Re: [mythtv-users] Have Lirc IR Blaster, now All I need is help making a lirc.conf...
I can't say with 100% accuracy your setup is just missing the correct config as I have seen people have other issues (mainly related to trying the latest kernel out of cvs along with the latest lirc version out of cvs and getting warnings about timing parameters which they then ignored) But, most likely your problem is your config file or your possitioning of the device in respect to your box. Do you have the device extremely close to the IR receiver of your cable box? (See picture on www.irblaster.info ) The only way for you to record a config is to build or buy an ir receiver that works with lirc. You shouldn't have to do this though because you are not the only person on this list and the lirc list using an SA3200. STEPHEN WANAMAKER wrote: As recommended, I tried executing the channel change script while holding the other end of the IR blaster to a camera to ensure that the blaster was attempting to flash the signals. This was sucessful and I was able to see it attempt to flash the signals. So at this point I am assuming that the lirc setup is 100% working, and I am just missing the correct lirc.conf for my settop box. Would you say that is accurate? If no config exists for the SA 3200, is there no way to generate one? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Have Lirc IR Blaster, now All I need is help making a lirc.conf...
Hello, Thanks to everyone's great advice, I was able to get it working. Using the advice of aiming the device into my digital camera I was able to see that it was working. I tried varying the distace from the unit but to no avail. Lastly I tried the only other Scientific Atlanta Lirc config I could find, the one for the 8000 model (SAE8000), and this was the one that finally worked for me. Thanks to everyone who helped me out and a big thanks to Andy for making up that page, it made the setup process (if you have the right config) fast and flawless. You need to use irrecord to record your cable box's remote signals. Also, there are several preconfigured codes that can be found on LIRC's website. For your case, go get one of the files from http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/scientific_atlanta/ and copy and paste it into your lircd.conf file. -Khanh From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Damon Wanamaker Sent: Saturday, January 29, 2005 11:30 AM To: mythtv-users@mythtv.org Subject: [mythtv-users] Have Lirc IR Blaster, now All I need is help making a lirc.conf... Hello Everyone, I have a fully functional Mythbox up and running using FC3 (thanks to Jarod's guide). This installation is working flawlessly for my regular cable needs, so I thought now would be a perfect time to try and get the digital cable working as well. Currently I am using the Hauppage 350 remote for myth and have the following Lirc files installed: lirc-0.7.0-43.1.rhfc3.at lirc-lib-0.7.0-43.1.rhfc3.at lirc-kmdl-2.6.9-1.724_FC3-0.7.0-43.1.rhfc3.at lirc-devices-0.7.0-1.rhfc3.at lirc-lib-devel-0.7.0-43.1.rhfc3.at I have been using the fantastic guide created by Andy (http://comp.uark.edu/~aslong/mythtv.html http://comp.uark.edu/%7Easlong/mythtv.html ) I purchased a Serial IR Blaster at www.irblaster.info http://www.irblaster.info/ (Great quality, fast and friendly service) I get to the end of the guide and I am not able to change channels on my Scientific Atlanta 3200 Digital Cable box when using the changechannel script. I am sure this is because I was using the config for the SA 2000 as it was the only one available on the lirc.org site. My question(s): - Is there a way I can use irrecord to learn the SA 3200 remote codes and make my own lirc.conf? - Will the IR Blaster I purchased work on any Digital box or do you need to make sure you purchase an IR blaster that is known to work with your digital cable box in particular? - Anyone have a pre-made lirc.conf for the SA3200 (wishful thinking)? You have all been a great help in the past and I am hoping that you can assist me... (Let me know if you need hardware types/configs/output) Thanks in advance, Damon. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

The dilemma is there is no config for my SA 3000 at http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/scientific_atlanta/ And I don't know how to use irrecord. I also wasn't sure if I could use Irrecord given my hardware. Can anyone help with the syntax/setup I should use? Re: [mythtv-users] Have Lirc IR Blaster, now All I need is help making a lirc.conf...
you can't use irrecord with your ir blaster - it is not a receiver. However, it looks like people on this list have reported the explorer 2000 remote file which is on the lirc page works fine with the 3200. Have you tried that file? Have you verified you have light coming out of your IR Blaster? An easy way to do this is with a digital camera or webcam. Hold the short end of the ir emitting unit opposite the end that the cable is entering close to the camera lens and you should see the light on the camera screen when you execute the change channel script. Damon, Can you post the contents of the following files for me: /etc/modules.conf /etc/lircd.conf /etc/rc.d/rc.local your change_chan.sh script (you may just want to backchanell me when you send those files...I'm not really sure what the etiquette would be concerning posting them for the whole list at this point... it's andymyth !at! gmail.com) I'd give the digital camera trick a shot, but the irblaster I bought never actually made light that the camera picked up (though every single other remote I own did). Actually frustrated me for a bit until i figured out that my camera just wasn't picking up on it.
