Ive just installed NGL 1.0.2 on my server running Nagios 2.7.

When hitting the NGL server location in my browser I get an error
"Could not sync all required files with the server." Im pretty sure
all
permissions and file locations are correct. NGL is installed in the
share area of Nagios atm. Can someone give me a bit of insight into
what the problem could be ?

Don't see why not, it's *nix.
Just make sure that you have the requirements fulfilled.

FYI

If you are using Exim as your MTA like me, you need to set your Nagios user
as a "trusted user" - then as long as you have a "From:" header in your
e-mail, Exim will send the e-mail out as if it came from that address.

If Nagios isn't a trusted user, the e-mail will look to have come from
"nagios@."

Well, I did actually say more than that:|

You still seem to be missing the mysql source files, especially
[/usr/include/]mysql/errmsg.h and [/usr/include/]mysql/mysql.h.
It's either that or, if your mysql source files are in place,
you have to tell the plugin build were they are by means
of the configure option "--with-mysql", in case they are
in a nonstandard place. If you have a look at the configure
option --with-mysql, try "./configure --help", you'll see
that the --with-mysql is looking for the location of the file
mysql_config, which is part of the mysql-devel rpm package,
and therefore part of the source code. So, if you've installed
your mysql source code into /usr/local for example, the proper
configure statement would be "./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local"

It would help, and make it easier to help you, if you told us some
details about your environment, such as OS, distro, version, etc.

For example, on a SuSE Linux 10.2 box with the mysql-devel rpm
package installed, the plugins builds nicely.

Also, since it's the continuation of the same problem,
you might want to stay within the original thread.

Good Luck

[Nagios-users] Nagios and DST changes

2007-02-07 Thread Andrew Laden
Heya all.

With the Daylight savings time change changing this year in the US,
management is going through a y2k style check of all our applications to
make sure that they wont have any issues when DST occurs in the middle
of march rather then the end.

I think that Nagios stores all its date info in seconds from Unix Epoch,
so the timezone should not affect anything (assuming that the underlying
OS has been patched with the new TZ info.

Can anyone thing of anywhere in Nagios that might break with the Time
zone change?

Thanks

Please let me know why i am getting Connection refused and showing the

Hi,

a) can be handled by check_tcp or check_http (fyi - I can't use
check_http -S for tomcat 4; I think it's a problem w/ the SSL
implementation on the older tomcats)

b) memory/CPU can be handled by either SNMP or, if running on Windows,
by using nsclient

c) not sure on this one, but maybe someone else has ideas. I don't know
where these numbers would exist.

Good luck,

You can set your hostname on the machine, so it's a valid FQDN. Or you
can re-write the address as it goes out. I don't know what you're
using, but it's pretty easy to do in Postfix:

Unless totally misunderstand the issue this is more of a MTA
configuration issue than a Nagios issue.

Assuming sendmail for a moment is the MTA on the machine that you are
sending the pages from there is a setting in the sendmail.cf file called
"Masquerading as" that you can set to a domain to masquerade all email
addresses to. So, in the case of your return email address that I note
above you would set the line that starts with

DM

in sendmail.cf to read

DMmintcommerce.com

and restart sendmail. This way any email that gets sent from that
machine gets its return address re-written to be
which will silence the complaint from the blackberry server.

If you are using some other MTA then you have to follow suit with
whatever the configuration requirements are for that MTA.

[Nagios-users] Sending as specific email address

2007-02-07 Thread Jason Little
Yesterday the blackberry servers stopped accepting all my nagios alerts
because nagios sends out as and the blackberry
servers complain that servername.domainname does not exist and gives me a
data format error. Is there a way to set it so that nagios sends out as a
specific email address?

No, the plugin will POP the account you specify to see if the messages
arrived.

I see that the plugin doesn't support SMTP Auth. Looking at
http://search.cpan.org/~gbarr/libnet-1.20/Net/SMTP.pm, at first glance
it would seem to be pretty straightforward to add a
$smtp->auth(,) to the script around line 125 to
support that. An attempted patch is attached. I don't have access to an
SMTP Auth server to test so YMMV.

[Nagios-users] best graph solution

2007-02-07 Thread Lars Stavholm
Hi List,

I'm looking for the best graphing addon solution available for nagios.

There's quite a lot of them. I've tried PNP, and it looked fine,
ut lacked NagiosGrapher's configuration capabilities, on the other
hand, I haven't yet got a working NagiosGrapher installation,
still struggling:). I haven't yet tried any of the other solutions.

So, any advice highly appreciated.

I know it might be a subjective view, but still,
I'd like to know what you all use out there.

Cheers
/Lars

You're most likely using invalid macros. Have you verified that you're
using the ones you think you are? If you've verified them as correct,
post your notification command.

Hi

its pretty simple solution without perl script. create a

service called NRPE
and enter the following check_command
command_name nrpe_version
command_line ./check_nrpe -H 212.150.36.20

when running this command against NRPE daemon you should get

response "NRPE v2.0"

now create your dependencies that this NRPE is the master

server and the other dependent on it.

Yes, that's what I've done, but how do you do it by simply
defining one dependency to do the same thing across multiple servers?
If I use wildcards in the dependency, it makes every NRPE client
service depend on every other NRPE server in the network, not just
the server that service instance runs on.
