[Nagios-users] Tomcat Monitoring?

2009-07-31 Thread D. Emmanuel Feinsmith

Greetings,

Can anyone tell me if there are any best practices on monitoring
Tomcat using Nagios? Specifically, I'm looking for a combination of
log parsing, authentication entries and denials, session usage, memory
and process utilization, etc.

Thanks!

Since you mentioned my application in your post I would like to
 clarify that
iNag does not require you to modify your Nagios server, What iNag
 does do is it
allows you to get your Nagios status in a secure and fast way, Using
 the
inag.php scrip allows you to access this information without
 exposing Nagios to
 the whole world.

iNag is not a screen scraper or a web app, it supports all major
 versions of
Nagios 1.x-3.x and also supports SSL. (even self signed), it allows
 you to view
the daily event log, and acknowledge host/service problems right
 from your
 phone.

2009-06-02 Thread D. Emmanuel Feinsmith
Sascha,

I have considered and done some preliminary research on developing the
app for the Blackberry. The Blackberry SDK is nowhere near as powerful
as that of the iPhone, and also, the amount of memory available to
running software is also quite a bit less, so as a result, the options
are somewhat limited on that platform.

I have investigated the Google Android platform as another
possibility. All coding on Android is in Java. Its UI is, again, very
limited in comparison to the iPhone/iPod Touch, and the number of
people with those phones is also pretty small. Also up coming is the
new Palm Pre platform, which is quite interesting.

I am still researching the Blackberry development option. It'd be nice
to get an idea of demand. I wonder how many serious admins are using
Blackberry's vs. iPhones.

Daniel.

 Well, big question is:

Will it be available for real business phones too?
 Blackberry anyone? ;-)

Hi Denny,

Thanks for purchasing Brooklyn. SSL is not supported in the current
release. There will be an incremental release within the next two
weeks that will support SSL. I will inform the list at that time, and
then all you will need to do is perform an update of your application
and you will get the new functionality without any added cost. There
will be some other features and bug fixes in that release that we are
working on.

Thanks for your patience and apologies for the inconvenience. I will
update the App page to indicate that SSL is not supported yet.

[Nagios-users] Announcement: Brooklyn for Nagios now available for iPhone and iPod Touch!

2009-05-31 Thread D. Emmanuel Feinsmith
Dear Nagios Community,

I am pleased to announce the first and only fully native iPhone and
iPod Touch app for Nagios, Brooklyn for Nagios, is now on the iPhone
store and can be downloaded at:

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=317040435mt=8

This app is different from iNag and other similar iPhone applications
that use Nagios in that it does not require any changes whatsoever to
your Nagios server. It is a complete Nagios standalone native client.
Just download it to your iPhone or iPod Touch, set up the settings to
point to your nagios server, and you're done. If your server is
accessible through VPN, first set up your VPN connection on your
iPhone or iPod Touch.

Enjoy! And please send any feedback or requests to dan...@feinsmithsoftware.com

Coming soon: Support for other platforms, including Groundwork Open
Source.

Best Regards,
Daniel.

Yes I know RTFM... but I have and I can't seem to find this in the
 docs.

Nagios will only send an e-mail for the single Host down event but
will always display both the host and services as down (because they
are). This is not configurable behavior and I can't think of any
creative way to change the status of the services in that event that
 isn't a pain...

Yes, my iPhone Nagios App parses the output of status.cgi. For the
iPhone it's a particularly tricky problem due to the small amount of
memory available to applications. It's a pretty sophisticated little
multi-threaded application that does alot of incremental concurrent
loading and various memory management tricks to keep the footprint as
small as possible and keep the user interface snappy even when on an
Edge iPhone.
