[Nagios-users-br] Fwd: Plugin check_ganglia.pl

2008-11-11 Thread Paulo Junior
o Plugin já está na pasta libexec já coloquei o check_command no arquivo
command.cfg
Porém, na pagina que eu havia citado anteriormente, ele só me dá a sintaxe
do define command. Fica faltando a sintaxe do define service que eu não
consegui colocar pra funcionar.
Desde já obrigado.

Pessoal, não sei mais o que fazer, esse plugin está me tirando o sono.
No site do nagios exchange:
http://www.nagiosexchange.org/cgi-bin/page.cgi?g=Detailed%2F1317.html;d=1
existe esse plugin chamado check_ganglia.pl. Porém, ele só me dá o
define_command do plugin.
Alguém por misericordia já usou este plugin e sabe como configurá-lo para
funcionar no nagios.
Meu projeto de estágio depende muito disso.

Desde já, obrigado.

[Nagios-users] Limiting mail notification for clock drift

2008-11-11 Thread Kenneth Holter
Hello.

I'm using Nagios 3.0.3 to monitor things such as time (synchronized with
NTP) on our servers, and are getting a lot of semi-duplicate notification
mails: As long as there is an error/warning, I get a mail notification every
time the clock drift increases or decreases. Is there an option I can set to
limit the notification to _one_ mail whenever we enter or leave an
error/warning state, and thus not for every time a new drift time is
calculated?

The same problem also applies to things such as disk space.

Regards,
Kenneth Holter

[Nagios-users] Confused on how this is working with out nrpe...

2008-11-11 Thread Charlie Reddington
Hi,

I'm running the latest version of nagios - 3.0.5.

On my remote hosts, I'm running NRPE.

I haven't used nrpe with nagios since 2.9, so I'm wondering did I miss
how things work now that we are 3.0.

I have a bunch of checks - disk, load, users, etc, but I'm not putting
it through nrpe, yet it's returning info.

Do I not need nrpe any more? Or namely do I not need to do things like.

check_nrpe!check_disk

Thanks for clueing me in.

Re: [Nagios-users] disabling checks of all service and host no longer works

I applied the patch and it worked.
I selected a host and told it to disable checks for all services and the
host and this time it did it.

 I did notice, however, that if I select to disable checks of all

 Anyone else notice that?

There's a fix available at http://www.op5.org/src/nagios-3.0.5p1.tar.gz

If that works for you, please make sure to report it here so Ethan knows
it's safe to apply those patches to the official Nagios sources.

Thanks.

The results being reported are for the machine that nagios is running
on only. The check_local_* commands almost certainly don't take a
hostname parameter and always operate for localhost *. When checking
host 'master', check_local_load shows the load for the nagios machine;
when checking prodws01, check_local_load shows the load for the nagios
machine, etc...

As you suspect, you must use nrpe or some other remote connection
methodology to run those plugins on the remote host to get the results
you expect.

* unless the command{} defintion uses check_nrpe or other remote
connection methodology.

Don't forget that the directory you specify for the RRD files to go must

Hi Friends,

I am trying to integrate Nagiosgraph with nagios.

Is there any helpful link or tutorial available for Nagiosgraph?

I appreciate your help.

Re: [Nagios-users] disabling checks of all service and host no longer works

 Ever since I upgraded to 3.0.5 I noticed that if I select a host and
 choose 'disable checks on all services on this host' then select for

 service checks individually it works, but never all at once.

 I did notice, however, that if I select to disable checks of all
 services and don't check to disable for the host also, it will actually
 disable checks for all services - but not if I include the host.

 Anyone else notice that?

There's a fix available at http://www.op5.org/src/nagios-3.0.5p1.tar.gz

If that works for you, please make sure to report it here so Ethan knows
it's safe to apply those patches to the official Nagios sources.

Thanks.

2008-11-11 Thread Charlie Reddington
Sure thing. I think I am missing something as it's not working how I
remembered it working.

On my remote host, my config file.

Alloweed_hosts=my.server.com

# The following examples use hardcoded command arguments...
command[check_smtp]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_smtp -t20 -w 10 -c

command[check_load]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_load -w

# The following examples allow user-supplied arguments and can
# only be used if the NRPE daemon was compiled with support for
# command arguments *AND* the dont_blame_nrpe directive in this
# config file is set to '1'. This poses a potential security risk, so
# make sure you read the SECURITY file before doing this.

#command[check_users]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_users -w $ARG1$ -

$ARG2$ -p $ARG3$
command[check_procs]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -w $ARG1$ -
c $ARG2$ -s $ARG3$

And on my host system, I have some checks and definiations as such.

# 'check_ftp' command definition
define command{
 command_namecheck_ftp
 command_line$USER1$/check_ftp -H $HOSTADDRESS$ $ARG1$
 }

# 'check_hpjd' command definition

 }

# 'check_http' command definition
define command{
 command_namecheck_http
 command_line$USER1$/check_http -I $HOSTADDRESS$ $ARG1$
 }

---

define service{
 use generic-service ;
Name of service template to use
 host_name   master
 service_description PING
check_command   check_ping!100.0,20%!500.0,60%
 }

define service{
 use generic-service ;
Name of service template to use
 host_name   master,prodws01,prodws02
 service_description Root Partition
check_command   check_local_disk!20%!10%!/
 }

define service{
 use generic-service ;
Name of service template to use
 host_name   master,prodws01,prodws02
 service_description Current Users
check_command   check_local_users!20!50
 }

define service{
 use generic-service ;
Name of service template to use
 host_name   master,prodws01,prodws02
 service_description Total Processes
check_command   check_local_procs!250!400!RSZDT
 }

define service{
 use generic-service ;

 service_description Current Load
check_command
check_local_load!5.0,4.0,3.0!10.0,6.0,4.0
 }

