Though, it's really 'time-compression'. This allows the user to adjust the playback speed slightly, but keeps the audio at the same pitch. If you're recording a lot of shows, timestretch lets you get through them faster. =) >From the unofficial wiki: New Feature (libsoundtouch) * A new library has been integrated which allows the playback speed to be increased or decreased without causing a pitch shift. This allows folks short on time to increase the playback speed to something like 1.5x and finish a show quicker, without feeling like they're listening to the chipmunks. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] timestretch results in chipmunk sound
I don't see how on earth that's possible. to stretch audio like that you have to cut time out instead of playing it faster. And with slowing it down you have to extrapolate and add extra time in to make it slower. To do that I'm pretty sure you'd need to demux the mpeg and alter just the audio while playing the video at an altered speed. I think the audio stays muxed right in when you use the PVR-350 as input and output. am I right in thinking that? I forget where, but i have seen it there. I actually leave it on as it is accurate to my reflexes. I am interested in how you have it set up for time stretch with a PVR-350 and no chipmunks? I had it working fine under FC1 but not under FC2. Can you tell me your set-up, and maybe clue me into what to do? I love that feature, but it was a tease to have it working for only a week. -- Email me if you want a gmail account, I have invites. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] timestretch results in chipmunk sound
Time stretch works in very weird ways on my system (with a PVR-350) - If I pick 0.5X it works fine (usually). If I pick anywhere between 0.5X and 1.0X, it goes exactly 1X - If I pick 1.05X or anything faster, it goes REALLY fast. The jump between 1.00X and 1.05X is WAY more than that percentage. - Changing between 1.05X and 2.00X does change speed faster and slower, but only slightly. I did the math out and found that a 30s commercial takes 20s on 1.05X (so a calculated 1.5X). 2X might be pretty close to 2x, but it was hard to guage that one. Another bug I noticed is that if time stretch is on and you skip around, when it resumes, it plays at 1x, but the setting in the time stretch remains at whatever value was previously selected (so for example, run it at 1.2x, hit a skip, then it starts playing at 1x, but the checkbox will still be next to 1.2x) I love that feature and the fastforward feature, however, much nicer than the skip! (especially how the extreme fast forward skips back a little automatically when you stop it, assuming that the human reflex is slower than needed to stop fast forwarding when needed) - Jeff On Mon, 28 Feb 2005 17:29:40 -0400, stephen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Thom Paine wrote: > > > On Mon, 28 Feb 2005 11:47:37 -0500, Nicholas McCoy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > wrote: > > > >>I've got the same problem, except that I never got it to work before. > >>I have a pvr-350 and I'm using knoppmyth. Are you using the video out from the 350? Has anyone else gotten this to work with the video out from the 350? I have this working with a 350, but I also have the chipmunks. I thought that was the way it worked. I tried it on 1.2x. I've also got the chipmunk thing on my 350. However, when using timestrech on my backend, the audio doesn't change to a higher pitch (hooked up to a montior via video card, no need for a tv-out or re-routing of the sound). Re: [mythtv-users] timestretch results in chipmunk sound
One more follow up. I notice that there is no libsoundtouch file on my system. Is this built into myth or do I need to get it to make timestretch working? I just find it odd that it did work at one point but doesn't now. Also, when I set the time stretch for 1.5x, I get the chipmunk effect (as earlier reported), but if I skip ahead, the voice goes back to normal. Unfortunately, so does the video speed (I believe). ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I am using the 350 for video and sound. The sound is piped into my sound card which outputs to my tv/stereo. It had worked before the upgrade. It is possible that I somehow screwed up ALSA in the upgrade, although, my sound playback is fine. This is not a major issue for me as I hardly use the timestretch, but I would like to use it for certain shows. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I've got the same problem, except that I never got it to work before. I have a pvr-350 and I'm using knoppmyth.
