[Nagios-users] CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon.

2009-10-26 Thread akp geek
Hi -

I have installed the NRPE and when trying to run the check_nrpe
-H xx.xx.xxx.xxx from the server where nagios is running , I am getting the
following error

CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon.Check the remote server logs for
error messages.

Server1 : I set up NRPE and I have added /etc/services nrpe entry . , I have
enabled the service.

I have NRPE set up on an other server and it is running fine. I did follow
the same instructions. Not able to figure out what's wrong with
configuration

Re: [Nagios-users] CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon.

2009-10-26 Thread Mathew Walker

No firewall rules in play? eg. allowing connections from your Nagios server to
tcp-5666 and allowing the remove server to connect back to your nagios server?

Did you edit the nrpe.cfg file correctly and add the server to allowed_hosts?
Did you remember to restart NRPE after editing the config?

did you try actually issuing a check like check_nrpe -H xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -c
check_users ?

Hello,

I found a nice doc about your issue.

Latest rhel 5.4 on which I add nrpe installed, I couldn't get xinetd to
get it working and I could fix it thanks to these doc:

Hope this helps,

[Nagios-users] CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon Error Message

2006-12-18 Thread Kaplan, Andrew H.
I am attempting to monitor a remote HP-UX 11.11 client but I am confronted
with the following error message:

CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon. Check the remote server logs for
error messages.

I checked the HP-UX 11.11 box and the syslog.log file had the following
entry:

Host 0.0.0.0 is not allowed to talk to us!

I checked the nrpe.cfg file on the remote host, and under SERVER ADDRESS, I have
nrpe
bound to client's ip address. Under ALLOWED HOSTS, I have several addresses,
including
the Nagios 2.6 server, that are permitted to talk to NRPE on the client.

When I compiled the NRPE client on the remote host, I compiled it with the
following
options:

--disable-ssl --with-nrpe-user=root --with-nrpe-group=root

I needed to disable the ssl option in order for nrpe to compile. After NRPE was
compiled
it was copied it to the appropriate directory and I was able to execute it. What
step(s)
do I need to take to correct this? Thanks.

Re: [Nagios-users] CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon. Check the remote server logs for error messages

2006-08-30 Thread Andy Shellam
By default on NRPE you are not allowed to use commandline arguments,
that is - passing something like check_nrpe -H debianserver -p 5666 -c
check_ping!$HOSTADDRESS$, and having in your nrpe.cfg
command[check_ping]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_ping -H $ARG1$.

This is dangerous in that a client connecting to the daemon could
execute an aribitrary command against check_ping (consider this: a
hacker sends 127.0.0.1 rm -rf / as an argument to check_ping, and
your system will execute /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_ping -H
127.0.0.1 rm -f /)

Therefore command arguments are disabled in NRPE by default, so you
would have to hard-code your checks on the local machine. (e.g.
command[check_ping]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_ping -H localhost),
and simply use check_nrpe -H debianserver -p 5666 -c check_ping.

If you are aware of the danger, have applied appropriate connection
limitations (i.e. firewalling, changing nrpe port, only allowing certain
IPs to connect) and want to use command arguments, then you have to add
an extra command to the ./configure line of the NRPE on the client and
enable a command argument setting in nrpe.cfg. You'll have to read
nrpe.cfg for the details as I cannot remember off-hand what they are.

Andy.
