[Nagios-users] Old state information randomly appearing

2007-11-13 Thread Shawn Kovalchick
I have 2 hosts and 4 services that I added Friday to my nagios
configuration. They were misconfigured (wrong IP addresses), and rightly
sent out notifications. I disabled notifications and active checks via the
web interface while I was diagnosing the problem. I fixed the problems (the
IP addresses) and reenabled the checks and notifications. Now, every once
in a while (roughly once per minute), the old data appears on the tac.cgi,
status.cgi, and extinfo.cgi pages. They will show as down/critical, and
will have the icons for disabled notifications and disabled active checks.
Then, moments later, they will show normal (OK state, with no icons for
disabled notifications/checks). I have tried purging the bad data from the
log files, retention.dat, etc. while the Nagios daemon was stopped, but the
bad data still shows. Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to
flush this old data?

Re: [Nagios-users] Old state information randomly appearing

2007-11-13 Thread Shawn Kovalchick
Actually, the timing is a bit different than what I described below.
Refreshing once per second, I was able to determining that the correct state
shows for 5 seconds, then the incorrect state shows for 10 seconds, then the
process repeats.

[Nagios-users] Retaining history on upgrade

2007-02-26 Thread Shawn Kovalchick

I am currently running version 1.2 of Nagios, and I am setting up a new
server as a replacement. I will be putting the most recent version on the
new server (2.7). Is it possible to transfer the log directory contents to
the new server and use them with version 2.7?

[Nagios-users] Template inheritance questions

2006-07-13 Thread Shawn Kovalchick
I have a couple of questions about inheritance:1. Is it possible to inhetit from more than one template?define service{ ... use ping-service-template use dev-group}

2. is it possible to append to, rather than override, a parameter? For example, is there a way to make the example below result in contact_groups equalling db-admins and server-admins?define host{ contact_groups db-admins
 name db-host-template register 0}define host{ ... contact_groups server-admins use db-host-template}Thanks for your help.Shawn K.

[Nagios-users] Host template and inherited settings

2006-05-17 Thread Shawn Kovalchick
I have a host template that assigns the host to a particular hostgroup. i.e.define host{ nameexample-host-template hostgroups example-servers
 usehost-template register   0}but I want to assign additional hostgroups to some servers, i.e.define host{
 host_name webhost
 hostgroups web-servers
 useexample-host-template ...}
want this host to be a member of example-servers and web-servers. Is this possible to do using templates?

Re: [Nagios-users] Re: nsclient++ configuration, i am lost

2006-04-24 Thread Shawn Kovalchick
If you define it in the NSC.ini file, then you don't need to pass the arguements from check_nrpe.Using the handler set in the the NSC.ini file, try this:From the client machine:
nsclient++ /testcheck_exchangeDB
From the Nagios Server:../libexec/check_nrpe -H catorsv03 -c check_exchangeDBAlso, about the bind error you are getting: Are you getting that when you run test? If so, that just means that nsclient is already running, and the test instance can't connect to the same port. It is OK unless you get that when you run nsclient /start.

File=d:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.stm File=d:\ProgramFiles\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.edbbut the command is launched this way :../libexec/check_nrpe -H catorsv03 -c check_exchangeDB -a MaxWarn=15G
MaxCrit=16G File='d:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.stm'File='d:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.edb'So i have to define it (the command check_exchangeDB)in the nrpe.cfgfile in order to work? Or do nsclient++ uses nrpe automatically...

What error message are you getting?Have you tried the check from the command line on the host?run nsclient++ /test and try a few commandsHave you tried the check from the command line on the Nagios server?
run the check_nrpe line replacing all the arguements with their actual valuesIn the NSC.ini file, have you:uncommented the appropriate modules?set the allowed hosts line?Allowed arguements?restart the nsclient++ process after making these changes

Re: [Nagios-users] Not able ot view hosts/services in the Trends.cgi link

2006-04-11 Thread Shawn Kovalchick
I was just recently having a very similar problem. When I loaded the statusmap, I was getting an internal server error. Examining the Apache logs showed that the cgi was trying to access an image library that wasn't there (I had upgraded from RHEL3 to RHEL4). Most everything else was ok. I upgraded to a newer version of Nagios (
2.0 to 2.2) in an RPM that was compiled for RHEL4 (Thanks, DAG.) and everything works fine now.On 4/11/06, Marc Powell
