[Nagios-users] Error after installed Nagios in a new server

2009-11-09 Thread ReynierPM
Hi every:
I've installed today Nagios on a new dedicated server. I've also one
Bacula Server configured to check. When I try to access to "Hosts" or
any other link I get this error:

"It appears as though you do not have permission to view information for
any of the hosts you requested..."

I check this links:
http://www.mail-archive.com/nagios-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg06010.html
http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/2_0/installweb.html
http://nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/cgiauth.html

And do all this but it still not working. Can any help me to fix this?

Re: [Nagios-users] problem with check_mrtgtraf

2009-11-09 Thread AJay
Sorry about the confusion. Actually I was talking about pnp graphics.

The check_mrtgtraf plugin got the correct traffic value from the mrtg log file
-- e.g., 2 KB/s or 800 B/s. I just want the 800B/s to automatically convert to
0.8KB/s via the check_mrtgtraf plugin (OR via pnp).

Today with my colleague's help, I edited and recompiled check_mrtgtraf.c,
removed the "report in/outgoing traffic in Bytes/sec" parts and "report
in/outgoing traffic in MBytes/sec" parts. Now the output for the plugin is
0.8KB/s. And the pnp graphics look good, too. It's great!

Anyway, thanks for your help, guys!

Your question is not clear, at least to me, nor is it apparent how
this is related to nagios. PNP4nagios and mrtg are two different
things, getting data from two different places. Both use their own RRD
databases for backends.

RRD files are units-agnostic. They just store a number and it's up to
the presentation layer to determine what units that number is (bits,
Kb, Mb, apples falling/second, etc).

If you're having a problem with MRTG graphs, the proper forum would be
the mrtg listserv.

If you're having a problem with pnp4nagios graphs, the proper forum
would be pnp4nagios-users.

It seems likely to me that either:

a) The config you're checking and the one the init script is telling
Nagios to load are not the same thing,

or

b) The Nagios you're running, and the one the init script is running,
are not the same thing.

[Nagios-users] Problem starting Nagios

2009-11-09 Thread John Oliver
I installed Nagios from Dag Wieers' RPMForge site

[joli...@mda-services4 ~]$ rpm -q nagios

When I try to start it:

[joli...@mda-services4 ~]$ sudo /etc/init.d/nagios start
Starting nagios:CONFIG ERROR! Start aborted. Check your Nagios
configuration.

But:

[joli...@mda-services4 ~]$ ls -la /var/log/nagios/
total 24
drwxr-xr-x 3 nagios nagios 4096 Nov 9 12:49 .
drwxr-xr-x 12 root root 4096 Nov 9 12:49 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 nagios nagios 4096 Aug 27 06:35 archives

And:

[joli...@mda-services4 ~]$ sudo /usr/bin/nagios -v
/etc/nagios/nagios.cfg

[Nagios-users] Nagios to monitor job progress?

2009-11-09 Thread Todd Mcneill
Hi-

I have a batch process that runs on a Windows box that I'd like to
monitor through Nagios. Currently, the job writes all status output to
a log file, and this log file is parsed by another monitoring agent
(NetIQ) in order to alert when problems occur. This job only runs once
a month, and is not scheduled on the Windows server, but triggered by
another process running on an iSeries box, so we have no idea when the
job will start. In order to gain awareness of job progress, NetIQ is
also sending non-error alerts when the job starts and completes, as well
as alerts when certain phases of the job complete, also based upon the
job log output.

NetIQ is completely unreliable, and we're getting these alerts hours
after the events occur. I currently have Nagios running in our
enterprise monitoring Unix and database services, but nothing running
for Windows. I can probably use Splunk to perform the log parsing and
alerting, but that means adding another alert source into the mix, which
can get confusing.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this through Nagios?
Is there a way to configure a Nagios service check to send out an alert
for a non-error condition (i.e. no state change, just a status update
change)?

Thanks,
Todd

[Nagios-users] distributed servers not updating master with host problems

2009-11-09 Thread Noel Platzke
I've just started noticing a strange problem. If a host being monitored by a
distributed server dies the master server isn't receiving the information it
needs to generate an email. This doesn't happen every time only on occasion
but I can't figure out why it's an intermittent problem.

