Might be your receiver if you can see the output. Steven Yay! Got it working now, the 'Analog to IEC958 Output' should have been off. I did try that one at one point but then testing it with aplay -D spdif file.wav didn't work. As it turn out aplay file.wav (without the -D spdif) worked perfectly.
