Nagios can not produce any graph AFAIK. You have either use MRTG or
ganglia to graph the system resources.

[Nagios-users] How to graph historical data

Dear All,

I would like to know if it’s possible to graph the historical data that
Nagios produces – I am about to rebuild an old Linux box that has nagios
installed on it, but I would like to at least see some trends what
actually has been going on. I’m in the rare position where nothing on my
network has so much as farted in the last few months, so I’d like to see
those trends which we don’t notice through everyday usage.

Kind Regards,
Mr Gabriel

[Nagios-users] Generate and export reports in CSV, PDF format?

2009-07-01 Thread N Patil
Hello everyone,

I have nagios implemented inhouse which monitors most of the unix, windows
servers as well as routers and switches.
Is there any way that I can generate/convert reports into CSV, PDF, DOC or
such formats ?
Can I generate reports for CPU Utilization, Memory Utilization, Disk
Utilization, Ping Availability etc.

What about NXE (Nagios XML Engine)?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,
IT head is more interested in CSV format results so they can keep track of
utilizations of resources. I also have MRTG configured.
Do you know any plugins, addon which can be helpful in getting these
results?

I don't know if this will help you at all, but I've always used MRTG or
Cacti for history and graphing rather than Nagios add-ons. Newer
versions of Cacti can export graph data into CSV files.

Re: [Nagios-users] Error while configuring NRPE on solaris

Hi, came across this just now while browsing my NAGIOS mail folder.

From my notes on installing NAGIOS on Solaris 10:
If getting SSL handshake error from nrpe, it may be that you don’t have
the SUN Solaris crypto packages SUNWcrman, SUNWcryr and SUNWcry installed.
Install them in the order: SUNWcrman, SUNWcryr, and SUNWcry

Note: they are in the Solaris_10/Product subdirectory of the Solaris 10
DVD
# pkgadd -d . SUNWcrman SUNWcry SUNWcryr

For the other error with the “svc:/network/nrpe/tcp“, I would suggest you
delete the SMF profile for NRPE and recreate it following the instructions
by Stephan Windmueller at
http://ls5-www.cs.uni-dortmund.de/~windmueller/nagios-solaris10.html. You
don’t need the whole thing, just the “Integrating Nagios into SMF”
section. Look out for the paths and modify to match your install.

The server has always been Solaris (sparc or x86), use inetd/xinetd/deamon

again zero error

The one 'problem' i have seen people complain about is ssl and nrpe, read
the manual and it should pretty
clear what todo, 99.9% is almost the use not having doing some RTFM thingy

The other one is tcp-wrapper and nrpe, nrpe has a access control buildt-in

Yes, if you installed the gd/gd-devel libraries and dependencies after
compiling nagios or if they were not found. './configure --help' will

[Nagios-users] How to monitor linux host ?

2009-05-27 Thread N Patil
I have already setup nagios which is working fine. It can monitor my
localhost and window box perfectly with default configs provided.
Can anyone help me to setup/monitor unix host? I have these things ready
with me

template.cfg,

define host{
nameredhat-server; The name of
this host template
use generic-host; This template
inherits other values from the generic-host template
check_period24x7; By default,
Linux hosts are checked round the clock
check_interval  5   ; Actively check
the host every 5 minutes
retry_interval  1   ; Schedule host
check retries at 1 minute intervals
max_check_attempts  10  ; Check each Linux
host 10 times (max)
check_command   check-host-alive ; Default command
to check Linux hosts
notification_period workhours   ; Linux admins
hate to be woken up, so we only notify during the day
; Note that the
notification_period variable is being overridden from
; the value that
is inherited from the generic-host template!
notification_interval   120 ; Resend
notifications every 2 hours
notification_optionsd,u,r   ; Only send
notifications for specific host states
contact_groups  admins  ; Notifications
get sent to the admins by default
register0   ; DONT REGISTER
THIS DEFINITION - ITS NOT A REAL HOST, JUST A TEMPLATE!
}

redhat5.cfg,
define host{
use redhat-server
host_name   redhat5.remotehost.com
alias   Redhat5 Remote Host
address 172.17.38.201
contact_groups  admins
}

# HOST GROUP DEFINITION
# Define an optional hostgroup for Linux machines

define hostgroup{
hostgroup_name redhat-servers ; The name of the hostgroup
alias Linux Servers ; Long name of the group
members redhat5.remotehost.com; Comma separated list
of hosts that belong to this group
}

define service{
use generic-service
service_description Root Partition
   contact_groups  admins
check_command   check_nrpe!check_disk
}

define service{
use generic-service ; Name of
service template to use
host_name   redhat5.remotehost.com
service_description Current Users
check_command   check_nrpe!check_users!20!50
}

Thanks,
Nilesh

Hello,

I have installed nagios on solaris 10. By default the local host is
monitored and everything works fine. But when I try to access the Trends,
statusmap,alert histogram from the web interface I am having the below
error. I checked all the permissions and every thing looks fine.

[..]

[Wed May 27 18:00:49 2009] [error] [client 10.187.152.223] ld.so.1:
histogram.cgi: fatal: libfreetype.so.6: open failed: No such file or

If you're using a package system, you're missing a library to be
installed. A quick google for libfreetype.so.6 hints that you might
need SUNWfreetype2.
