[Nagios-users] About retry intervals of Host Check

2010-03-01 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I would like to get an advice with the host check retry interval.

When you are using on demand host check, what would be the interval between the
host check retry?
I thoght that host check retry intervals are 1 minute but in some cases they
are not.

[Nagios-users] About Notifications after commit

2010-03-01 Thread Yu Watanabe
Hello all.

I have a question about the notifications after the commit.
I am wondering whether nagios refreshes the notification history event though
the state retention option
is specified.

Could someone help us out?

I am using the Nagios v3.0.6 and following is the situation:

1. Service Notification interval is set as 24h
2. Host status is UP at that time
3. Normal check interval is set 24h

Following is the history from the nagios.log:

* HARD status change had occured at Jan 11 08:35 . Notification has been sent
at 08:35
* Notification was sent at Jan 12 08:35
* Notification was sent at Jan 13 08:35
* Commit was executed at Jan 13 22:24
* Notification was not sent at Jan 14 08:35 --** This is the problem ***
* Recovery status change had occured from CRITICAL - OK at Jan 15 08:35.
Notification has been sent at 08:35.

I thought that Nagios inherits the last notification time when it restarts
using the nagiostatus.sav.
But it seems to be not the case for this time.

Could someone give us an advice?

Thank you.

I too have encountered this issue and also find it quite annoying. I did
refreshes a lot with 3.0.6 and find them useless now that I'm redirected to the

Did the backend web code change with 3.2.0?

Just add a header line to share/index.php

?php header(Cache-Control: max-age=7200, public); ?

This must be the first line in this file.

Or just rename index.php to index.html

Thanks , that sorted the issue .

Can't this go in to the source bundle to make sure the issue does not

A bit. index.html is now index.php. Because there's no actual PHP in there yet,
you can rename share/index.php to share/index.html to regain the old behavior.
You can do this now but you may not be able to in future releases.

No, there isn't. There is no PHP code in that page. Rename it to
index.html and the refresh problem goes away.

Is it possible to use multiple check_interval based on the hours of the

I don't think you can do such a thing in Nagios itself. If I really
had to do such a thing, I would set up a script on the monitored
server to send the check result to Nagios using send_nsca. If you run
this script at intervals from cron, it is easy in the crontab to have
it run more frequently during the day and less frequently at night.
In fact you could have the crontab on the Nagios server and still
submit the check result either via the command interface or via
send_nsca again.

I'm not saying I recommend doing this, as it would be a bit of a pain
to maintain, but if you really must it's one way of achieving what you
describe.

I would say hth but that probably doesn't!

Out of interest, why do you need to set things up that way?

Cheers,

Jim

You can do this in a few different ways. The easiest may be to define multiple
hosts/services for one 'real' host/service. That would allow you to define two
time periods and two different check_intervals. You would have to have the
names slightly different but notifications could be made to look like they are
the same host/service.
