[Nagios-users] Strange return code 255 on Solaris 9

2008-04-14 Thread Peter Michael Calum
Hi

I'm running nagios plugins on a group of solaris 9 machines. I use the
check_by_ssh command to check disk, load ect
on the remote machines. I'm running the same check by ssh command
against a hostgroup of 15 machines, but one of them fails and returns
(Return code of 255 is out of bounds).

If i run the check_disk locally on the machine it works fine, and if i
run it manually from the nagios machine with check_by-ssh it also works
fine, but if nagios runs it it don't work ?? - and all other machines in
the same group works fine - strange

this is run from nagios machine :
/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_by_ssh -H khk23dso3.ip.tdk.dk  -l nagios

You may have to investigate a different method or plugin that is
Windows native. I don't know of one off the top of my head.

SNMP will only allow you to access the total utilization of the drive
(total, free, used, %) as a whole, you cannot monitor subdirectories
with it.

Thanks.

[Nagios-users] SNMP disk checking in Windows NTFS mounted system

2008-04-14 Thread Marcos Marinho

Hello guys,

I am having some dificulties using a nagios 2.10 in a Debian S.O. in
order to checking the free space for a Windows NTFS mounted file system.

I was using check_snmp_storage.pl, check_snmp_disk , check_disk_snmp
both this I obtain through Nagiosechange.

My question is anybody knows a way in order to get this free size
information. All I was receiving was only that the plugin was timeout.

Example:

I had created a mounted file system in  drive f:  called  ADM_PROD on
server Prod1

So using the plugin

/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_snmp_disk -H Prod1 -C
-m d -w 80 -c 90  -f  f::\\ADM_Prod

If I was using the same command with only the drive letter the plugin
had worked just fine.

Best regards

[Nagios-users] Nagios 3 CGI backslash stripping

2008-04-14 Thread Mike Emigh
Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the proper place to report this, but I could
not find a bug tracker associated with Nagios. There appears to be a
problem with the way the CGIs strip backslashes from plugin output.
The code which strips them appears to assume that whenever there is a
backslash, then it is escaping the next character. However, this is
not always the case. For example, backslashes on Windows partitions
consist of a single backslash which shouldn't be removed.

Copy and paste from status.dat:
plugin_output=OK: C:\: Total: 68.2G - Used: 12.6G (18%) - Free: 55.6G (82%)

In order to fix the problem on our install, I've commented out line
787 and replaced it with 788. I've also commented out 789. As far as
I can tell, this change has not had an adverse effect on any other
output.

cgiutils.c:
785 /* unescape backslashes and other stuff */
786  else{
787  /* rawbuf[y++]=rawbuf[x+1]; */
788  rawbuf[y++]=rawbuf[x];
789  /* x++; */
790  }

[Nagios-users] External nagios monitoring

2008-04-14 Thread DAve
Good morning,

We are writing a app for a client that will display Nagios status in a
way that doesn't strike fear into the minds of the PHBs. Currently the
designers have a nice Flash based app with lots of pretty pictures and
dancing monkey icons, all the glitter a CIO could want. I need to stuff
data into a DB for the designer to use for updating the app.

I've looked at event handlers but I am leaning towards using the
notification script to also update the DB. I don't think the event
handler will execute for an acknowledgment correct?

My question, has anyone ever done this? I need to sent very little info,

1) the date
2) the host/service
3) the notification type
4) the admin name/string who acks the notofication

I have access to #1 through #3 for the notification handler obviously, I
don't see where I have access to #4. Will I have to parse the
comments.dat for that information or can I grab that somewhere?

Running Nagios 2.5

Thanks,

DAve

Did configure find it? Look through the configure output to verify. You
might need to specify the path to the openssl installation (./configure

We use 3.0 and do something like that now with a group of "MS Exchange
Servers" that is embedded in the "Windows Servers" groups. That way we just
apply the "exchange_server" template to servers running MS Exchange without
also having to apply the "windows_server" template.

For Kelly's problem, I suppose one could define an "Important" template and
a "Windows" template, and then apply both templates to "important Windows
servers".

Which flavour of linux are you using? If you are using Debian (or
Debian derivatives), you will probably need to install libssl-dev
before you can recompile correctly, just having ssl installed is not
enough.

Kind regards,

You will need the openssl-devel package if you want to compile the plugins
manually.

Is there no plan to allow embedded hostgroups in Nagios?

Once you have this, you would just stick all important windows machines
in the "Important Windows" group and then nest that group in the general
"Important" group to achieve the effect of maintaining those hosts in
only one place, scalable and consistent.

I'm not sure if this is in 3.x or planned, I don't follow the bleeding
development track too closely...

Short of that, write a script to parse and generate another hostgroups
file to achieve the same result and have it automated to create the
Important group from other hostgroups and maintain your hosts in just
those more specific hostgroups.

I did something similar to auto-generate servicegroups for all tests to
allow easily grouping them together, you could do something similar for
hostgroups (my script for servicegroups is released here
http://www.nagiosexchange.org/cgi-bin/pages/Detailed/2435.html)
