I think in your printf line, you need to reference it as
$_HOSTPRIMARY_CONTACT$.

Re: [Nagios-users] Error while configuring NRPE on solaris

2009-06-24 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi, came across this just now while browsing my NAGIOS mail folder.

>From my notes on installing NAGIOS on Solaris 10:

If getting SSL handshake error from nrpe, it may be that you don't have
the SUN Solaris crypto packages SUNWcrman, SUNWcryr and SUNWcry
installed. Install them in the order: SUNWcrman, SUNWcryr, and SUNWcry

Note: they are in the Solaris_10/Product subdirectory of the Solaris 10
DVD

# pkgadd -d . SUNWcrman SUNWcry SUNWcryr

For the other error with the "svc:/network/nrpe/tcp", I would suggest
you delete the SMF profile for NRPE and recreate it following the
instructions by Stephan Windmueller
  at
http://ls5-www.cs.uni-dortmund.de/~windmueller/nagios-solaris10.html.
You don't need the whole thing, just the "Integrating Nagios into SMF"
section. Look out for the paths and modify to match your install.

fyi

I have been using nagios and nrpe 9-10 years now; sparc and x86, started
back with solaris 7
and now soalris 10, zero error mix solaris, aix, hpux, linux.
The server has always been Solaris (sparc or x86), use
inetd/xinetd/deamon mode
again zero error

The one 'problem' i have seen people complain about is ssl and nrpe,
read the manual and it should pretty
clear what todo, 99.9% is almost the use not having doing some RTFM
thingy :)
The other one is tcp-wrapper and nrpe, nrpe has a access control
buildt-in
so I never understood one would need to use tcp-wrapper :)

Re: [Nagios-users] Read Only CGI Patch

2009-06-13 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi,
One option is to backup all your existing cgis then run "make
install-cgis". If anything goes wrong, you just copy the original cgis
back into place. Alternatively, don't run "make install-cgis", just
backup your existing cgis, then manually copy the newly compiled cgi to
your NAGIOS cgi directory (e.g., /usr/local/nagios/sbin) overwriting
what's there already. If anything goes wrong, replace them with the
backup.

Re: [Nagios-users] Custom report showing weekly Average/Max valuesfor CPU/RAM/SWAP/Availability

2009-05-27 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi,
Thanks for the response. I will look into the RRDTool command line
option.
Yes, I am using NDOUTILS. I have actually examined a few of the tables
and it looks like the base values that can be manipulated are in there
(somewhere :-).
I have looked at the NAGIOS email reporter and it's not what I want. In
fact, I have implemented the same thing it does myself - i.e., query the
standard NAGIOS cgis. The issue with this output is that what you get
from the CGIs are not the performance data values, but the percentage of
the time a particular measurement is over the warning/critical
threshold.
By the way, are there comprehensive entity-relationship type diagrams
for the tables making up the NDOUTILS tables anywhere?

Thanks.

I don't use PNP but I expect this will be work for you unless it has
built-in reporting for this (I don't believe it does). I would
encourage you to learn more about how RRDTool works by reading the
Documentation and Tutorials at
http://oss.oetiker.ch/rrdtool/index.en.html
. That will give you a good basis for the concepts you will need to do
do this. To obtain the textual values for these parameters, you'll
need to use the command-line rrdtool program to fetch the values from
the rrd files directly. rrdtool can fetch the AVERAGE value at each
stored point during the week and you'll need to add those up and
divide by the number of values to determine the single average value
(man rrdfetch). You could also pick the MAX value from that output or
maybe PNP also includes a MAX rra you can fetch.

Nagios Email Reporter might be the ticket here.

There are no databases or tables to query unless you're using NDOUtils
and even then, getting this information wouldn't be trivial, IMHO.

[Nagios-users] Custom report showing weekly Average/Max values for CPU/RAM/SWAP/Availability

2009-05-26 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,

I am currently monitoring several parameters on my clients (CPU, RAM,
Disk, availability, SWAP, etc)

I am also collecting performance data from the plug-ins which is being
used by PNP4nagios to create graphs.

