Hi Marc,

I checked the permissions, but could not find anything wrong. My
archives directory, and the files in it have the same permissions as the
current nagios.log

But even if it was a permissions problem, my guess would be that firefox
wouldn't work either ?

Thanks,

Short answer not unles you use nagios 3 which is in alpha. Longer answer

This is expected for nagios-3.0 but not available with the current
version.

Re: [Nagios-users] libMYSQL

2006-09-03 Thread Richard Galvez
In that case, I would use pkgsrc to install the mysql libs that are
needed. That should attempt to resolve any dependencies that you have to
fulfill in order to compile nagios*. From the looks of your issue, I
would say that the most probable case is missing developer libraries
that you may not have installed on your system.

[Nagios-users] libMYSQL

2006-09-03 Thread Robin-David Hammond%KB3IEN

Im trying to compile the plugins including the mysql client one

REQUIREMENTS tell me that i need

check_mysql:
 - Requires the MySQL libraries available from
   http://www.mysql.org
 Lib: libmysql, libmysqlclient
 Redhat Powertools Source: mysql-3.20.32a-3.i386.rpm,
mysql-devel-3.20.32a-3.i386.rpm (these seem to be broken, however)
 RPMS from www.mysql.org work better

bash-3.1# pkg_info |grep sql
mysql-client-5.0.22 MySQL 5, a free SQL database (client)
mysql-server-5.0.22nb1 MySQL 5, a free SQL database (server)

I have :
bash-3.1# locate libmysql
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.a
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.la
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.15
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.so.15.0.0
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.a
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.la
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so.15
/usr/local/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient_r.so.15.0.0

Do i need another pkg?

[Nagios-users] mount.h revisited.

2006-09-03 Thread Robin-David Hammond%KB3IEN

I have determined that the mount.h being read is /usr/include/sys/mount.h

The problem is that NGROUP is not defined. This is because configure
failed to include wait.h

as a temporary patch i added this to mount.h.

// added rdh
#ifndef _SYS_WAIT_H_
#include
// /added rdh

now instead of these earlier errors:

configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: check for missing prerequisite headers?
configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: see the Autoconf documentation
configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: section "Present But Cannot Be Compiled"
configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: proceeding with the preprocessor's result
configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: in the future, the compiler will take
precedence

configure: WARNING: ## - ##
configure: WARNING: ## Report this to the nagios-plugins lists. ##
configure: WARNING: ## - ##

i get these even less useful error:

checking sys/mount.h usability... no
checking sys/mount.h presence... no
checking for sys/mount.h... no
...
checking for sys/mount.h... (cached) no

Why would configure fail to see mount.h now?

ls -lu /usr/include/sys/mount.h
-r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 14520 Sep 3 17:51 mount.h

seems that mount.h is still readable, and still being read, because
re-running configure increases the last-read date.

this much didn't change:

Yes I installed in debian as well, and there is a Readme.DEBIAN

that must me implemented in order for the cgi's (web interface) to work.
I believe, but am not completely sure that the file is
in /usr/share/doc/nagios.

configure+make failed.

configure succeeded, but generated this warning:

configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: check for missing prerequisite
headers?

configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: see the Autoconf documentation

configure: WARNING: sys/mount.h: in the future, the compiler will take
precedence

configure: WARNING: ## - ##
configure: WARNING: ## Report this to the nagios-plugins lists. ##

there is no sys/mount.h in the tarball, so I assume that this is a
reference to one of the following:

/usr/include/sys/mount.h
/usr/src/sys/compat/sys/mount.h
/usr/src/sys/sys/mount.h

As best I can tell this is an autoconf snafu, and I am looking for a line
like the following in the configure scripts:

AC_CHECK_HEADERS

but haven't found it yet.

What you're trying to do just isn't possible with the current Nagios
version. However, it seems it would only be slightly less cumbersome, if
it all, to have a service definition template set up so that when a new
host is set up, you'd just have to add the following:

define service {
host_name new_host
check_command check_virtual_host!www.yahoo.com
}

Sure, it's not a one-liner, but it's not far from it.

[Nagios-users] Problem with nagios and Debian

2006-09-03 Thread WrackWeb - Jean Respen
Hi all,

I've installed nagios via apt-get. so nagios-text is installed.

I just have a little problem of right permission. If I run my apache2
with the www-data user, the web interface of nagios tell me that no
nagios process is runing, but if i run apache2 with the nagios user,
everything is fine... Do you know why? (i have to stay with the www-data
for other reason, so i have to find a fix for this problem)

Thanks,

Use the Source Luke.

But in the real world the equasion 1 host = 1 service is almost never
valid. After all there are disk involved, perhaps a database and it is
quite likely you want some means of maintaining them which could mean ssh,
.

I think you are focussed to much on this host thing. If a normal
check_http does not work in a host definition then the website has host
restrictions. And so you have cut loose the 1on1 link between hardware and
services before you even went to look with nagios.

Yeah, I follow you, but the issue is that I'm the user, and I care for
the websites that I know are consistent with each machine. If that site
goes down, then so did the machine.. That's my reason behind it. Thanks
for your help though, all of you, I don't want to seem as if I'm not
appreciative. I was thinking, however, in the address of the host
definition I just add the domain (www.yahoo.com) that path should
resolve to the same machine every time. I'm not sure if this is still
the solution I seek. The solution I really am seeking is to add another
variable to the host definition. That would be completely, absolutely,
ideal. It will also allow me to add other information to the hosts in
the future. Any ideas as to how to add custom directives to the host
definition block?
