Maybe i am replying too late You can find perl scripts that forward your mails to specific smtp server (the mta you have already have!). So you just replace the command in nagios - nothing more ;) Wednesday, April 12, 2006, 5:03:58 PM, you wrote: > [EMAIL PROTECTED] schrieb am 12.04.2006 15:43:26: >> Because the Security Policy. >> We cannot have two MTA in the same network. >> >> There is another problem using the MTA with Nagios. Re: [Nagios-users] E-mail Message
Can anyone help me about configure the Nagios to send e-mail message using other SMTP server instead the SMTP server installed in the same server of the Nagios ? We cannot install two SMTP server on the same network, so I need configure the Nagios to use my main SMTP server. Thank you. Hugo Nagios can't help; use "ssmpt": ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/ssmtp/ its a "must-be" in any server (that dosen't user its owns smtp) Best Regards -- Alejandro Alfonso Fernández Dpto de Sistemas. That's insanity. Use Postfix as your MTA. You can set it up to not run smtpd so it will not appear as an smtp server on the network. You can configure to also relay all mail thru your Main smtp server. The installation configuration and setup is very easy, much easier than sendmail. Postfix is probably easier, but for those used to sendmail, the default sendmail config in most linux distros is to listen on localhost only, so this won't violate your security policy. Setting up forwarding is pretty simple too. Just change the 'smarthost' line in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc. If you don't have that file, then 'yum install sendmail-cf'. Add an alias to root on your mail hub for user nagios and you should be okay with your pager service. I suggest you first accumulate some knowledge about *nix architectures like Linux and MTAs (aka Mail Transfer Agents). There needs to be some mechanism to supply mails from a host to the smtp-server. On Unix architectures this is done by the MTA, which is usually sendmail. But then, it is not necessary to have the sendmail daemon process running and listening on the the smtp port, you can just have it run locally and forward locally submitted mails to your main smtp server. What you want to do is read the sendmail manual and learn how to configure your local MTA correctly. But what you are directly asking for is not possible. Neither Nagios, nor any other unix service implements its own smtp engine - this would be quite stupid and a big waste of ressources since EVERY *nix/Linux machine has at least a local MTA - or is majorly misconfigured. SMTP-Server != MTA And you should re-evaluate people in your security department who say "more then 1 SMTP server is a security risk". RE: [Nagios-users] E-mail Message
Why no more than one SMTP server on network? Most easy is to install and configure sendmail on the server where Nagios runs. Technically this would be another SMTP server but you would simply use it to forward mail to your main SMTP server. There is lots of information on the Internet about how to configure sendmail to simply forward all e-mail to another SMTP server. Also I suggest you read the Nagios FAQ http://www.nagios.org/faqs/viewfaq.php?faq_id=150&expand=false&showdesc= false which pretty much says it all on this subject.