I have a request from "management" for a single report (weekly on Monday
mornings at 9am) which shows the average and maximum values of each of
these parameters (at least CPU, RAM, SWAP) and Availability using a
single row per server. The duration for the report is the previous one
week (Monday 00:00 to Sunday 11:59PM)

I think it should be possible if one knows the right tables to query and
possibly how to string the right query together, but with very little
idea of the tables, their relationships (not to mention that I am not a
DBA) it's a very tall order for me.

Does anyone have a query that does a similar thing or even some script
or application?

Thanks.

Re: [Nagios-users] Using both NTLM and htpasswd file authentication for NAGIOS web interface

2009-05-23 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
I don't mind the users authenticating from one source, but the submit
commands don't appear to work when authenticating against Windows AD
(see my mail below). The reason I am using the NTLM auth module is to
get "single sign-on" so that users are not prompted for their
username/passwords once they are already logged into the Windows domain
(which works).

If I go with the apache password text file, then I will have another
credential database to maintain (user account maintenance) and it means
my users will have to learn another set of passwords. I also don't want
to go the way of setting up a full SAMBA installation just to proxy the
authentication to the domain controller.

Thanks.

You want to send this to the nagios developer mailing list. Seems you
are spoiling your users - why can't they all authenticate from one
source - apache?

Hi Tunde,

I have never tried this before but I will suggest you try your auth
systems one at a time to know they are working before implementing them.

Nagios uses apache http authentication by default so you should not have
any issues with this. Or maybe I am missing something, please correct if
I am.

Never tried NTLM authentication with nagios so I can't help in that area
but you can look at this link

http://www.itefix.no/i2/node/11683

I am sure there are pam or kerberos modules that can talk to a dbase
like ldap or AD.

This also brings me to a related issue, I cannot use the "Downtime"

have added the user (MYDOMAIN\username and also username) to the

I have never tried this before but I will suggest you try your auth
systems one at a time to know they are working before implementing them.

Nagios uses apache http authentication by default so you should not have
any issues with this. Or maybe I am missing something, please correct if
I am.

Never tried NTLM authentication with nagios so I can't help in that area
but you can look at this link

http://www.itefix.no/i2/node/11683

I am sure there are pam or kerberos modules that can talk to a dbase
like ldap or AD.

Regards,
Alex

This also brings me to a related issue, I cannot use the "Downtime"

have added the user (MYDOMAIN\username and also username) to the
relevant sections of the cgi.cgi file.

Thanks.

Re: [Nagios-users] PNP swap template HOWTO

2009-05-06 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All/Jim/Marc-Andre,
Thanks for the response. I was actually able to figure it out while waiting - I
didn't RTFM - not all at first :-)

Here is what I did in case someone else finds it useful (and if possible
correct me if I am wrong):

# cd /usr/local/nagios/etc/pnp/check_commands
# cp -a check_nwstat.cfg-sample check_nrpe.cfg
# grep CUSTOM_TEMPLATE check_nrpe.cfg
CUSTOM_TEMPLATE = 0,1

# cd /usr/local/nagios/share/pnp
# cp -a templates.dist/check_swap.php templates/check_nrpe_check_dsk_swap.php
# /etc/init.d/npcd restart

Jim: The SWAP graph looks OK and I haven't noticed any changes in the other
graphs (CPU, RAM, filesystems, PING, etc) - possibly because the check_nrpe
defaults are the same as in the nwstat.cfg-sample file I created the
check_nrpe.cfg from, and the check_nrpe_check_dsk_swap.php is only used for the
SWAP graph while the default check_nrpe settings continues to be used for the
other graphs?

Marc-Andre: I assume apart from just placing your SWAP template in the
templates directory, I still need to create the check_nrpe.cfg and
check_nrpe_check_dsk_swap.php files as I did above? Will try your template in a
minute ...

Ach! I lost all my SWAP history by deleting the RRDs!

Thanks again.
Regards.

