Re: [Nagios-users] check_route or equivalent?

2006-09-22 Thread Robin-David Hammond%KB3IEN

looking at my ping'(ipv4)s man page using -g and the IP of the secondary
gateway would work.

using ipv6 i tend to run one rtsold advertisement for each pipe for each
gateway. Thus a host on a network that is comprised of two interconnected
routers with independent access to two shared pipes would have at /least/
4 IPs, thus src address alone is sufficient in the ip6 world!

('local'* services are by fe80:: or rfc 4193 addressing depending upon
segmentation).

Hi there, I've been playing with nagios as a replacement/augmentation
for BigBrother, which I'm currently using, which allows a weekly
availability report to be sent to a specified email address. Is this
functionality readily available in Nagios? I'm familiar with the
availability reports available on nagios's pages, but is there an easy

email? I could make a cron job to run avail.cgi and send the output,

As a guess I would say that /bin/ping is not executable as the nagios
user. Try it as you see it above. If you can't run it, 'chmod u+s
/bin/ping'

If you haven't modified the source code then it would appear that your
firefox is borked. I use FF exclusively and have never seen that problem
nor have I seen anyone else report it. All links have a target of
'main'. If you view source on the page, or look at
~nagios/share/index.html, you should see the frameset and a line that
looks like --

The FRAME NAME defines the frame window that the links will use and must
match the 'target=' used for each link. If it's not 'main' (or at least
the same) then FF will either open a new window or replace the current
window.

Sound like you want the omelet without breaking the eggshells.

I think you need to handle this with routing. So I suggest you sacrify
some subnet you do not want to reach normally and send that network out
via the other link. (Say: 207.68.128.0/18 ;-)

And just for good measures. If it is the backup link. How will you do the
failover? (Not that is has anything to do with Nagios.)

It might be worthwhile digging into the source based routing option of
your network equipment.

Hugo.

[Nagios-users] check_route or equivalent?

2006-09-22 Thread Hari Sekhon
I've got a second firewall connected to an adsl modem as a backup and I
want to be able to monitor that the second line is actually working and
routing properly to the internet.

What I would like to do is to send a traceroute to www.google.com but
send it via the ip of the backup firewall instead of the default gateway.

I just want to check ping using this ip as my local gateway instead of
the usual default gateway.

Does anybody know of a plugin to do this or have any idea how I can send
this ping without changing my routing on the nagios host server?

define serviceescalation {host_name *service_description      *first_notification  3last_notification   0notification_interval   15contact_groups  Tier2}

Hi list,

we use nagios 2.4 and have problems with hangs after

We use these configs:

This is nagios –s output:

Re: [Nagios-users] Externals Commands

2006-09-22 Thread Hari Sekhon

Just for reference and closure on this, there was nothing wrong with my
setup really. I have noticed a couple of quirks though which I should
point out.

The nagios_check_command I specified in cgi.cfg never worked, despite
the fact that it works perfectly from the command line of the nagios
user (in fact I put it in a script and use it outside of nagios fine) .
For reference see
https://sourceforge.net/search/?ml_name=nagios-users&type_of_search=mlists&group_id=26589&words=nagios+process+not+running+it+is+running

Once I commented out the nagios_check_command, I could add comments,
but I still could not schedule downtime.

I have also found that when scheduling downtime, if I put the name of
the host in lower case instead of Capitalized as I have defined it,
then I get the error regarding you are not authorized etc... even
though my nagiosadmin user is authorized for everything everywhere.
Therefore the downtime scheduling is case sensitive for hostname.

So really this whole problem was nothing to do with permissions or
authorisation.

you can use .htaccess or the httpd.conf file it doesn't matter. If you

But using .htaccess means you don't have to do that and can simply add
this file into the locations required with immediate effect.

  Also,
htpasswd(2) does as you say come with apache but it has been known to
be included with Nagios!

  The
.htaccess is only required if you don't have root access to the server
& thus can't add it to the main httpd.conf. If you have root
access, its almost always better to add it there. In that case you
would have no .htaccess file, it would all be in the server config.

  ok -
somewhere in the nagios docs are the details with regard to setting up
.htaccess but

  I think
there is a utility in the nagios install directory under bin called
htpasswd or htpasswd2 and you run this util to generate a
htpasswd.users file where

  all the
users that have web interface access are stored including nagiosadmin.
I store mine in the etc install directory.

  Then in my
.htaccess file i have the following

  AuthName
"Nagios Access"
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /usr/local/nagios/etc/htpasswd.users
require valid-user

  This file
resides in the sbin directory (which is also cgi-bin). Note though -

I wrote a perl script to send the emails. It's a direct replacement and
can be dropped in to your configuration in place.

If that's the case you could always either hard-code the necessary
arguments in the check command - thereby possibly creating a large
number of similar host check commands - or using a wrapper script around
the actual check command. You could set up any additional arguments
depending on the host name or address, for example.

That's a misconfiguration then :-)
Hosts are only checked when they have a service problem. So: No services
means no host checks.

But why not simply add a service check doing what you now want to put
into the host check? You could even simplify the host check to something
like 'check_dummy 1 "Unknown switch state"' if you want to...

Yup, many ;-)