Now looking at this, I'm able to get successful checks, with out using
nrpe on the host server. So my question comes back to, how is this
working when I thought you had to define commands like this

define service{
 use generic-service
 host_name   master,prodws01,prodws02
 service_description Current Load
check_command
check_nrpe!check_local_load!5.0,4.0,3.0!10.0,6.0,4.0
 }

Re: [Nagios-users] Nagiosgraph is not working

2008-11-11 Thread Novin Jaiswal
Hi James,

Thanks for your help.

I have pasted into ngshared.pm
use lib '/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/';

Now there is no error when I execute that perl script from cmd prompt.
But when I click from Nagios webinterface for nagiosgraph link of that
service. It open a new browser with following error

Nagiosgraph has detected an error in the configuration file:
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi//nagiosgraph.conf.
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi//nagiosgraph.conf not
found

Looks like it try to find nagiosgraph.conf inside the use lib

One more thing to share with you When I go through documentation the
required packages needed for nagiosgraph I don't have perl-CGI, and
perl-rrdtool.

How to know whether these 2 packages are installed or not? I have
installed rrdtool as per the instruction of its site.

Hi James,

Thanks for your help.

I have pasted into ngshared.pm
use lib '/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/';

Now there is no error when I execute that perl script from cmd prompt.
But when I click from Nagios webinterface for nagiosgraph link of that
service. It open a new browser with following error

Nagiosgraph has detected an error in the configuration file:
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi//nagiosgraph.conf.
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi//nagiosgraph.conf not

Looks like it try to find nagiosgraph.conf inside the use lib

One more thing to share with you When I go through documentation the
required packages needed for nagiosgraph I don't have perl-CGI, and
perl-rrdtool.

How to know whether these 2 packages are installed or not? I have
installed rrdtool as per the instruction of its site.

We also configure check_logfiles as a volatile service, but that doesn't
solve the problem at hand.

I still don't understand how to get Nagios to send notifications until we
acknowledge the problem, without ignoring future problems. Can anyone
explain if this is possible?

 a question about acknowledgement.

 We're using the check_logfiles plugin to monitor syslogs (e.g.
 /var/adm/messages on Solaris). check_logfiles returns CRITICAL when it
 detects
 a problem, but then normally clears itself (returns OK) the next time it
 runs.
 Nagios notifies us only once under this scenerio, and since it's possible
 that
 pagers might miss just one page (paging services aren't 100% reliable), we'd
 rather get notified until we explicitly acknowledge the problem.

 The check_logfiles plugin does have the capability to continue to report the
 error (using its sticky option). This is good since then we're notified
 longer, but if we then use the Nagios Acknowledge link to acknowledge the
 problem, new problems (e.g. new errors in /var/adm/messages) reported by the
 check_logfiles plugin get ignored.

 My question: Is there a way with Nagios to acknowledge a problem reported by
 a
 plugin like check_logfiles without ignoring future problems? Or would this
 be
 new functionality needed in Nagios? I realize we can syslog an okpattern
 string and check_logfiles will then clear, but I'm looking for something
 using
 the Nagios web (and external command_file) interfaces. Using the Nagios
 Acknowledge link would be ideal, since that's what folks are going to be
 using for other problems.

 Nagios and the check_logfiles plugin are great tools... perhaps I'm simply
 missing something.

 Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you need to remove the is_volatile option in your service

That's a perfectly good question.

Let's say for example that the servers that manage our backup system
run on Sun Solaris. I need to notify our Unix Administration group if
something happens to the backup servers. However, the administrator
of the backup system, is not in the Unix admin group. In this
instance, I need to notify a group of people (Unix Admins) and an
individual (backup software administrator).

What I need help in figuring out is if I can add an individual contact
into the contact_groups list, or should I just add a contacts list
along with a contact_group listing.

Sometimes it pays of in the long run to be a bit stubborn about adding
not to many exceptions. Exceptions have a tendency to take on a life of

 It is my understanding that when all the service checks fail, Nagios performs
 host checks; the number of which we have specified to 3. At which point

 Nagios resumes service checks. It is at this point my question lies. When
 does Nagios perform another host check? Would it be after all the service
 checks are reported Okay or will Nagios perform a
 host check after the first service check reports okay.

Once a service check fails the host check kicks in. This may result in
not doing any other checks at that time. If the hosts checks faile beyon
the limit set the host will reach a hard state of down and no further
servic notifications will be done.

This theory has been discussed rather intensively on this mailinglist
and for full details I advise you to browse the archives where propably
could have found the answer.

Re: [Nagios-users] Perfparse, PNP, NagiosGrapher, ...

2008-11-11 Thread hiren
we tried nagiosgrapher, but that seemed to impact the performance of our
nagios server quite a bit, we therefore tried pnp in bulk mode with
npcd, and found it worked a lot better for us.
another thing I liked about pnp, is that it will graph any check with
performance data, any new checks added to hosts that have performance
data, just start getting graphed - no configuration needed, which is
nice.
hope it helps.

 so my question... which one do you use? and why did you choose exactly
 this one?
 is there a list of pros and cons?

 thanks a lot,
