[Nagios-users] nagios web services

2009-03-16 Thread Machiel Richards

Hi All

I had this very long time ago but can't find my notes on how I fixed
this.

We have had to restart the server that is running our nagios
monitoring.

After the reboot we started nagios, which is running as I am getting
my notifications, however when I try to access the web based frontend
via the browser I get "Object not found ERROR 404".

I remember I had this before after a reboot but after moving between
a couple of pc's in the meantime I seem to have lost my notes...

Can anyone please give some suggestions.

   System running:

* Suse 9.3

* Apache2

regards

[Nagios-users] user specific hosts

2008-02-27 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi everyone

I am looking for some info but I am not sure whether this can be
done.

We are currently running Nagios 2.10 and are monitoring 52
hosts in our organization.

We do however have some clients that is only interested in
seeing their production systems and the rest of the groups' servers.

Is there a way to set up a user and give it a specific set
of hosts that it is allowed to see on Nagios.

Say for instance we create user test and they log into
Nagios with user test then they should only see the hosts that they are
the owners of and not any other hosts?

Regards

[Nagios-users] Will this command for nagios work?

2008-03-10 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi everyone

I hope someone can help me out

We are running a server (suse 9.3 using oracle database)
that have some database services/components that needs to be monitored
by simply checking whether the component is Alive / Down and notifying
everyone if the component is down.

We have written the custom commands into scripts for the
separate components and the only output it provides is Alive / Down.

The question I have is regarding the command that I need to
enter into the nrpe.cfg file on the server...will the command as below
work or do we need to design the scripts in a different way?

command[check_service]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_service -c Down

[Nagios-users] Nagios memory percentages

2008-03-11 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi Everyone

Maybe someone can assist me, but this may be a more linux specific
question than Nagios even though related to Nagios.

I need to monitor the memory usage in percentage on Nagios and would
like to rather write my own scripts for this.

I know there are snmp versions of this to do the job for me, however
I do not want to complicate the systems with too many clients running on
them.

Currently we are using the normal nrpe to connect to the systems and run
scripts remotely, however we do not have one to monitor the memory.

On the web there are a lot of references to the snmp
commands but as all the systems are production and we might be having a
couple of upgrades soon, I would like to rather keep it simple and only
run one client on it for all Nagios connections.

My question is this... I can use the command free to get the
amount of memory , used, free etc...

How can I write this into a script to display as
percentages... is there another command I can use or maybe an option
that I do not know about?

Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios memory percentages

2008-03-11 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi

I am trying to use this option but the issue I have now is with the
following:

The output from the /proc/meminfo is as follows:

MemFree: 206788 kB

However, when I try to use cut in order to only get the numeric
value, the output I get back does not work that well as it still
includes the infront of the numeric value as well as the kb at
the end...

I have even tried this with free and the same result

What should I use as delimiter to the cut command?

Any other suggestions on how to only get the numeric value?

Commands used with output:

cat /proc/meminfo | grep MemTotal | cut -f 2 -d ":"

output :

  2067884 kB

As you can see the spaces are all out of place.

I have also noticed that when using a space as delimiter and
counting the spaces to the value, then you get the result, however if
the numeric value increase by one digit (i.e. from 6 digits to 7 digits
for instance) then the amount of spaces change and the program does not
work.

Looc at the /proc/meminfo file and the vmstat command.

Divide memory parameter (free, used, whatever) by total memory, multiply
by 100 and you have percent.

Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios memory percentages

2008-03-11 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi everyone

Thank you for all the help

I also now need to know the following :

I have now managed to get the memory usage working where it provides the
percentage as output and this is then used for monitoring innagios.

However, the only 'message' displayed on the Nagios screen for the
monitoring is the percentage and that is basically all...

How can I still get this message to be a bit more user friendly without
breaking the monitoring part?

[Nagios-users] remote host up but can not see services

2008-04-09 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi Everyone

I need some assistance regarding a remote host issue please.

We have a remote host away from the office that is supposed
to be monitored by our Nagios system.

We can ping the server from the Nagios server and Nagios
shows the server as being up.

Even though the Windows agent is installed and confirmed as
working, the services keeps displaying 'Critical - Socket timeout after
10 seconds'

Does anybody know why these does not want to connect /. Work
properly?

Machiel

Re: [Nagios-users] remote host up but can not see services

2008-04-10 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi

I have just confirmed, and there is no firewall running on the machine.

We are trying to simply monitor the pop3 and SMTP service that it is
running as this is a mail server.

is there a firewall running on the windows machine? What kind of services do
you want to monitor? Are the services running? Do the services need some
special authentification (SNMP?)?

[Nagios-users] Total cpu usage

2008-05-08 Thread Machiel Richards
HI All

I hope that someone can please assist me with either a
script or a plugin.

I am looking to monitor the total percentage of CPU usage on
a linux server using Nagios.

I was hoping to write my own script but as this is quite
urgent being a production system I need to get this in a.s.a.p

We are currently monitoring the load averages but they have
the requirement to be notified once the cpu's are used at more than 80%
capacity as this suggests a problem on the relevant servers.

Does anybody know about a plugin or script that I can use in
order to get this put in place?

We are running SLES 9 Service pack 3 if this makes a
difference to the commands etc...

Regards

Machiel

[Nagios-users] sms notifications for only specific services

2008-06-25 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi All

I hope you can assist.

We have an exhange server which we monitor using
the normal nagios monitoring.

We are however trying to set up sms
notifications for specific services on this mail server.

I have created the sms notifications in the
contacts and contact group, however I am trying to find out how I can
assign this to only specific services while thewy also get mails for
these services.

[Nagios-users] Monitoring telnet connections

2008-11-01 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi Eveyone

I hope someone can help me out here...

I have written quite a couple of monitoring scripts for nagios
but I now have a challenging one which I am not sure how to approach.

We have two servers , one running linux and one running
windows, on which we need to monitor telnet connectivity to a specific port.

This obviously need to be run from the nagios server itself for
a couple of reasons

I am trying to find out how this can be achieved.

Re: [Nagios-users] FW: Warning examples

2008-11-25 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi all

Thank you very much

I only saw 5 minutes after I sent the mail that there is a similar post
by someone else.

We are using the nsclient for other checks at the moment so will just
configure appropriately in order to handle the event logs as well.

[Nagios-users] Nagios Notifications incorrectly scheduled

2008-11-26 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi All

Our Nagios systems are set up to check services every X amount
of minutes and to only notify every 120minutes.

However, something went wrong on one of our servers during the
course of the evening and Nagios started sending notification every minute from
20h00 last night until 09h00 this morning (needless to say thousands of mails
and sms's received).

Can anybody tell me how the notifications work as clearly the
settings does not work at all.

Machiel

2008-11-27 Thread Machiel Richards
Hi Marc

I have gone through this and I can't seem to find anything wrong.

I have checked each service and they were set up to check every 5
minutes, retry every 2 minutes and notify intervals 120minutes.

There's a page dedicated to notifications in the documentation. You'll
also want to review your service definition to ensure it's set to do
what you want.