*This is an excerpt from the logs on the master:*
[11-09-2009 14:05:56] SERVICE ALERT: prodhv28;Alert 11003 - Check Local
Disks;CRITICAL;HARD;1;CRITICAL - Plugin timed out while executing system
call
[11-09-2009 14:05:26] SERVICE ALERT: prodhv28;Alert 11002 - Check
Load;CRITICAL;HARD;1;CRITICAL - Plugin timed out while executing system call
[11-09-2009 14:05:16] HOST ALERT: prodhv28;DOWN;SOFT;1;PING CRITICAL -
Packet loss = 100%
[11-09-2009 14:04:56] SERVICE ALERT: prodhv28;Alert 11002 - Check
Load;CRITICAL;SOFT;1;CRITICAL - Plugin timed out while executing system call

*But this is what I see on the slave:*
[11-09-2009 14:06:50] HOST ALERT: ashprdhv28;DOWN;HARD;3;PING CRITICAL -
Packet loss = 100%
[11-09-2009 14:05:29] SERVICE ALERT: ashprdhv28;Alert 11003 - Check Local
Disks;CRITICAL;HARD;1;CRITICAL - Plugin timed out while executing system
call
[11-09-2009 14:05:29] HOST ALERT: ashprdhv28;DOWN;SOFT;2;PING CRITICAL -
Packet loss = 100%
[11-09-2009 14:05:06] SERVICE ALERT: ashprdhv28;Alert 11002 - Check
Load;CRITICAL;HARD;1;CRITICAL - Plugin timed out while executing system call
[11-09-2009 14:04:24] HOST ALERT: ashprdhv28;DOWN;SOFT;1;PING CRITICAL -
Packet loss = 100%
[11-09-2009 14:04:04] SERVICE ALERT: ashprdhv28;Alert 11002 - Check
Load;CRITICAL;SOFT;1;CRITICAL - Plugin timed out while executing system call

The two subsequent host check attempts never made it back to the master. I'd
chalk it up to a problem with nsca but I'm not missing any service checks,
only host.

I've currently got every host using the same template, which includes a 5
minute check interval with a 1 minute retry and a 600 second freshness
threshold. Somewhere one of the servers should be kicking off these checks
but for some reason the master isn't doing what it's configured to do. I'm
at a loss. Any ideas?

How are you installing it? From source, RPM or other?

If you're building it yourself and it's linking against a library that
it can't find at runtime, that would indicate a problem with the
machine's environment.

If you're installing from RPM and it's linked against a library that's
not provided by distribution, either the RPM is broken or you're
installing a version that was not build for Fedora 11.

If it's built for Fedora 11 and expecting to see libltdl.so.3 but you
don't have it, either you haven't installed the correct packages on that
machine or, again, your environment might not be correct.

It's going to take a bit more information to troubleshoot this. There
are still too many unkown variables.

Kevin,

Hosts and services can be members of multiple groups. I am doing
exactly what you are saying.

I define the host group and then the members. Some systems are in
multiple host group definitions.

[Nagios-users] Groupings

2009-11-09 Thread Kevin Holleran
Hello,

I am relatively new to Nagios. I have laid out a structure for Nagios
configs for all our servers, network gear, and 100 remote offices that we
monitor. My question is can I group devices by multiple ways? For
instance, I would like one group to be all the remote offices and include
only their edge routers. However, I would also like a group for each remote
office that includes the router as well as devices within the office. Can
this be done so that I can click on a service group for all remote routers
at the offices and then another series of groups to just see everything in
that office?

Thanks.

[Nagios-users] RE CHECK_NRPE: Error - Could not complete SSL handshake.

2009-11-09 Thread jonas kellens
As rpm -qa shows, I have the openssl-devel package installed :

[nag...@itcenter1 ~]$ rpm -qa | grep ssl
openssl-devel-0.9.8e-12.el5
app-ssl-5.0-10
openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5

What would then be my ???

