I've got the idea it's problem with 25Hz pal and fglrx wich sets the
video-card to 60Hz, but i'm not sure. I'm not able to use the bob
deinterlace filter either, that looks like 1 frame is stuck and mixed
with the video.

I've got no idea if it helps to capture the pal stream with 30fps
framerate (to match the 60Hz output). But well let's try that ;-)

Hi, I gave up on bob after reading that it ONLY works with a 50 (or
perhaps 100 Hz) refresh rate. The closest my flatpanel will go is 75,
 and
I can confirm that that doesn't work. So I think 60 is most probably out
 too.

Hmm 'glad' to read that i'm probably looking in the right direction.

I'm also having frame dropping issues, someone posted that it is a
 problem
with myth at the moment (don't know what you built from). It's evidently
expected to be fixed soon in svn. You might also like to check whether
your running the frontend in realtime priority.

That would mean there are frames dropped? Hmm I thouth it just looked
that way becouse of the 50 - 60Hz deinterlacing problems.
By the way, I have set /usr/local/bin/mythfrontend and
/user/local/bin/mythtv to Suid root, but I keep getting :
2005-12-22 22:00:02.096 Realtime priority would require SUID as root.
in my logfile, any idea's about that?

Noticed that too, but haven't got around to finding a workaround yet. The
problem is also there using the preferred (non-suid) method in the
official howto. Could it be a bug in svn??

Ooops! Almost forgot! I had some trouble compiling the 0.3.8 ivtv

(from .deb) on kernel 2.6.14. Had to change a few lines of code to get

That might be a good reason to go for 0.4.x

I looks like there are no technical problems with the 0.4.0 version. Or
better, these are the only drivers i've used so far.

Hi,

Pretty sure. There was a BIG difference between 0.5.1 / the firmware from
the ivtv website link, and 0.3.8 and the firmware from my CD (sorry, I'm
at a different box so no md5's this time). I'm not sure that the coax
connector on the back of the pvr-500 is optimal (feels a litle loose), so
I may be losing some signal there, but I do remember things being much
better, and quite acceptable back in the 0.3.7 days. Trouble is live TV
from Myth has been broken since I rolled back ivtv and I haven't had time
to fix it (probably won't until after Christmas). So I can only see the
results from MPlayer. I might try different firmware and/or 0.4.(1) if I
get a chance.

What kind of problems are you having?

[mythtv-users] recommended ivtv and firmaware versions for PVR-500

2005-12-19 Thread Marius Schrecker
Hi,

Now that sound is (kinda) working I can devote myself to fixing the
terrible quality from my PVR-500.
I'm currently using 0.5.1 with the following firmware:

5f5fa240ada73c3565f5f7de4c7b5138 /lib/firmware/HcwFalcn.rom
symlinked to v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw

3a4803384f749d644ee1f1ca9dcb12fa /lib/firmware/HcwMakoA.ROM
symlinked to v4l-cx25840.fw

The tuning woes thread suggests that iovtv 0.3.8 is the most
trouble-free version and as I had good results with 0.3.7 I'm considering
trying this first and using the firmware from the cd (as before).

Only problem I can think of is that the 0.5.1 stuff included a rebuild of
v4l, so presumably I need to recompile all my v4l stuff from the vanilla
kernel source before I can use older ivtv drivers. Is this true?

Any better suggestions for PAL cards?

Cheers
