RE: [mythtv-users] Sell Me On a Remote / IR Receiver

2005-12-14 Thread Weston, Toby
I have a couple of spare receivers (I use a homebrew serial receiver), 2
from a Nova-T and one from a PVR-250. I'm pretty sure they're the same, drop
me a line off-list and I'll pop one in the post if you'd like to experiment.
Come to think of it, I should have the remotes too (I use a TiVO remote)...

with dual 1.0GHz Tualatins. My TV receiver is the Hauppauge PVR-350.
So far, it's all running satisfactorily. However, as I bought the
PVR-350 on eBay, the seller neglected to include the remote or the IR
 receiver.

So, I'm in the market for one. This box is a christmas gift for my

the IR and remote to be (a) easy to set up for me and (b) easy to use
 for her.

I'm open to just about anything since it's for the Mrs.

 thanks all!

I have one spare receiver, and two Hauppage remotes as well, if needed.

As an alternative, for my second front end, I have a DirecTV RC-23
remote and a serial IR receiver, and it works great! It has tons of
buttons, it didn't take long at all to get it setup, and I think my
total cost was under $50.

I think you can get the original IR receiver and remote directly from
Hauppauge.. That is if the card has the plug for it. The remote is available
on their web-store, but you might have to call them to get a replacement
receiver.

This is the one I'm using..

http://registration.hauppauge.com/webstore/hardware1.asp#remote

It has enough buttons without being too complex. It works VERY well and is
pretty easy to set up. (translation: A pretty good WAF score)

I'll second that - the version I have has buttons labeled just for
jump-points :-)
MyPictures
LiveTV
RecordedTV
MyMusic
etc
etc

It came with a pvr-150mce retail (which seems to be different here in NZ
to most places!!)

RE: [mythtv-users] Sell Me On a Remote / IR Receiver

2005-12-13 Thread Peter Darley
Hi,
I've had really good luck with an IR keyboard and a learning remote.
The
IR keyboard is nice to stick in a drawer for when you want to do searches
etc. with it. Plus, since it acts as a ps/2 keyboard (usb ones are
available), there's no fussing with lirc, which I found a bit painful.
I ended up with the cheapest keyboard from Fentek, and I'm using a
Pronto
remote that I've had for quite a while.
Thanks,
Peter Darley