You could use a template I developped some weeks ago. It works pretty well.
Just copy it into the "templates" directory

[Nagios-users] PNP swap template HOWTO

2009-05-06 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,
By default I have nothing in the templates directory of my PNP
installation so all my graphs use the "Default Template."
I noticed that this inverts the SWAP utilization graph i.e., the red and
yellow lines (warning/critical) are very close to the bottom of the
graph while the utilization shows as almost 100% (close to the top)
instead of very low is it actually is.
I have copied the check_swap.php from the templates.dist directory into
the templates directory, deleted all the existing swap.xml and swap.rrd
files, and restarted the npcd daemon.
I have also tried renaming check_swap.php to swap.php.
I noticed also that all my graphs use the Default Template and the XML
files for all of them have check_nrpe. As these
files are generated automatically, how do I get the SWAP graph to use
the SWAP template?
What else do I need to do?
I am using PNP version 0.4.13
Thanks.

Is it possible to trigger an alert by sending an email to nagios
(passive check)?
I'm guessing it isn't a straight forward as that, just wonder if it is
doable,
and any links to examples would be cool too.

Thanks in advance

[Nagios-users] Difference between "% Total Time" and "% Known Time"

2009-03-21 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,

Please what's the difference between "% Total Time" and "% Known Time"
on the NAGIOS interface (availability etc)? The two values usually
appear together e.g., as "Total Time % (Known Time %)"

If reporting to "management" for example, which value should be
reported?

The staff in my monitoring unit (and myself :-) are a little confused as
to which of the two values represent availability for example.

Thanks.

[Nagios-users] Monitoring Solaris systems with default snmpdx

2009-03-05 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,

Is anybody using NAGIOS to monitor Solaris systems using the default
SNMPDX that comes with the Solaris systems? If yes, can I have your
configuration of the snmpdx for the commonly mentioned performance
parameters such as RAM utilization, CPU utilization, Disk utilization
(the relevant MIBs and how it's configured in the snmpdx config file).

I want to monitor some Solaris systems without installing any new
software on them (Solaris 9 and 10).

Thanks.

Re: [Nagios-users] SUSPECT: gui config application

2009-03-02 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi,
I have been using NagiosQL and I must say it's great. I am going to try
Centreon (not sure if it has modules for editing Nagios files though).
There is also Lilac (formerly fruity) which comes with an autodiscovery
engine (actually running Nmap). There is EZNag (lots of stuff to make
Nagios easy to manage already bundled together) and Opscfg or so.
But until I actually see something better, it's NagiosQL for me - here
is thanks to the development team and the support community.

Regards.

Googling around there are a few out there, mostly ng1, ng2, and I am
wondering if there is something nice and clean out there for nagios 3.

I don't mind the cli, but sometimes a point/click is just so much
easier.

New to the list, so if it's been discussed, I apologize.

[Nagios-users] configuring plugins to return graphable data

2009-02-27 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,

Please I am using the default plugin sets on my Solaris/Linux systems. I
would like to know the changes I need to make to these plugins (e.g.,
check_ram, check_load, check_cpu, check_disk, check_ping, etc)

I need to graph their output's for proper reporting purposes but I can't
remember the approach to making them return output in the proper format
.. something about everything after "|" - please help. Thanks. A
concrete example will be appreciated.

[Nagios-users] Extending Nagios to consume an SMS webservice

2008-02-28 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,

I am trying to get Nagios to send SMS through an SMS webservice running
on a Windows server.

I can send a message through curl for example so I know it works ok.

For the moment, I just want to be able to send an SMS when a host is no
longer available/reachable.

I have been experimenting but it's not working properly (or sometimes
not at all)

I suddenly got one notification by email over a one day period but no
SMS at all.

Ultimately, I want to send both an email notification and an SMS at the
same time. Once I get it figured out, I would like to do the same for
defined services.

