Not 100% sure about this one but generally you need to set up a network
share on your frontend that points back to your backend machine's video
directory so that the files are available locally.
Within MythTV itself, no sharing is required as files are made
available internally. Creating a network share _is_ required for
external media such as music and videos to be played back through
MythMusic and MythVideo.
