Sure. If there was some way to configure Nagios so that certain command

So give _address6 official status *in the ui*. Or make a config
item that lets users specify which custom variables to show in the
UI. Or show all of them by default. That's a change that actually
makes sense, would have been far less intrusive and would have made
very nearly everyone happy (especially the configure which you
want to see, with a general switch to show all and then
include/exclude parameters to filter passwords and whatnot out of
the UI). Wasn't that the real reason behind the patches in the
first place? That's at least the only real unique benefit from this
  over using custom vars.

The problem here is actually laziness and possibly poor
maintenance. When presented with the patch, you need to ask the
submitter; What purpose does this patch serve and why is it so
generally important that we have to break the ABI? Given some
prodding, you would have found out that the user really just wants
to see a special custom variable in the web-interface. Achieving
that is basically peanuts, given half a day and a junior coder
fresh out of kindergarten, so it's quite likely the submitter could
have been persuaded to rewrite the patch like that so it would have
been easy to maintain it. It would also have made it acceptable in
the Nagios core and would have made life easier for those broker
module authors that actually care about supporting Icinga and for
the users that use modules with it.

That turned a bit harsh there. Sorry about that.

conclusion - you won't accept such patches,

I won't accept patches that break things when there are easier ways
to achieve what the user desires that doesn't break things.

i can live with the extra
work they will cause. even with addons staying compatible with icinga
but not supprting the address6 field. everything else still remains
compatible and tested. but that's not the point within nagios related
stuff. there are other nagios patches pending, still breaking the abi
(see some of opsviews patches and those from nagios-devel) which will
make a change happen somewhere in the future. so maybe after a while
users demand (even those from your customers), and it will hit nagios
too. until then, let's just ask people out there what they really
want and how *they* would achieve that. either live with it, patch it
  or even pay for it.

Yup. That's what major releases are for. I guess I'm just a bit whiny
because I'd hoped Icinga would stay compatible with Nagios in all
possible ways as was promised from the beginning.

Ah well. We live and we learn. Now it's time for me to learn how much
wine I can drink on a friday night without passing out. I'm looking

 Hi,

In fact no. Like Andreas said, Nagios do not even understand what an
IP is. It's just a string for it to be pass to plugins as a macro

Re: [Nagios-users] [Nagios-devel] Q: Service Escalation Recovery Notifications.

2011-05-26 Thread Patrik Båt
Are you sure about that?

The documentation says:
If, after three problem notifications, a recovery notification is sent
out for the service, who gets notified? The recovery is actually the
fourth notification that gets sent out. However, the escalation code is
smart enough to realize that only those people who were notified about
the problem on the third notification should be notified about the
recovery. In this case, the nt-admins and managers contact groups would
be notified of the recovery.

2011-04-26 Thread Patrik Båt
Hello!

OpenNMS has a rearmed value, if you set this lower than the alarm value,
you will get something nice out of it. but the question is, can Nagios
have a WARNING value and a OK value ?

Best Regards Patrik

Hello, NSClient 2.0.

Just try updating to nsclient++ version 3.8

http://files.nsclient.org/x-0.3.x/NSClient%2B%2B-0.3.8-x64.msi

It has alot of features.

I am running Nagios 3.1.2 with OpMon, formally NSClient, agent 2.0
 installed on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit system. I have several

counters that are being monitored on the client including CPU Load,
Disk Usage, Memory Usage, Server Uptime, and Paging File Usage.

All counters except Paging File Usage appear to be running without
 issue.

The error message that I am seeing with Paging File Usage is the
 following:

NSClient - ERROR INVALID COUNTER - PagingFile(_Total)% Usage - ERROR
 CODE: 0xCBB8 -

I have a Windows 2003 R2 64-bit server that is being monitored with
the same counters, and the Paging File Usage counter does not

return an error. The syntax for the command in question, taken from
the commands.cfg file, is shown below:

 # 'check_nt_pagingfile' command
 define command{
 command_namecheck_nt_pagingfile
 command_line$USER1$/check_nt -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -p 5667 -v
 COUNTER -l \\PagingFile(_Total)\\% Usage,Paging Fileusage is %.2f%
 % -w $ARG1$ -c $ARG2$

 }

Does anyone know what change(s) are needed to the above command,
assuming it can still be used, in order for it to accurately

keep track of the paging file in the Windows 2008 server?

 Thanks.

Try using a separate escalation for the recovery events. The recovery event
is the last numbered event so it's hard to catch without a specific
 escalation. Example:

 define serviceescalation {
   host_name *
   service_description *
   first_notification 1
   last_notification 0
   notification_interval 0
   contacts sysadmin.reports,oncall
   escalation_options r
 }

 define hostescalation {
   host_name *
   first_notification 1
   last_notification 0
   notification_interval 0
   contacts sysadmin.reports,oncall
   escalation_options r
 }

seconds

Hi,
I am using check_procs for crond processes monitoring via NRPE.
The plugin has been reporting Plugin timed out after 10 senconds many times.
Sometimes OK, Sometimes above.

The target system resource: no high load
The crond process: working normally
Checking ps command manually: showing crond process normally
Other monitoring: CPU, MEM, DISK works well
Other machines using same plugin: no problem
Error log: I could not find any error log

The target machine
OS: RHEL3 x86
Kernel: 2.4.21-20.ELsmp
Nrpe: 1.2.5
Plugin: check_procs v1758 (nagios-plugins 1.4.11)
nrpe.cfg: check_procs -c 1:10 -a crond
normal check interval: 5min
max retry attempt: 3
retry check interval: 5min

I would like to know what is the root cause and the solution for this situation.

Regards.
Kaz

Escalations don't overwrite the standard notification behavior. My bet is that
you 1) have your contact included in a contact_group that's in a template used
by all hosts or 2) that your email address is in another contact definition as
well.
