Hi EveryOne, I would like to ask you about some Nagios Solusion. These Is current configuration: Localisation 1. Server1 ServerA Server2 ServerB Server3 --- Nagios Server --- --- ServerX (NRPE) ---ServerC Server4 ServerD Etc Ath this moment I am pinging all servers from Main Nagios Server and via NRPE on ServerX. Everything seems working fine, but – Servers1..4 – Nagios is seeing as Host (that is right) But serversA..D – For nagios are services belong to ServerX (This is what I don’t want). Do you know how can I make configuration – to working the same way, but all servers behing ServerX should be visible for Nagios as Host not Services? Thank you very much for your help. [Nagios-users] Notification.
Dear Nagios user. I would like to ask you about some Nagios notification configuration. On my Nagios I have two notification, one is via email, and second is via SMS. And now if some problem will appear I have got both alert email and sms, what is correct. But know on my servers some problems Cannot be fixed in 5/10 minutes. (Two servers every day are busy durning the day). And know I’ve got SMS and email any time When this is chcecking – which in my confirmation is every 2 minutes. I would like to ask you that is possible to configure get on SMS when some problem with appear? For example: - everything is OK --- no alerts - I have some problem (but it will take langer to fix that 5 minutes) – I would like to get only one SMS, but I can get a lot of emails - When the problem will be fixed – and for example will appear after two/three hours – I would like to get again only one SMS It is possible? The host_name is used for display/notification purposes and the address is only used behind the scenes for communication. Assign the individual services{} for each host currently defined against serverX to the appropriate new host. Look - I am asking that is possible? Normally when you configure host and service - check_host - nagios is pinging the host. Nagios is pinging the host address, not the host_name. That's an important distinction. But I would like to check all servers behind the NAT (localnetwork) - so it is not possible ping them from outside (second location). So I created serices on Gateway - check_ping and put hardcore configuration in NRPE. This way is fine - but I see all local IP as service from NRPE (ServerX). What do you mean by this last sentence? Where are you seeing this IP? Is your primary concern only the IP that is displayed in the GUI? I took your original e-mail to mean that you want all the services associated with ServerX that are really for ServerA..D to be their own host/services. I still don't see an issue with doing that. While they would all have the correct host names, they'd still need to show the IP for ServerX since it's the only address nagios must know about. But I would like to see it at host. For example: HOST:name.location2 IP: AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD Service: service1 Service: service2 If your concern is that the IP displayed doesn't match the host_name that nagios is checking, proceed as I indicated in my first e-mail, but also create a new check_nrpe command definition that uses a hard coded host_address of serverX to send commands to, ignoring the host address defined in nagios. -- Marc - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Re: [Nagios-users] Two difrent location - one monitoring system.
Thank you very much for explaing some ideas. I know that maybe I don’t understand your idea - I apologies for that. Look: I have local network behind one server which is available to connect from Internet. But behind this server are network devices (NAS, IDS, etc) which communicate each other by local IP addresses. And I maintaining second network. Each of this network doesn't trust each other. And now you have: Nagios Server -- ServerX - (LAN IPs to others network devices). I Configured NRPE on ServerX to hardcore ping local IPs (But I would like to Develop this configuration to checking for example free space on NAS, Network bandwich on NAS, etc, etc). At this moment is working (NAGIOS - Service group): ServerX - Checking services on ServerX - Pinging LOCAL IP1 - Pinging LOCAL IP2 - Pinging LOCAL IP3 So if I add service - check free space - that I will get next service for ServerX But I would like to have: ServerX - Checking services on ServerX Group Local devices on location 2. Server with IP1 - Checking services on Server with IP1 Server with IP2 - Checking services on Server with IP2 Etc. IP1 and IP2 have local IP - not external. The reason to do that. I would like to have only one port opened (NRPE) on one server and checking all HOSTs and SERVICEs behid this server (ServerX). I just like groups and working with them. I am not so familiar with Nagios, this is a beginning of my adventure with this software. So I am asking how (or if) can be done? If yes, please explain me how. If I understood correctly from nagios manual. We have two pings. Service and Host. So I service will fail, and server will be marked as DOWN. The host ping is sending to server (right?). So here I would like to run NRPE command on ServerX (Ping LOCAL IP). If server is back up - the software ping is checking what happen (right?) And here Again I would like to send command to NRPE - ping local IP. Etc. At this moment I can't do (but I don't say that I am right) to make one group from LOCAL IPs behind ServerX and sending everything via NRPE on ServerX I hope that time is clear what I would like to know. [Nagios-users] Two instances of ndo2db running...
I'm having an issue with NDOutils where it starts two instances of ndo2db. I start one manually like the install says, but when I start nagios, a second instance pops up. The strange thing is it didn't do this the first time I started everything up after installing. It wrote to the database and the nagios.log was continualy being updated. But ever since I stopped nagios and ndo2db and tried to start everything up again, it now starts two instances and only writes information to the database on the first connect and then no longer does anything. Using RHEL 5 AP, with Nagios 3.0b6 and NDOUtils 1.47b Here is the successfull connection when I first start it up from nagios.log but after that, nagios.log does not update at all, even though nagios.debug is and the webpage is showing current checks, nothing is being written to the database. Any help/hint appreciated :) None exists today. It should be fairly simple to write a NRPE wrapper around portmaster, however. I believe (but might be wrong) that net-snmp also has the ability to read the FreeBSD package database; you could run a snmpwalk on the target machine and compare that to a master package database. Good luck, and if you implement something be sure to let us know about it. Thanks for your answer Michael. I will see what I can do. If I have found/implemented something useful I will let you know. BTW: Looking forward for your new book coming out these days. Hope it will be released in Europe also on November 14th :) Matthias ==ml - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
