[Nagios-users] too many Notifications

2007-07-04 Thread Lalita Drolia
Hi,

I know already a lot has been discussed on the notifications topic but I
am sorry I still want to ask this.

I would like to receive only one notification when a host goes down and
one when it comes up, even if there maybe a gap of days in between.

I have read about the concept of escalations but I am not sure if it
will solve the purpose.

Can you please suggest me how we can do this.

Thank you in advance.

Lalita.

Re: [Nagios-users] best place to put NSClient++ on a Windows server?

2007-07-04 Thread Steve Shipway
When you run the /install option, this configures a Windows service
which points at the nsclient++.exe executable. After you run this, you
cannot move the .exe file, else the service will not be able to start!

Here, I have made a windows install package, which installs the stuff
into C:\program files\monitoring and then automatically calls the
/install option to register the service. The install pack also installs
the other monitoring agents where required (eg, the nageventlog agent).

Subject: [Nagios-users] best place to put NSClient++ on a Windows
server?

I recently downloaded the NSClient++ plugin so that I could monitor my
NT servers using Nagios.

In the instructions ( http://trac.nakednuns.org/nscp/wiki/Documentation
 ), it says to
install it via the command line ("nsclient++.exe /install"). I do that,
it says that it's finished, so I'm assuming that the NSC.ini file I have
to edit is the one I have in my c:\temp\ dir.

Any suggestions on where the best place to put this is on a Windows
server?

ganglia: more or less zero configuration,
 default checks geared towards clusters/grids.
nagios: vast configuration options,
create your own checks in addition to the default set.

Deploying a cluster monitoring solution is far less work with
ganglia. However, adding your own checks seems to require that
you fiddle with the C code yourself.

Or something to that effect.

[Nagios-users] mail alert on nagios

2007-07-04 Thread Harry John

Hi Gentlemen,

i've just installed nagios2.9 on a centos 4.5 and is running fine.
I'am just monitoing ping of some machines and everything goes on very well.

im quite newb to linux and is just few days using it. i wanted to send mail
alerts through my corporate exchange server (relay)
found this link interesting
http://www.nagiosexchange.org/Utilities.16.0.html?&tx_netnagext_pi1[p_view]=698

and i did what it said (proving host,domain...editing commands.cfg and
contacts.cfg)
..but where should I keep my script? it says
*I put this in the nagios plugins directory /usr/local/nagios/libexec but
you can put it anywhere.*
but how will nagios know from where to run the script.
and just giving
*perl **send_mail.pl*
gives
out errors also.

what is the general method to send a mail to your office mail?

i wud also be thankful if you can guide me in configuring NRPE and nsclient
to monitor services in windows servers.

Thanks in advance
Harry

[Nagios-users] nagios vs ganglia

2007-07-04 Thread howard chen
Hello,

I am comparing these two monitoring systems.

My findings is: nagios provides more features than ganglia, but I know
many people use them together.

I don't why, is that some features is missing from nagios?

thanks.

It has it's benefits. That's why it can be enabled and disabled, just
like all the other notification types.

Do you mean service_perfdata_file?

service_perfdata_file=/var/nagios/service-perfdata

[Nagios-users] Check for existing String

2007-07-04 Thread Stütz Thomas
Hello,
im new in this mailing list.

My First Question is.:
I would like to send a String OID in my E-Mail Message.

For example.:
.1.3.6.1.4.1.1.1.3.1.1.3.1 0/1
.1.3.6.1.4.1.1.1.3.1.1.2.1 Text

If the first OID get's 1, then the 2. should be read and included into the
E-Mail/SMS Message.

Is this possible (existing plugin)?
The String OID is normally null, so can i check if it is != null and send the
String in my Message?

Thanks for answer

[Nagios-users] Hosts with one service in error state never get checked - bug?

2007-07-04 Thread Ian Chard
Hi,

I've got a few hosts with just one service each. If the service goes
into a non-OK state, then later the host goes down, when it comes back
up Nagios never checks the host if the service is still not OK. The
host still looks like it's down as far as Nagios is concerned.

Is this a bug?

Thanks for any advice
- Ian
