I am having the same problem and it was not fixed by your suggestion. I did
the usual depmod -a and then probed for those devices and they were found.
At least it did not give any errors. However when I try to set up the
capture card (pvr-250) there are still no audio devices shown. The card will
capture video just fine in myth and works perfectly with "mplayer
/dev/video0"

Any other suggestions?

I dont know if it matters but I am also having problems loading ivtv at boot
time. I always have to modprobe for it as well. Does this sound familiar?

Bill

I'm guessing your oss-compat modules might not be getting loaded. /dev/dsp is
an oss interface, which doesn't exist on a udev/alsa system unless the
oss-compat modules are loaded.

Re: [mythtv-users] No Sound in Just MythTV+ALSA help needed

Red means recording enabled. Green means playback enabled. So you need
'Capture' enabled and 'Line in' too. Maybe you have a card with other
connections than mine, but go and try. If you use oss, this should be enough,
but if you use alsa, you need to have it properly confgured.

Next is my /etc/asound.conf file. CAUTION: This file works for me but only
works the dmixed output. I'm still trying to make it work for dsnooped input
or whatever, but it doesn't work yet. I'd like some help with this. Now, the
file:

# Set default sound card
# Useful so that all settings can be changed to a different card here.
pcm.snd_card {
 type hw
 card 1
}

# Allow mixing of multiple output streams to this device
pcm.dmix {
 type dmix
 ipc_key 1024
 slave.pcm "snd_card"
 slave {
  # This stuff provides some fixes for latency issues.
  # buffer_size should be set for your audio chipset.
  period_time 0
  period_size 1024
  buffer_size 8192
 }

 bindings {
  0 0
  1 1
 }
}
# Allow reading from the default device.
# Also known as record or capture.
pcm.dsnoop {
 type dsnoop
 ipc_key 2048
 slave.pcm "snd_card"

 bindings {
  0 0
  1 1
 }
}

# This is what we want as our default device
# a fully duplex (read/write) audio device.
pcm.duplex {
 type asym
 playback.pcm "dmix"
 capture.pcm "dsnoop"
}

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "duplex"
}
###
# CONVERSION PLUG #
###
# Setting the default pcm device allows the conversion
# rate to be selected on the fly.
# duplex mode allows any alsa enabled app to read/write
# to the dmix plug (Fixes a problem with wine).
pcm.!default {
 type plug
 slave.pcm "duplex"
}

# Apparently this is wrong (breaks mplayer for me opening the device)
#ctl.!default {
# type plug
# slave.pcm "snd_card"
#}
---

I found it in internet and used it.

LiveTv is recorded tv too. You record it and play 1-2 seconds before. This is
how you are able to pause it.

Hi.
I think there must be some problem with recording and the mixer. TV sound
playback is enabled, but recording isn't. So you can listen to live tv, but
not recorded tv. Make sure that recording is on for line in (or tv card)
