That's correct. But, your proposed configuration wouldn't solve this problem - if the firewall fails, the Nagios servers can't contact each other anyway, so they could never agree on what's up and what's down. I made a slight error in my original description - when the firewall goes down it cant contact anything at both locations, not just Site A, due to the fact that the protected interface stays up but just denies all traffic. We are currently working on this with GTA but im losing the will to live with 300 texts virtually every night!! I've dealt with this situation before, and I've ended up implementing two mostly standalone Nagios systems. They each check their own site, so if their external network goes away they are still able to monitor and alert for the things they're responsible for (you have to use out-of-band notifications of course). They also each check each other's *site*, ala the other site's firewall, so the Nagios server at site A can alert and let you know if site B goes away, but it *doesn't* try to alert you for all of the hosts and services at site B. -- The problem with quotes on the internet is that it's very hard to verify their authenticity. -- Abraham Lincoln -- Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. Correct me if i'm wrong. The basic nagios backup and restore procedure is: - stop the nagios daemon - copy the contents of /etc/nagios3/, /usr/share/nagios/, /usr/share/nagios3/ to the same directory in the new server - before running, aptitude install nagios-plugins - start the nagios daemon Enjoy the happy end? 2012/5/11 Claudio Kuenzler c...@claudiokuenzler.com On Fri, May 11, 2012 at 3:55 PM, Luis H. [Nagios-users] Nagios3 Plugin - check_http SSL connection fails
Hello. I'm using nagios3. I installed the plugins for https connections but it doesn't work. [cid:image001.png@01CD2F58.CCE88370] Invalid option - SSL is not available. The server's binding (MS IIS) is https (port 443). Any idea? Kind regards. Perhaps it's telling you it can't find the system's SSL libraries. Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios + memory usage + SNMP
If you are checking Windows try check_wmi_plus (it is agentless) http://www.edcint.co.nz/checkwmiplus It can do all of that and a lot more which means your monitoring of Windows becomes a lot more consistent as you can use a single plugin for everything On 12/05/2012 4:16 AM, James Pratt wrote: Ok here is how I check/monitor memory on windows systems using the check_snmp_storage script: Commands.cfg definition - ## check phys mem on a windows server or vm - note the server must have snmpd installed and running, as well as a RO user defined! ## define command{ command_name check_snmp_phys_mem_win command_line $USER1$/check_snmp_storage -H $HOSTADDRESS$ $USER16$ -m Physical Memory -w $ARG1$ -c $ARG2$ } (Where $USER16$ is the snmp user defined to be read-only on the server you are monitoring, in your resources.cfg file) ### Here is actual service definition in my services.cfg file - ## Windows SNMP Mem Usage warn on 85%, crit on 90% define service{ use generic-service,srv-pnp ; Name of service template to use host_name Windows1,Windows2 service_description SNMP - Physical Memory Usage check_periodworkhours check_interval 15 max_check_attempts 5 notification_interval 60 notification_optionsw,u,c,r check_command check_snmp_phys_mem_win!85!90 } (If anything is missing from the above, it's being inherited from the hosts' definition to which it applies.