/usr/bin/openssl
/usr/include/openssl
/usr/include/openssl/aes.h
/usr/include/openssl/asn1.h
/usr/include/openssl/asn1_mac.h
/usr/include/openssl/asn1t.h
/usr/include/openssl/bio.h
...
/usr/lib/openssl
/usr/lib/openssl/engines
/usr/lib/openssl/engines/lib4758cca.so
/usr/lib/openssl/engines/libaep.so
/usr/lib/openssl/engines/libatalla.so
...

I find in the source-code of configure the following :

--with-ssl=DIR sets location of the SSL installation
--with-ssl-inc=DIR sets location of the SSL include files
--with-ssl-lib=DIR sets location of the SSL libraries

2009-11-09 Thread frank . bourdeau
hi

Are openssl development libraries installed on the nagios server ?
If not, install it and compile nrpe with it (specify in command line :
./configure --with-ssl=)

[Nagios-users] CHECK_NRPE: Error - Could not complete SSL handshake.

Probably one of the most asked questions. I don't know why in my case
things aren't working.

[nag...@itcenter1 ~]$ ps aux |grep nrpe
nagios9194 0.0 0.1 8220 1712 ?Ss 08:39 0:00
/usr/local/nagios/bin/nrpe -c /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg -d
nagios 12480 0.0 0.0 3936 748 pts/0S+ 09:58 0:00 grep nrpe

[nag...@itcenter1 ~]# vi /usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg
allowed_hosts=127.0.0.1, public_ip_nagios

[nag...@itcenter1 ~]$ /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H localhost
NRPE v2.12

[nag...@itcenter1 ~]$ netstat -at | grep 5666
tcp0 0 *:5666 *:* LISTEN

TCP port 5666 is open on firewall...

[nag...@itcenter1 ~]$ rpm -qa | grep ssl
openssl-devel-0.9.8e-12.el5
app-ssl-5.0-10
openssl-0.9.8e-12.el5

But on Nagios :

[nag...@nagios objects]$ /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H
ip_public_server
CHECK_NRPE: Error - Could not complete SSL handshake.

Other hosts work fine :
[nag...@nagios objects]$ /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H
ip_other_public_server
NRPE v2.12

So what am I forgetting here ?!

Thanks ! Jonas.

I may be misunderstanding here, but it sounds like you're asking about
mrtg itself, and not check_mrtgtraf? It's not clear what graphs you're
talking about, but check_mrtgtraf doesn't generate any, or use them. It
just looks at the MRTG log.

[Nagios-users] Custom nagios reports, some help / suggestions needed

2009-11-09 Thread Øyvind Nordang
Hi

I was wondering if there was a way to send anything else than all or
to the hostgroup parameter in avail.cgi?
I want to be able to only show the availability for some of the host
groups, not just one and not all.

Another wish is to be able to list a report looking something like this:

Hostgroup A
HostA
- Disk full... dd.mm.yyy, resolved after 0d 0h 15m
- Ping lost… dd.mm., resolved after 0d 1h 4m

HostB
- sdfsdf

Hostgroup B
HostC
- Ping lost… dd.mm., resolved after 0d 1h 4m

I have tried some addons, but haven't been able to get any of them to
work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

[Nagios-users] Connection refused/socket time out

2009-11-09 Thread keshav murthy
Hey guys,

My environment

   - 2 nagios servers
   - 1 nagios server monitoring more than 920 clients and another more than
   700 clients
   - Clients are both Windows and Unix servers
   - *No firewalls*.
   - Added both the nagios server's IP address on all the client's config
   file.

Issue

   - Occasionally we get connection refused sometimes and Socket timeout
   sometimes.
   - During such times, it generates CRITICAL alert and our ticketing system
   generates lots of tickets

Assumptions

   - Network slowness between nagios server and client.
   - Client takes more time to respond to the check and nrpe timeouts.
   - NRPE dies on the nagios server.

Clarification needed

   - What are the various causes for these alerts? (are the assumptions
   correct, if wrong please clarify.)
   - Is it possible to change them as "Warning"?
   - If yes for above, how?

Regards
Kesava
