Adjust the overscan setings for your video card (for Nvidia cards).

Funny...I kinda thought it would work without being in a window and
hiding the edges...what was I thinking.

For my 32" I used:
Horiz 648
Vert  432
X offset 38
Y offset 24

Utilities/Setup --> Appearance --> 

For my 27" I use 
horizontal 632 
vertical 440 
X offset 22
Y offset 41

I needed to run the frontend in the GUI to get
everything to fit.  You may not need to do so.  Then
exit.  Then tweak the numbers as needed.


I think you can also play with xorg.conf but nothing I
did seem to work for me.

My offsets do not seem to work. Only the resizing seems to be reflected
on the screen.

I think more info is needed about your setup.  What kind of video card are
you using?  Are you using XvMC, proprietary drivers, etc?
