Tuner will only record one channel (was Re: [mythtv-users] Re: No sound after apt-get upgrade)
Adding alias msp3400 msp3400-ivtv to my /etc/modules.conf now seems to give me sound all the time, so I'm almost back to a perfect state for my system. The only problem I have left is that no matter what channel I set the system to record, it only records channel 51. I've tried several different channels now, and no matter what, it's always the same channel. Any thoughts? I haven't had a chance to try the msp3400-ivtv fix yet, but I will post after I have a chance to do that. One strange thing I've noticed though...since upgrading, all the test recordings I've done have recorded channel 51, no matter what channel I'm trying to record. This also seems to have started with my upgrade last night. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Andy I realize this probably isn't the right list for this now, but after more digging around with the system today, it appears that my whole install is pretty screwed up. The hat menu doesn't have any entries in it, and kcontrol has nothing in it for me to modify. I'm not sure what happened, but I'd be happy to post any logs or send this to a different list if someone could just point me in the right direction!! Thanks, Andy This sounds a lot like some of the problems I've had. The KDE menus came back on their own after a restart, so I have no idea if I actually had to do something to fix them. The no-sound issue turned out to be that the new ivtv driver needs a special version of the msp3400 driver named msp3400-ivtv. Put: alias msp3400 msp3400-ivtv in your modules.conf and check the logs for 'msp34xx: ivtv version'. (I can't access my mythtv box right now, so I can't check for the exact message.) Oh wait, I just noticed that you said that even old recording has no sound. You probably have some other sound problem then -- I was getting some recordings with sound and some without. Hmm... I guess I don't have anything helpful to add afterall. Sorry about that. But you'll need that alias thing once you get your other problems figured out. Re: Tuner will only record one channel (was Re: [mythtv-users] Re: No sound after apt-get upgrade)
I think I've tracked this down, but if anybody can confirm that my theory is right, or have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. This afternoon, while I was busy trying to get my sound working, I rebooted my computer while my wife had a show scheduled to record. That show was on channel 51. This evening, trying to track down the problem, I switched the priorities between my two cards, forcing myth to record off of card 0, instead of 1. When it is recording off card 0, live tv is playing through card 1. In live tv on card 1, when I change the channel, I still only see what is on channel 51. Is my tuner card broken? Or could something else be causing this? Re: Tuner will only record one channel (was Re: [mythtv-users] Re: No sound after apt-get upgrade)
You need to add the following to /etc/modprobe.conf: alias tveeprom tveeprom-ivtv If you look at your dmesg between the IVTV lines, you would probably see something like Error -19 or module tveeprom not found. It worked...now the only problems left are nuisances, not stopping me from using the system.
