Hello everybody. I need to have nagios reserve server which will replace the main server when it dies. I installed nagios on another machine, copied all directory /usr/local/nagios and start reserve service Nagios. I have thound that statistics differs very much! Of course, nagios was installed in different time on each server. But when I copy status.dat file from the main server, availibility statistics on the reserve server became the same! But AFTER RESTART it returnes to its previos state:(. So, I can't solve this problem, because I can't understand what files I need to copy in order to make the full copy:(. I must mention that reserve server must not work all time. It has to be turn on ONLY when main server dies. So, what about availibility statistics? How to make statistics on reserve server STRONGLY the same as on the main server? [Nagios-users] Maximum monitored hosts and services?
Hello everybody! I have performance problem now There are 5700 hosts and 7058 services in my nagios. Server-RHEL3, Nagios 2.5,8gb RAM,8 CPUs.All checks are active. Hosts checks disabled. Performance is awful! It can't perform all checks for an hour! When I had 3000 services the performance was great-all tests made in 5 min. Our environment increases fastly. So, I want to know how many services nagios can perform maximally in 5 min? I made tuning of nagios. All performance tips from docs and inet. But now I see that nagios works bad when it has 7000 service checks. Maybe version 3.0 will solve my problems? Help me please!:( I am in despair. [Nagios-users] Service duration problems
Hello! I have very important problem that annoying me very much:( I can't solve it for months. I use Nagios v. 2.5 (RHAS3) for a year. It is good monitoring system but smth strange is with event duration in availability report and "Current State Duration" field when I look at Service State Information. These values are different! I can't see the real statistics-how much server is in current state:(. I played with all nagios parametrs in nagios.cfg, searched info in internet. And didn't find anything. For example. I have service Ping on server. I see that it is "0d 0h 10m 27s" in state OK in Service State Information. But when I look at its avail.cgi I see: "27-12-2007 00:00:0027-12-2007 10:06:56 0d 10h 6m 56s+" I want to mention that nothing happend with server 10 min ago!:(It is wrong statistics. Also I have found strange thing. In this strange case "Last Check Time" field is the same as "Last State Change" field. Where is the truth? Why the time is different? How it works? [Nagios-users] Nagios XML Engine problems
Hello everybody! I installed NXE and all useful libraries and addons but have problems with launching. The main question is the next. For what version of Nagios NXE written? I ask this because in nxe.config I see strange file status.log. There is no such file in Nagios 2.5. It was in nagios 1.0. So what I must write instead of this? No it called status.dat. [Nagios-users] Can Nagios update configs by SQL from another server?
Hello everybody! We have server with sql base where there is data for Nagios. I will explain. There is dynamically updated database with servers and routers. The structure is simple:name and ip. And I have server with Nagios (v.2.5) I saw some addons and plugins for Nagios that store nagios configs in mysql database: NDOutils, loadconfig.pl and so on... Can these or maybe other programms go to SQL server, pull data with the names and ip of servers and routers and insert it to nagios configs (which are in sql or in .cfg files)? It is interesting can I increase it to 1 min?May be there are any other methods of tuning? I only set check_host (with check_icmp command) instead of check ping now and performance grew! [Nagios-users] Increasing Nagios performance on multiprocessor server
Hello everybody! I have Nagios installed on 8 processor server with 8 Gb operational memory and 2000 services to check. But server is not loaded even on 2%. I want better performance and faster check on such powerful server because it does not works in its full power. Often it stands and waits for something and there are only 5-10 processes. P.S. In nagios. cfg all checks are smart. But I think that Nagios can work faster. What directives I must change? Hello! Has anyone some shell or perl script which goes to cisco router, evaluates commands on it and output the result? I need to monitor x 25 vc connections on router. I have found where are these variables stored in cisco snmp mibs. But there is no such snmp plugin in Nagios to monitor this. The command which I use to show info I need is: router#sh x25 vc | inc 701000 Connects 701000 <--> 1100101 to Connects 701000 <--> 1100101 from Serial1/0 SVC 5 So, how this command and its output will look in shell script, which will be the plugin for Nagios? Hello! Is there any possibility in Nagios to create my own output of status.cgi program? I will try to describe my idea on example. When I open url http://nagios/nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi?hostgroup=other_atms&style=grid I want to see minimum information: -without any grids -colours -and fields which are not required for my goal. I need this in order the script to pull data from this url. There are for about 1000 hosts and Nagios generates this page too slowly, for about a second. So I want to make some kind of page which will be smaller as it is now with all these css, grids and unuseful info for me.In another words I need to clear page from many unnesessary html tags. So, have I write my own status.cgi? Or it can be done by another method? Where this cgi program takes fields (for example: host, status, last check, duration) which it displays on web page? I need yor help very much I have hostgroup which I need to describe in another configs. Updating script will work only with these files in order not to damage main configs in some case. So I made hosts2.cfg for my group and described it in nagios.cfg as cfg_file parameter. For services I used grouping services for the whole group. So the problem is halfly decided. But I want to ask you can I make another file hostgroups2.cfg ONLY for one group and describe it nagios.cfg as hosts2.cfg? Can Nagios work with two files hostgroups? P.S. I have already read the large book about Nagios. And there I saw some kind of nagios.cfg where there were addidional folder for some logical groups with their own hosts.cfg and services.cfg! [Nagios-users] Another one statusmap.cgi needed
Hello everyone! The problem is in self-made( user-supplied) map.I have very many hosts in my network. More than 1000. And it is not the limit. There is no place on the screen for the half of my hosts! On the circular maps objects gather in non-readable heap. On the balanced tree map for example the page is very long. I have to scroll a lot to reach the right (left) corner of my network. I have the task from my boss - to draw our own map, in order to see all of the monitored hosts and routers on the screen WITHOUT scrolling and large heap, where we see almost nothing. It is very important for comfortable monitoring in our enterprise. So, what I need? I need to make something like hyperlink to another web page with statusmap. For example, from main router to its subnetwork, which is large. So have I to create another map? But how? Statusmap is the cgi program, not html page By another words I want to have some more layout methods except already existing. Where these layers are described in Nagios? Can I add my own methods (in other words - my additional maps) somewhere? Or the only way is to insert changes to the source code of statusmap.cgi? Is it available for us, nagios administrators? [Nagios-users] snmpwalk (cisco mibs) - changes in the interface's MAC addresses table
Is there any OID (if it's possible the exact name) in cisco mibs which shows changes in theinterface's MAC addresses table? (Or if there is no such OID, maybe there is OID with the STATIC interface's MAC addresses table?) With the help of snmpwalk with such OID to our cisco devices and with some kind of script for Nagios I will find out the changes in my network status.
