When you run this command from the command line it is using the environmental variables setup in your .profile or .login I am not familiar with the check_oracle but you will need to set the environmental variables for the ID running the query. I do not have a script that will log in to the application. I run scripts that get status's from $COMMON_TOP/admin/scripts/$CONTEXT_NAME. I also monitor long running concurrent manager jobs through SQL. What are you trying to monitor I can probably give you a script to do it. It sounds like another process is using the port. try looking for the port in /etc/services. or execute netstat -na and see if its in use. The ID and group you start the Nagios process with must have full permissions on the file that needs executed as well as the directory. ON some AIX machines I setup for a client of mine I used check_by_ssh from the NAgios machine to run the check_proc plugin on the AIX machine. Hope thats a direction for you. I use NSClient , look at the doc for it you can check the service using check_nt command. you can also write a plugin that will simply log into the instance and select * from v$instance or any other table you want it to.
