Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios 3.0 EPN problems....

2007-07-02 Thread Peter Krüpl
Hi,

Sorry for the late response. I used Nagios 3.0a5, on FreeBSD 6.2-Release.

I noticed the p1.pl, included in the distribution was for nagios 2.0,
the comments
within p1.pl state this.

I have downgraded for now, as i use perl check plugins quite much. EPN is
truly amazing in regards to system load.

Kind Regars,
Peter Krüpl.

Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios 3.0 EPN problems....

2007-06-27 Thread Peter Krüpl
Hi Again,

I forgot to write how the output get's messed up...

The output gets garbled like the following: "&#-64;&#-66;:67 Peer is Up."
instead of :"AS9167 Peer is Up."

This happens when i have "use_embedded_perl_implicitly=1" configured
When i have "use_embedded_perl_implicitly=0" configured and
include "# nagios: +epn" in my plugins the output is ok.

Since i have no clue whetever EPN is used as i do not get any EPN debug
logs,
i can not tell if it works.

[Nagios-users] Nagios 3.0 EPN problems....

2007-06-27 Thread Peter Krüpl
Hi Group,

I am currently trying to get EPN up and running for Nagios 3.0a5.
So far i works partially... but i have some problems.

1. Plugin output gets garbled eg:
2. No log output from p1.pl is generated...

Has anyone expeirienced similar issues, or am i he only one ?

Kind Regards,
Peter Krüpl

Re: [Nagios-users] submitting external commands remotely

2006-08-23 Thread Peter Krüpl

Hi,

I doubt you can use sockets over NFS, someone correct me if i am wrong.
What you could do is to execute the script on the nagios host, via ssh.

If you normaly do this on the nagios host: scheduledowntine.sh host ServerA
13:00 14:00

You could do this on a remote machine: ssh nagioshost "scheduledowntine.sh
host ServerA 13:00 14:00"

You would be prompted for a password every time you do this, but you
could use rsa/dsa keys, then there would be no need to enter a password
each time.

    Safe and simple :)

    Cheers,
    Peter

I now need to be able to submit external commands from an external host.
In a nutshell I want to schedule downtime of specific services based on recurring
tasks that are run on those remote machines.  I've written a script that
will schedule service downtime and it works fine when I run it on the nagios
server.  I tried exporting the nagios/var directory via NFS and mounted it
from one of the remote machines so that they could write to nagios.cmd.
But when I run the script on these remote machines Nagios never responds
to those external commands.  The script appears to successfully write to
the NFS mounted nagios.cmd but Nagios never gets the message, and it never
shows up in nagios.log.

Is it possible for a remote machine to communicate with Nagios this way (NFS
mounted nagios.cmd), or is there a better approach for submitting external
commands from an external host?

[Nagios-users] Using tcp load balancing proxy & NRPE for load distribution

2006-01-16 Thread Peter Krüpl

Hello Group,

As i have read a lot on this list and had some good use of it, i
figured maybe it would

be about time to give something back to the list.

I am in charge or running some nagios machines at work, as i make
heavy use of perl
and have many services to watch, i came up with a little idea for an
easy distrubution of the

   monitoring load.

I simply execute all service checks via nrpe, nrpe contacts a small
tcp loadbalancing proxy called balance.
Balance then simply distributes the nrpe connections i a round robin
manner between several hosts,

that run the actual servicecheck plugin vire the nrpe server.

The only distributed configuration i need is the actual nrpe
configuration on the checkhosts, the
check_nrpe2 plugin on the main nagios server is very lightweight and
i presently monitor about 1200
services (300 sec poll cycle), and even send back performance data
via nrpe.

Should one of the check execution hosts fail, no problem balance
takes care of it and redirects the
nrpe connection to a hosts that is alive, is all check hosts fail,
as a last resort one could also run nrpe

on the actual nagios host as a last resort.

I hope this can be of use for some of you..

   -Peter Krüpl