My modified 'notify-host-by-email' command is as follows:

# 'notify-host-by-email' command definition

define command{

command_namenotify-host-by-email

command_line/usr/bin/printf "%b" "* Nagios
*\n\nNotification Type: $NOTIFICATIONTYPE$\n\nService:
$SERVICEDESC$\nHost: $HOSTALIAS$\nAddress: $HOSTADDRESS$\nState:
$SERVICESTATE$\n\nDate/Time: $LONGDATETIME$\n\nAdditional
Info:\n\n$SERVICEOUTPUT$" |
/usr/local/nagios/etc/celtelconfig/send-mail-sms-alerts.sh

}

The sendsmsalerts.sh script is as follows:

#!/bin/sh

# called by notify-host-by-email

read INPARAM

MESSAGE="appCode=Nagios&fromNumer=NAGIOS&toNumber=2348013556519&shortMes
sage=$INPARAM"

curl -d $MESSAGE
http://sms-server/smswebservice/smsservice.asmx/SendMessage

a sample working curl message is of the form:

curl -d
"appCode=Nagios&fromNumer=NAGIOS&toNumber=2348013556519&shortMessage=Nag
ios Calling at 1:41PM"
http://sms-server/smswebservice/smsservice.asmx/SendMessage

Hi, am I right in thinking that you are running your NRPE daemon under
inetd's control?

If yes, try running the NRPE daemon standalone. Then repeat your tests.
Let's know if it works.

For some reason I was never able to run NRPE on AIX under inetd
successfully - I got something

similar to the error you reported below.

$ ps -ef | grep nrpe

Hi,

I tried with both the option using hostname as well as ip address.

Still I am getting the same error.

I have found that you cannot use localhost when using nrpe, try the
hostname instead.

Hi,

Can somebody please let me know if there is any way to get a utilization
report of a server say over a month through nagios.

Something like it was utilized 20% or 30%.

Secondly, which plugin can we use to check how much is the cpu
utilization? Is there a way to get it in percentage terms?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

With thanks,

Re: [Nagios-users] using check_procs to check number of occurrences ofa certain process

2007-07-19 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,

For some reason, the check_procs does not seem to "see" my processes
when used with something like
/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -c 1:10 -C 'oprd'
Or /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -c 1:10 -C
'/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/oprd'
I get something like:
" PROCS CRITICAL: 0 processes with command name
'/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/oprd'"

I have even tried compiling the plugins with the
--with-ps_command="/usr/ucb/ps -auxw" option with no difference in
outcome.

My config:

Solaris 9 SPARC with gcc 3.3.2 and Nagios-Plugins 1.4.9.

Thank you.

Hi All,

Please I want to use check_procs to warn me if a certain process (say

And also return critical if myproc has more than say 5 occurrences.

The example below is from check_procs' help. I am not sure on how to
adapt it to fit my requirements.

Thank you.

Examples:
 check_procs -w 2:2 -c 2:1024 -C portsentry
Warning if not two processes with command name portsentry.
  Critical if < 2 or > 1024 processes

[Nagios-users] statically compiling NRPE on Solaris 9

2007-07-14 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,

Is it possible to statically compile/link NRPE on one server then be able to
copy only the binaries to other servers which may not have OpenSSL and some of
the other required libraries installed? (possibly even no GCC on the other
servers.) Same goes for Nagios-Plugins.

I am compiling NRPE-2.8 on Solaris 9 SPARC. Thanks.

[Nagios-users] CRC32 errors with NRPE/Nagios Plugins on Solaris 9

2005-12-22 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi All,

I am getting CRC32 errors from NRPE on a Solaris box.
If I run nrpe as a standalone daemon it works fine.

My Environment:
Solaris 9 SPARC
Nagios plugins 1.4.2 (compiled with ./configure --enable-command-args
--disable-ssl; make all)
NRPE version: nrpe-2.0-altinity

Inetd.conf line
nrpestream tcp nowait nobody /nrpe/bin/nrpe -c /nrpe/nrpe.cfg
-i

Testing from the command line on the Solaris box I get the following
error:

# /nrpe/bin/check_nrpe -H 127.0.0.1 -c check_swap
CHECK_NRPE: Response packet had invalid CRC32.

Please note that I get this same error on an AIX 5.3 box when I try to
put NRPE
Under inetd's control too. (I finally gave up and ran NRPE as standalone
daemons
On my AIX systems :-(

My central collection server is nagios 2.04 running on SuSE Linux

Perhaps you should try specifying your include path to point to
/usr/local/include. "-l/usr/local/include". Since you're using the GNU
versions of the compiler tools, I would think you would want to use the
GNU include directories instead of the default Solaris directories,
although I haven't had to do this when I've compiled NRPE on Solaris 9.
You may also want to check your LD_LIBRARY_PATH settings, either through
the environment variable or by using "crle".

Is it possible to get your modified check_nrpe code?

I modified the check_nrpe (and check_nt, too) code so that a 'connection
refused', timeout or protocol error would result in an unknown, rather
than
a critical. This also means I get 'unknown' if the NRPE agent is not
running (which is what I want, since the host is not necessarily in a
critical state).

Works for us, but you might want a failing agent to produce a critical.
If
this is the case, just add a flag to make this behaviour disableable.

RE: [Nagios-users] Running NRPE under inetd (AIX)

2005-11-08 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi
Hi,

Please find listed below my installation steps. Did I misspell
something?

installing NRPE and Nagios-Plugins (without ssl)

gunzip nrpe-2.0b4.tar.gz
tar -xvf nrpe-2.0b4.tar
cd nrpe-2.0b4
./configure --enable-command-args --disable-ssl
make all

mkdir -p /nagios/sbin
cp src/nrpe src/check_nrpe /nagios/sbin
mkdir -p /nagios/etc
cp -p nrpe.cfg /nagios/etc/

edit nrpe.cfg as required

gunzip nagios-plugins-HEAD-200510261647.tar.gz
tar -xvf nagios-plugins-HEAD-200510261647.tar
cd nagios-plugins-HEAD-200510261647
./configure --without-ssl -prefix=/nagios
make
make install

Can you send me your own installation steps for configuring
The 2 without ssl support?
Thanks.

We are succesfully using NRPE under AIX here. It was compiled without
SSL
support, since I cant get hold of SSL libraries for AIX (insert curses
on US
export laws here)

>From /etc/inetd.conf:
nrpestream tcp nowait monitor /usr/local/nrpe/nrpe nrpe -i -n
-c
/usr/local/nrpe/nrpe.cfg

The 'invalid CRC32' error message is the (highly unhelpful) response
usually
generated when there is a problem with encryption or permissions, or the
plugin fails, or indeed pretty much any other problem.

Since your daemon works when it is run as user root but fails when it is
run
(under inetd) as user nagios, would this not indicate that you have a
permissions problem? Check the permissions and ownerships on the
nrpe.cfg
file and parent directories, and of the plugins being called.

[Nagios-users] Running NRPE under inetd (AIX)

2005-11-07 Thread Ayotunde Itayemi

Hi All,

I have not been able to successfully place NRPE under
inetd’s control on AIX 5.3

I usually get a CRC error as a reply when checking it
manually from the command line.

The same command (except for using “-d”
instead of “-c”) works from the command line

When starting NRPE as a standalone daemon. I have
checked all the usual stuff – permissions,

User and group, putting the “-i” at the
end of the line in inetd.conf etc.

Line from my inetd.conf

nrpe    stream
tcp nowait  nagios /aixmon/nagios/sbin/nrpe -i -c
/aixmon/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg

Test with NRPE running as a standalone daemon

#/aixmon/nagios/sbin/check_nrpe -H 127.0.0.1 -c
check_disk1

DISK OK - free space: / 213 MB (83%);|
/=43MB;236;246;0;256

Test with NRPE running under INETD

#/aixmon/nagios/sbin/check_nrpe -H 127.0.0.1 -c
check_disk1

CHECK_NRPE: Response packet had invalid CRC32.

Also I can’t get the Statusmap link on the
NAGIOS monitoring page to come up.

It just comes up with “The page cannot be found”
cannot be found error page.

http://17.146.1200.10/nagios/cgi-bin/statusmap.cgi?host=all

Thank you.
